I added a FAQ to the first post! Please check it out if you have any questions. Let me know if you think anything is missing. Feel free to refer people to the FAQ if they ask questions that are in it, and I haven't seen the post yet.
The FAQ was largely written by SinisterBrain. I don't know whether he has migrated his account to the new forum yet. If you read this, thank you very much!
Yay the FAQ! Ya I migrated over and even posted earlier in the thread about the faq.
Now lets hope people read it.
You should make an FAQ at the first post, so people don't ask the same questions again. and add new answers progressively.
I have actually have compiled one and sent it over to Captain_chaos. I didn't post it myself because I didn't want to step on his toes, it being his program and all. I imagine he hasn't had the time to go over it or something or he's generally unhappy with it overall and is to polite to say so. :smile.gif:
I finally got around to trying the new updated installer you made. Even though I got the older installer working via commandline I felt I needed to try the new version, mainly because it was personal. XD
Anyhow, I'm happy to report, at least for me. The new installer works like a champ.
Thanks for your hard work and bug squashing. Great mod. Now just need to get people to make Menubars for it!
I was getting those same errors as the people before on Win7 x64, so I decided to put both the Minecraft.jar (the launcher, not the game!) and the Installer at the root of C:\ and it said access denied and I was able to get the menuinstall folder whereas I couldn't before when I ran it on my Desktop, so it needs to be run as Administrator to fix it. Should be simple enough to make a .bat to start the installer and run it as Administrator. Will report to see if it works later.
Also, the problem might be that you need a . in front of the directory where it looks for the menuinstall folder so it looks in the current directory, because it currently has a \ without a dot which probably puts it at C:\ .'
EDIT: It's still saying access denied even if it's run as administrator. Even if I run it from command line started as administrator.
I just tried it by running Command prompt as admin and the program ran and installed perfectly.
Start| type in cmd | Right-click | Select Run as Administrator
CD to where you have the Installer java -jar MenuBarInstaller.jar
lol can't believe I didn't try that before. :sad.gif:
Here you go. Just as a note. Today I've completely ripped java out and reinstalled it from scratch. Same error.
You're feelings about Windows are my identical feelings about java. lol If it wasn't for my mild Minecraft addiction I would avoid it like the plague.
The complete error....
Initializing...
Checking for update...
No update found
Downloading launcher...
Setting up temporary directories...
Decompressing launcher...

I'd like to first thank you for taking the time to explain in detail what you tried to do, and for posting a screenshot of the error. It is really useful, and really means a lot to me :smile.gif:
I will investigate further when I get home, and it is strange that you are getting that error, because it appears that you are doing nothing wrong whatsoever. There have been people on Windows that have installed it as you have tried and it has worked. I'm feeling like the JVM on different Windows versions act differently, and that is what is causing this.
After you get the error and close the installer, there should be a "menuinstall" folder left in the same directory as the installer. Is there a META-INF/MANIFEST.MF folder/file in there?
Also, what version of Windows are you running, and is it 32- or 64-bit?
Thanks again :smile.gif:
Hi, Thanks for the reply and I apologize if the post (I reread it this afternoon) came off testy. I was very very tired when I wrote it. And of course I forget to put the important stuff like OS and Java version! LOL
Windows 7 x64
Java 1.6.0_24
In the directory I install it too (I did it again just before this post) there is only the Minecraft.jar file that the downloader makes/Downloads. Ignore the minecraft.exe in that folder. I used that last night trying to figure out the problem. I see no menuinstall folder anywhere sadly.
Inside that minecraft.jar that the installer creates is this....
There is a manifest.mf inside the META-INF folder though.
Hope that is helpful.
Love the idea of this mod but I have to say. I've never been so frustrated installing a mod in my life.
Read the directions at least a dozen times, watched the video (the low framerate of the capture screws with my eye. :sad.gif: ) a couple times.
So I've tryed installing it to just about everywhere (desktop, minecraft folder, a fake minecraft folder, a flash drive, my removable drive, a networked drive, that was where I gave up.) I can and no matter what I do, I get this error (Pictured below).
I guess I might be doing something completely wrong somewhere (I wouldn't be surprised...) but I don't think so.
Please advise, I was excited to try the Worldedit menus (I HATE typing out commands).
Just to clarify, I'm not trying to modify the Minecraft.jar in the minecraft/bin folder. I understand we're working with the launcher here. I've downloaded the exe myself, let the program download the jar itself. I've opened up the jar file and the file it's looking for is there. I'm not shat it's problem is but something is screwy somewhere.
Not sure how realistic this suggestion is but here goes.
The ability to lay a grid reference over the map and the ability to have the square brush snap to the grid.
Perhaps even having a modifier key to lock the cursor temporarily while you raise or lower the terrain.
I'm finding that my mouse will move slightly when I'm trying to make something like a tall and trying to keep it straight. The slightest movement makes it screwy ingame.
I'm sure someone has posted this already but damned if I could find it with the search (such as it is).
Is there a way to do large scale map editing inside MC? For instance, making huge sections of walls? If not can this kind of mod even be made?
Yes I know you can build them. :tongue.gif:
I'm making an adventure map for me and my friends and it's becoming tedious making long roads and walls. I'd like to get the map done before I'm senile. :biggrin.gif:
I know there's some outside Minecraft, like MCEdit (Which is quite possibly the least intuitive program ever made) if I'm thinking of the right one. Just went through a dozen pages of the mods section looking with no luck. Thought I'd ask here. I hope this is the right section for it.

Hope that's remotely helpful.

Both those things are already in. The Hover seems to take a couple seconds to show though.

Just a thought.

Using the Single players commands mod you can use the plugin WorldEdit (integrated into SPC now) and WorldEditGUI to do what i was asking.

Use your mouse wheel to change the size of the brush. :biggrin.gif:
