posted a message on Looking for advice on building a shooting gallery sideshow.

Technically it should be possible and should even be configurable for points even (have some targets be "worth" more for different prizes). It only depends on how much room you have and how big you are willing to have the mechanisms.

    1) The set number of arrows should be easy to do with Dispensers I believe. I honestly can't really think of a simple way to do this other than connecting it to a toggleable clock or having the initial signal split and delayed to different intervals with repeaters.

    2) The targets themselves can be placed how you want them. You could even use some clocks with Pistons to make moving blocks go in front of the target (requiring proper timing to hit). (see the Ultimate Collection of Redstone Circuit Designs topic and look at the Clock section)

    3) If you do a flat "scale" for targets (all targets are worth the same amount of points), then each target can be connected to a dispenser with the Prizes where the signal passes through only if X number of inputs are received. (see the Ultimate Collection of Redstone Circuit Designs topic and look at the Counter section)

If you wanted to have each target be "worth" more, than you could simply have the higher weighted targets create multiple signals on a delay for what's probably the simplest method.

This is something I've been planning on doing as well at some point. If I do, I'll let you know and post it somewhere.

    Quote from FUZYWUZYWUZAB3R

hey guys, i dont mean to sound ignorant but why is minecraft pocket so "backwards?" all it is is minecraft classic. thats about it. with all they have done for the full game, why havnt they implemented it in the mobile version? ive been playing black ops zombies on my ipod and its the FULL game, just like the console version. everything is there. so why cant minecraft be the same? it seems to me that mojang is just being lazy, or im uneducated. i might not understand the limitations the mobile version has, but im leaning towards mojang not wanting to put in 100%. anyone else with this feeling? cmon, i cant be alone.

Are you implying that Mojang, a team of maybe 6 people in total (1 of which is working on M:PE) has the same time, money and manpower as Treyarch with a studio of 250+ people?

Yeah, I'm going to go with the text that has the nice underline below it. Uneducated as all hell.

Welcome to the past my friend.

Some more tips you might not know about:

-On the homescreen of Android or iOS, if you tap the Minecraft: Pocket Edition icon, the phone will attempt to launch the program. If the program is launched succesfully, you will be shown the Minecraft: Pocket Edition main menu.
-Press the UP on the control pad makes you move forward, the reverse is also true where pressing DOWN makes you move back.
-If you press the "3RD PERSON" button on the 'pause' menu, you will switch to 3rd person. MAGIC!!!
-There are now Zombies and Sheep.
-Things that make you lose health hurt.
-Going down to 0 health means you die.

Seriously though, I can't see how hard it is to search around and read... I mean, next people will be posting about how they didn't know they can auto-regen all health by doing the Konami Code with O=B X=A on the Xperia Play...

No i haven't read anything about Pocket Edition as of yet, that's why i came to the forum to seek out information from people that have a bit more insight into it than me.

True, but next time please try to word it as you actually asking a question and wanting an answer to it instead of what seems like another post of "M:PE, Y U NO FULL MINECRAFT!?!".

    Quote from lock0n12

I understand the tools as being unlimited, but it would be more like survival if they didn't give us the wool and other blocks that we would have to craft. I know it would be impossible to get those blocks then, but theres a reason for creative mode.

So, you would rather have the current iteration of Survival to only be able to use: Dirt, Cobblestone, Sand, Gravel and Wood, basically? You can say "that's what Creative mode is for", but it isn't. Survival is more about being able to explore and survive then it is about having to gather materials. I mean, just ask all the people that were building towers of Iron and Diamonds in their Creative worlds hoping to take advantage of them when Survival came out what they prefer.

Really though, the infinite blocks aren't a big deal. Mostly mechanisms (doors, fences, torches), some basic and easy to gather blocks (planks and bricks), and then blocks that are purely cosmetic and serve no other purpose (wool). If they would have you be able to place infinite Obsidian blocks, Diamond blocks or things like that, then I might see the point of being a little annoyed.

In the current implementation, it makes a lot more sense to have those blocks be infinite for now, rather than cut the number of blocks down to 6 and make it more useless than Creative. If they were going to do that, might as well not release Survival yet at all.

I was playing Minecraft Pocket Edition last night, i played it for the first time with the new update, so i went on survival where i noticed that on "survival" you have limitless tools and some limitless blocks ? How is this survival? The whole point of survival is that you start with nothing, and that you have to get all your resources. Has anyone else noticed this? If so reply to form a discussion or +1 if you think that the survival mode on Pocket Edition should be exactly like regular Minecraft. Thanks.

There is no crafting and no proper interface in place for all these things... so naturally, instead of having everyone start with NO tools (since, you know, you CAN'T CRAFT THEM!), they gave everyone limitless tools and limitless items that can't normally be obtained.

Also, you are yet another person that can't seem to search and discover information on their own, read, or maybe have a little thought about things before posting. They are working to getting Survival as close as they feel comfortable with to the PC. It's just that, like the very PC version you point to, they are doing so by iterations... and MUCH MUCH FASTER, might I add (yes, I might).

posted a message on Releasing in chunks vs. Releasing full game with bugs
I'm personally a "delay release for more content and more stable release" kind of guy, but there are VERY few of us left and breathing...

