posted a message on The Civilized Update: Better villages, better AI, and plenty of new blocks, structures, and items!
    Quote from steam66»

Responses in bold. I appreciate the constructive criticism, though I have to say "I don't like it, so it shouldn't be in game" doesn't really count.

See, and this is why regular quoting is preferred.

Anyway, I kinda gave up  You claim that I'm wrong when I say something isn't currently possible, only to add that it could be made possible. So how exactly was I wrong there? :D

And why would it be always wrong to state that some things are best added as mods or extensions? If Mojang followed that line of thinking I guess we never would have gotten customized advancements, functions and the upcoming recipes. Unless you can back up that claim with facts I can only pick that up as an opinion. And as you said yourself: opinions don't necessarily invalidate things.

See: as the previous poster also mentioned some of your suggestions would gobble up a LOT of extra resources. Having lived the dramatic 1.8 start it's something I really don't fancy of seeing happening again. So if a suggestion would actually dramatically add up to the required resources while it only caters to a smaller amount of players then yes: I think in those situations it would be a much better idea to fill those in as a mod. Because that way players get to chose themselves as to what they want or don't want to play with. But also because this will also prevent the game from becoming too resource hungry. There are already plenty of players who don't use the full maximized graphical settings because it would be too hard on their computer. Adding even more demanding things would only make that even harder.

I'm not really a fan because this isn't a simple suggestion for improvement but rather an idea to effectively change Minecraft entirely into something it's not. Right now Minecraft has a subtle mix and balance between combat and other activities but this seems to turn the whole thing into some kind of war simulator :D

There are some ideas I definitely like; such as the AI improvement for villagers. Some other things are currently impossible (distinction of player placed blocks and those naturally generated) but still interesting, but the majority of this is something I don't really care for. In my opinion most ideas are best left to be filled in through mods.

Getting a free server is easy.. For example you can go to the Spigot website and download their latest release, then grab yourself some mods and you're pretty much set.

I absolutely must contact a user of this forum, however he hasn't been on since 2015 and I'm quite sure he will never login. I don't think the rules say anything about this. I hope someone will be able to help me.

Just sent them a PM anyway. By default the forum sents out e-mail notifications so I think that's your best bet. Sent a PM and hope that it'll get relayed to them.

I find it immature of people to make fun of other people for their ideas. It is ridiculous of how many instances of people making fun of someone else idea is just bizzare. I know a person will say this is dumb but they are exposing themself.

    Perception and intent.

First of all the written language is a horrible way to express yourself because its very easy to write something down which can then be picked up in a completely different way by another person. Smileys help somewhat but many people don't even realize that they mean anymore and mostly use it for decorative purposes.

So when someone writes: "thats a dumb idea" or maybe even "thats dumb!" then that doesn't have to be meant in an insulting way. I'd usually use "I think that's not the best of ideas" but yeah, different people, different expressions and different ways of expressing themselves. Most don't even stop to think about what they're writing. Because anonymity and such.

And that's how a lot of these things start. Another person might pick up such a "dumb idea" comment as an insult while all the person was trying to say was that they thought the idea is dumb.

Of course this medal has 2 sides... Don't like negativity or criticism then maybe not post your stuff out in the open in the first place. Action = reaction.

Thing is, I've been active on this forum for quite a while now (don't let my registration date fool you) and I don't think it's all that bad. Sure, you have some kids around who act like such but meh, that's something you even see on other fora.

Generally speaking I think this forum community is quite friendly and also helpful.

posted a message on How to Install Java to Play Minecraft Java Edition 1.12.2

It's a cool tutorial but you're overlooking something very important: ever since the new launcher became a thing it is no longer required to have Java installed on your computer because Minecraft nowadays ships a copy of the Java runtime themselves. Go to your Minecraft installation folder, and there you'll see something like this: runtime\jre-x32\1.8.0_25.

Even though this is a somewhat outdated version of Java (current is 1.8.0_144 at the time of writing) it's actually recommended to use this for better performance (it's enabled by default).

Well, for those of you who really don't like the new Java edition logo there is an easy way out: install Forge and the Replay mod. If you do your screen could look like the attached screenshot :P

posted a message on Mojang is adding too much to minecraft

When you listen to all the complaints which - in my opinion - is sometimes really not much more but simple whining then, well...

