posted a message on The City Construction Challenge

It has been FOREVER since I last worked on this, but I'm finally ready to start on Stage 4!

A quick screenshot to show where I left off on Stage 2:

I can't even take a screenshot from that same location any more. I tore down that tower. What I CAN Do is climb up on a giant tower of dirt in roughly the same location and take screenshots of the city since:

To the North North East, viewing roughly the same area from the Stage 2 screenshot above. (Farming District)
    Noteworthy locations:
    - The graveyard, which has a tombstone (and buried coffin with rotten flesh and bone!) for every time I've died through all stages of this challenge. (Please don't count them)
    - "North Garrison" which serves as the north guard tower.
    - The last remaining old guard tower (near the grave yard) which is now a shrine of sorts.
    - The school, which is the large building near the orange stuff (playground equipment)
    - Ice-skating rink (Part of the Market District)

To the West, viewing the same Mining District and the Tree Farm.

To the South, Viewing where the cloud district (?) will go. In the distance, pass the wall, you can make out a skellie grinder that I built up after discovering the skellie spawner while mining.

To the South East, viewing the market district. There's an ice-skating rink, and off in the corner, there's a set of stairs that leads down into Sebastion's "Under The Sea" restaurant. The large building next to the stalls is the licensing office!

    The classroom of the schoolhouse

The ceiling of the main dining hall of Sebastion's "Under The Sea" restaurant.

    Totenstadt's Flag!

    NECROMANTIC POWERS, ACTIVATE

I, too, am wondering how to use /setblock from the console for world other than the overworld. I don't have the exact same problem as the OP, but I figure as long as I'm seeking a solution, I might as well give his/her thread a bump.

That vid shows more like an item sorter i Think thats not what im looking for im not sure

Well, I meant that as more of a starting point. I know you can rig it up (pretty easily, actually) to send out a pulse when the filtered item successfully passes through.

I can't recall off the top of my head, but there *is* a way to have a "hopper filter" (hint, search for that) that will only accept certain items.

Very cool. Could also be used to flag/catch potential griefers on servers.

Ouch. no, you made your point pretty clear, actually. tried to search for this before I posted it. I guess my search terms weren't as flexible as I thought.

Oh well. What's done is done.

    EDIT:

It is an interesting idea, but I don't think that nether stars would be the best material for this.

I had chosen the nether star for three reasons: (1) To mitigate the "OPness" with a suitably hard to gather material. (2) Because it's actually meant to (partially) replace the Wither in some automation builds I'd seen. (3) For fluff reasons.

posted a message on Remove unedited chunks
I was wondering if there was a utility, stand alone or add-on, that could be be run which would detect unedited chunks (IE chunks that were generated but never touched by the player) and delete them.

Anyone know of something like that?

withers are so hard to get and kill though....

this seems like it would remove the purposes of picks.

Hmm. Well, I killed a Wither recently. It didn't seem THAT hard (and I play on hard mode) but I had backup from one of the other players on my server. I haven't tried it solo, yet. I suppose I'll have to make that a goal. So I can get a realistic sense of it.

Picks are for mobile mining. The block breaker would pretty much be specifically for in-place automation, as the current Wither-powered builds I mention are. It's kind of a niche purpose, but then again, so are beacons.

posted a message on Nether Star Powered Block Breaker
TLDR: I'd like to see a block - likely utilizing a nether star in it's recipe - that, when powered by a red stone pulse, breaks the block in front of it like a player with an appropriate tool. This either drops the block as an item, or sucks the block up into an internal inventory.

I've been wandering around the forums and Youtube, admiring the clever things people do for automation. Some of these designs utilize Withers to break blocks. Personally, I think this is very neat, and it reminds me of a block I once saw on a Tekkit server. This block, when given a red stone pulse, would break the block in front of it just as a player with the appropriate tool could. It would then put the dropped item into a pipe network to be shipped off somewhere.

So I got to thinking: Since people are using Withers to break blocks, why not have the nether stars they drop be used in a "block breaker" recipe? My original thought was a recipe similar to the piston, except replacing the wood planks with picks, and the red stone dust with a nether star, but I'd be happy just to see a block breaker in Vanilla.

    Thoughts?

EDIT: If you like this idea, please up-vote this post.

I've been on hiatus from Minecraft for a few months. I'm getting back into it, and I believe I left off about half-way through Stage 3. I probably would have been done by now, but I got carried away with building the outer wall (It's all fancy!) and landscaping. (Read: reforming mountains).

I'm back to work, now, when I have free time! I've got houses to build for the Market District, Public Structures to build for the mining District, and the Outer Wall to finish (Roughly 5/8 done, and I'm stuck on deciding how I want the city gates to look).

posted a message on Keeping A Chunk Loaded in Vanilla
Greetings, forum! I've heard there was a way to keep a chunk loaded* in Vanilla Minecraft using the properties of hoppers, or some such. Does anyone know if this is true, and if so, how to do it?

If not with hoppers, is there any way? If so, how?

*Obviously, the game has to keep running for any chunks to be loaded.
