posted a message on Noisy Scary Skelly Parrots

I was wondering... when a parrot mimics something, do other parrots mimic the sound of that parrot?

When you make a long chain of parrots, will they transmit that sound along the whole chain?

Making a surveillance network made up of parrots could be kind of fun xD

posted a message on [1.11+] Creating the ability to Dye water.

You can already change the beacon beam's color using colored glass blocks.

    You can even mix colors.

The system used here could be adapted to coloring water.

posted a message on Is Mending Too OP?

When the pick is the only item with Mending and it is enchanted with Unbreaking III on top of it, then I guess it makes sense that it is at 100% durability at all times.

Is it still the same when you've your offhand and the remaining armor slots occupied by damaged equipment? (also enchanted with Mending)

I guess what makes you feel like it's "OP" is that it works pretty well with Unbreaking.

After all every level of it boosts the efficiency of Mending dramatically.

Now Mojang could nerf Mending or Unbreaking so it isn't a surefire method to keep your stuff alive, but this will only lead to more experience farms being built as "repair stations".

posted a message on Is Mending Too OP?

The enchanting system was changed to make highly enchanted equipment more easily available - my guess is this was done with casual gamers in mind.

The downside of this is that always having enchanted equipment becomes more tedious for more dedicated players.

    Adding Mending fixes this problem.

Additionally Mending doesn't give an advantage in player fights, so both casual and dedicated gamers are happy.

The point that it also saves resources is irrelevant, in my humble opinion.

With the right mining strategy you have piles of resources anyway.

    Is that so?

Seems like my information isn't up to date then.

    Thanks for the heads-up.

I didn't mention hard drives above, because the difference between HDD speeds has more to do with load time, once Minecraft is loaded, there won't be any more major disk access. This includes the server too. However, if you want advice on a HDD, I'd suggest you go with a SDD as they are now $1/GB or less, boot really fast and have a 300 year life expectancy (I personally don't believe anything longer than my only life, but wow!).

    [...]

Sorry, but I can't believe such SSDs exists; at least I don't think they'll work for that long if you use them the wrong way.
The components holding information can only be written with information a set amount of times until they break.
This means the more information gets rewritten the faster SSDs will lose capacity, so the only sensible way to use them is for data and software, which doesn't change on a fast pace (example: OS).

The 300 year life expectancy is likely some advertisement scheme, which assumes the SSD isn't used much to get eye-catching numbers.

posted a message on Ice castle

You could also use the usual ice, since mobs can't spawn on it.

Just use packed ice where you need lighting.

I once made a tower out of ice in a cold biome by creating a mold, pouring water in an waiting till it froze for each layer.

It's kinda time consuming but also an interesting way to build :)

I guess you could also create interesting patterns and structures by alternating between ice, packed ice and snow blocks.

Ah damn, now I want to build an ice castle myself.

I have 3 villagers that have mending, and I didn't even breed them with an automatic farm, I just manually bred them with bread on a dirt house I made and transport them to another room. How is that difficult? I have mending on all my gear... I also have frost walkers btw.

The only "difficult" thing to acquire in this game now is the Elytra. I've found 3 end cities but only one had the ship :(

They're difficult to get compared to other enchantments ... or rather it takes more effort.

Maybe turn lava into a burnable object so the trail goes away?

The only issue is that lava can't create other lava source blocks like water :(

Unless it would create source blocks like Frost Walker does. Wait, does it still do this?

When I wrote this I assumed it would behave similar to walking on water, so the obsidian blocks created by this enchantment would turn back to lava after a while.
Just let those blocks drop nothing when broken and have a lava source block appear instead just like ice usually behaves.

    Kinda OP IMO

Enabling the user to walk on lava would just put the enchantment on the same level has Mending.
Treasure enchantments are difficult to acquire, so this should be fine.
    Besides, Frostwalker is very situational.
It won't even safe your butt when you fall into lava from a few blocks above, so Ghasts will still pose a threat while crossing lava oceans.

Although adding this would give the enchantment more purposes than just traversing oceans.

posted a message on Uses for cobwebs

You could use cobwebs as filler items in item sorters.

For example if you're building a huge item sorter for a storage room you'd need an item that's stackable and usually doesn't appear as an item to fill up the slots in a hopper besides the item you're sorting for.

Cobwebs aren't used much, can only be mined with special preparations and are also rather rare, so they'd make a good choice as filler items.

Also counts for items you're holding in the off hand. So if your using a sword in your primary hand to kill things, a pickaxe with mending in your other hand will get repaired.

This also applies to stuff worn in armor slots.

Basically every time you pick up an experience orb a random item worn in all armor slots, main hand or off hand enchanted with Mending will gain 2 durability.
If the items are already at full durability the experience points are added to the experience bar instead.