... then sometimes I can't help wonder if all the negative feedback wasn't also a (huge?) factor which was taken into consideration for moving the main attention (the 'minecraft' name) away from Java and onto the console editions.

See... If I want a different skin, even a 'popular' one (say: Transformers, XMen, It, whatever is popular at the time of reading) then I go to one of the main websites and, <gasp>, I can usually download one for free.

When I get bored with Minecraft (lol!) and want something else, say a puzzle map, then I can go to a website and... well, download some. Tons of contents available. All for free.

If you're trying to do any of these on the console editions then get ready to pull out your moms credit card because it won't be freely available.

Yet despite all that I sometimes can't help wonder if the original players aren't also the ones who complain the most. Even though I think the console edition players really have reasons for it. After all: they basically need to pay for whatever they want to do.

Worse yet: one of the major new features on 1.13 is going to be more (and better!) customization. Custom recipes, custom loot tables, custom advancements.. We'll basically get our own Minecraft gaming platform. For free. And we're still complaining about it

posted a message on Why the big hype on the words "Java Edition"
    Quote from aNaturalCause»

Can someone explain to me why everyone is making such a big deal about Minecraft Java Edition. Besides the days in which Minecraft was a browser only game and before MS bought Mojang. Minecraft was a Java based game.

The issues are two fold. First and foremost Minecraft has always been a Java game, that's how this whole thing started. Therefor it has always been called "Minecraft". If you mentioned "Minecraft" you were referring to the Java edition.

Not only has Mojang renamed 'Minecraft' into 'Minecraft Java Edition' they also renamed the Pocket Edition (or mobile or whatever) into 'Minecraft'. So now if you mention 'Minecraft' they're trying to make it so that you're actually talking about the pocket/mobile/etc. edition. And that ticks plenty of people off because Minecraft has always been Java. Basically, according to some players, the original players of the game have now been moved to the sidelines and they're no longer considered official Minecraft players. Instead anyone playing the mobile editions are now considered "official" (note: not my opinion but just what I perceived around me).

The other issue has already been mentioned by others: the fear that Mojang could very well focus their attention completely onto the other platforms and discontinue support for the Java edition. I think those are valid concerns because it is a fact that Mojang / Microsoft might be able to make a whole lot more money on those "portable platforms". Where we can simply download any skin we'd like you'd have to pay for it on the console editions.

im trying to make a zombie that is fast, and has a custom follow range is this possible? here is my command that I tried to make myself but it is giving me errors such as [21:37:32] Data tag parsing failed: Unable to locate name/value separator for string: [{Name:generic.movementSpeed,Base:0.001}]

    my command: /summon Zombie ~ ~5 ~ {Attributes:[{Name:generic.followRange,Base:200}],[{Name:generic.movementSpeed,Base:0.001}]}

Yes it's easily doable. This is the reason why it's so important to know how the whole NBT formatting works. Those [] signs denote a list, and a list means that you can have multiple entries in it. What you're doing is trying to create 2 lists, while there's no reason for that:

    /summon Zombie ~ ~5 ~ {Attributes:[{Name:generic.followRange,Base:200},{Name:generic.movementSpeed,Base:0.001}]}

posted a message on Elytra should be repaired by Dragon's Breath instead of Leather (Balancing)

Have to disagree with the idea because it wouldn't balance all that much. I mean; at this point in the game you're also more likely to come across mending books which effectively allow you to keep all your gear maintained through sheer XP gathering.

    Ok: https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Logic_circuit#XNOR_Gate

In fact, if you check that wiki page you'll find a whole bunch of pre-existing logic circuits which can be used to make specific switches and toggles.

posted a message on Is there a universal way to detect if a player has broken a block around them?

There is no 'easy' command to fix this. You could consider (ab)using an advancement, but that would only expand your problem. Instead of having to add scoreboards you'd now be looking at adding customized scripts (both the advancement as well as a script to go with it).

Quite frankly I don't understand what's stopping you from using the scoreboard. That's what it was meant for and it really isn't that much work.