However, given an option between 1) "Release it with majors bugs that get fixed later" and 2) "Release it stable and partial and add more features later", I'll pick #2.

Most games that go with #1 are often unplayable or have game-ruining glitches in them (major unavoidable lag, save file corruptions, dead end progress, etc...) and can't really be enjoyed or played at all until the first wave of patches. So the game releases and you spend the first weeks trying to play it and just getting frustrated over and over again, yelling at the devs for releasing a crappy game. The bugs get fixed and eventually comes to resemble a "normal" game (or at least, what one should be). By then, it doesn't matter much. The people just coming in see nothing wrong and those that were there from the beginning have nothing but bile and venom for how bad it was.

Compare that to the progressive releases that Minecraft has had. Most people that played pre-alpha have positive and happy memories of how things used to be, as well as how great it was when things got improved. I remember having a lot of fun playing when we had simple health, monsters and such. I remember how great it was with each new big feature they added... how awesome and exciting it was to travel to the Nether for the first time... as well as the fear and rush it was to try and fight or run from the Ghasts. I remember having a blast playing with Pistons and Redstone Repeaters and all the new mechanisms that could be done. I remember hunting around the non-generated areas of my multiplayer world with a few friends hunting for NPC villages, abandoned mineshafts and Strongholds. All that is seen in a positive light by people that played before and witnessed the game get better.

Do you know the main difference between the two? The latter (unfinished game getting closer to completion) can be tolerated a lot more than the former (finished game that's full of bugs that are being fixed).

With the latter, you are told and know that it's an unfinished game (usually Alpha or Beta) and are just happy that you get to play it "before" it's done. You help with the game being built and see it go from rough concept to more completed game. You usually see it in a much more positive light, as if you don't like how it is, just don't play. It's only an alpha/beta, so no big deal for putting it aside and forgetting about it.

With the former, however, you are under the assumption that it's a complete and functional game, only to realize that it's barely finished and has had little to no QA testing. You usually have no say on what's going to happen and instead of enjoying what little you have while hoping for more, you get angered at what little you do have compared to what you were told you'd have or expected.

I can point to a game like Call of Duty: Black Ops and show how many players that got it when it was released hated it. Either because of glitches, hit detection issues, lag issues, unbalanced weapons, etc... Those that started playing AFTER all that was fixed usually have a much more positive view of the game. Compare that to people that played Minecraft PC since pre-Alpha. They usually enjoyed playing before and just liked it more and more as it evolved and improved.

In your list of stuff that won't be added, you listed everything that will be added (besides crafting.), also, you dont need this cuz the update came out last night

My list of things that most likely will be added and most likely won't be added was based on the information that was given.

And look! They actually added a lot more than they said they would add!

I'm sorry but I have a problem with this.

Firstly, they are the same game. The only real difference is the GUI and how the game uses resources. The point here is that it's still written in stupid Java and shares other identical components.

They are not the same game. At least, they weren't before and won't be until phones get a lot more powerful. The thing most people have to realize is that, even for something like Minecraft most (read: MOST) phone games aren't supposed to be long games that you play for an extended session. Some are and they are great. Minecraft especially is one that you either hop on, do a few little things here and there before logging off... or you spend hours and hours doing something. With the limited space available on the M:PE worlds, there isn't much exploring to do. It's a smaller version of the game made for portable devices. When it comes to the point that playing on the PC and playing on the phones is the EXACT SAME, then you can say it's the same game.

    Quote from Black4ugust
Secondly, The target audience is almost exactly the same. I don't have any figures on this but "hardcore phone gamers" don't usually make it onto the charts. Both the PC and the mobile version are targeting [mostly] the same people.

The target audience isn't the same. A lot of them will be similar, but like a lot of people here even said they never got the chance to play Minecraft on the PC or didn't really have any interest in it. Now that it's on phones, they are curious and want to try it out.

    Quote from Black4ugust
Thirdly, the reason you don't "buy the PS3 version of a game and get the Xbox 360 version for free" is because you aren't promised that agreement by the seller. Furthermore, using that analogy counteracts your argument that they are different games.

A more correct analogy, as I see it, is buying access to unlimited limeade from a limeade stand then a month later they start making cherry limeade, so you head on down and order one. Then they tell you that you need to pay for it because it's a cherrylimeade not original, despite no stipulations being made.

That's just my friends and my own opinion and you are free to have your own opinion.

Yes, my analogy was wrong. It should have been more along the line of "you don't buy the Wii version of CoD and expect to get the DS version for free". However, here's the main thing you have to realize as far as game analogies: most games are completed when released. They work on the game, get to a point where they believe it's done, then sell it to people. Minecraft however, started, built up and is still evolving. We still don't have the "true" Adventure mode on PC yet, M:PE is far from even considered complete. Do they look very similar now that the update has been released? Yes, similar enough. Will they be the same game with just M:PE being more compact (EG: PS3 version VS Wii version) or will they be the same title, but two fairly different games in the end (EG: Wii version VS DS version)? That we don't know yet. We do know that it most likely won't. They'll be similar, but still not the same game.

The perfect example I can give is the difference between the NES game Blaster Master and it's GBC counterpart Blaster Master: Blasting Again. The games are VERY similar, but there are enough differences between them that they are still different games.
