1. For half blocks, give us 5 half blocks per craft. (if I put in 3 full blocks, getting out 3 half blocks is like getting out 1.5 full blocks, or half of what I put in. If I get 5 half blocks, this is like getting out 2.5 blocks out of 3, which is a good 5/6ths of what I put in)
Also let us craft half blocks into full blocks if we made a little mistake. (Yes, I did make a few thousand extra cobble-half blocks... Miscalculations ftl) Whole blocks are twice as easy to place to make a full block as half blocks are, and also twice as easy to collect again. It's not equivalent exchange, because people seem not to like that.
Honestly I'm not sure I understand what your saying here. And I don't care enough to find out.
2. Glass should drop glass shards, which can be re-smelted into glass. That way I don’t lose all my glass to redecorating, but it is not equivalent exchange. Speaking of which, swords should not be the best for breaking glass or leaves . Picks should be used for glass and axes for leaves.
Not a bad idea. +1 Support
3. Make bows degrade with use, and only shoot arrows as frequently as a sword can swing. I thought minecraft wasn't supposed to have machine guns?
Soild thought.
4. More things should be flammable, like reeds, wheat, and cactus. When I put cactus in lava, it just defies it! The insolence! Speaking of lava, lava should give all blocks in a 1 meter radius a red tint so we don’t dig into it by accident.
Makes sense.
5. There should be 15 paintings , each corresponding to a different color of cloth, so we can actually pick which painting we want to set down!
Why should paintings correspond to wool? And how does this help me choose which painting to place?
6. Allow us to make plain stone stairs in addition to cobblestone stairs.
Yes. +1 Support
7. Allow us to make levers look like torches for secret levers. Formula:
(lever)
Brilliant! Awesome job! This one is gold. +2 Support.
8. Make work benches easier to destroy with axes. They are quite a pain currently, even with diamond axes.
Sure why not?
Thanks for reading!
Agreed. A lot of games allow back patching (like WoW and a couple of other games I can think of). This is good for running private servers of a specific update or stuff like that.
I'd also like to see a more devoloped 'First Days' guide. I understand that the community has the MCWiki to aid us, but new players may not realise that. A quick guide full of easy-to-understand pictures, on minecraft.net would allow people to get a better idea of what Minecraft is before they buy it.
Agreed. It's just a little bit... Lacking I guess. One thing that I would like to see on the Minecraft Site is complete Patch notes. Knowing what changed and when is one of my favorite things to read through.
That's a great idea. I think I'll expand it to "Update and Patch Notes", a change log from version to version. It would be cool if Mojang openned the old .jar files to download someday.
Possibly make it unlike a fence, where you can pass through it and take damage.
I think you can contain lava between sugar cane or half-blocks, to that effect.
Sugar cane you say? Interesting thought, I'll have to try it. Still having a fence block with that in mind would help get away from strange things like that.
"Oh hey, what is that?"
"Looks like glowing bamboo. Go check it out."
*Burns to death*
Small but would appeal more to new players. The minecraft.app does need the new logo.
Agreed, but I still think that the whole 'feel' of Minecraft outside of the game needs an overhaul. Notch has a chance to make a real high-class video game here. It's our duty as fans to help him and the Mojang crew as much as we can.
I've been thinking about it more. If enough people show support and/or help add to the concept then I'll make some pictures to go along with the suggestion. I saw another thread that I feel goes hand in hand with this one. I'll add it to the OP in a minute.
I think the redstone fence should light-up if anything. I rather do like the barbed wire fence idea though. Like cacti, but can be placed next to each other, but only 1 block tall. Possibly make it unlike a fence, where you can pass through it and take damage. Use in traps and defense, in both SSP and SMP.
So here's a thought. I was uploading a new skin to minecraft.net, and I got to thinking. New content and bug fixes are great. But something I'd really like to see would be updates to minecraft.net profiles and the minecraft.exe GUI. Putting a few of my thoughts down, it looks something like this.
[Update] So I found this thread, I like where Trienco is going this his thoughts. [Update]
Minecraft.net Update:
Give the website a real layout.
Right now minecraft.net is just a collection of links and a video. Look at other game websites, (I'll use kiddy-friendly Runescape here) they have a layout spreading everything out. The website needs more in-game pictures and Icons to make it more appealing visually. Notch wants Minecraft to develop it's own Mythos, what better place to start than Minecraft.net?
Flesh out Player Profiles
Looking at my profile I only see a handful of things. Player Name, E-mail, Change your skin and Gift Codes. I feel that Mojang should give players a little more customzation in their profiles. Player pictures, account sigintures, the skin previewer where ever it ran of to.
Update and Patch Notes
A full change log of the history of Minecraft as a Game. This is a prime chance for Notch to showcase Mojang's talent coding Minecraft.
A More Comprehensive First Days Guide
Allowing prospective buyers to get a general feel for the game and how it's played show more effort on the Devoloper's side. It adds a well rounded feel to the sales pitch. On the same hand, a guide would allow new players a chance to become familar with the game just after they bought it.
Minecraft.exe Update:
Update the GUI to match the new logo.
Mojang busted out this cool new logo, but nothing to go with it. It feels incomplete to me. The menu and background should be tweeked to give a better flow.
These are just a few of my ideas, how does the community feel? What would you like to see happen in this respect?
I think that little features like this are what make Minecraft awesome. Yeah, you could argue the details, but that's not the point. Attention to detail is key. As for your suggestion, I like it. From what I understand it's a simple, almost novel idea. Good job.
