posted a message on Advice for a teacher and total minecraft novice!!

It may also be worth noting that in Minecraft water doesn't completely follow the normal laws of nature, the way it behaves takes a bit of getting used to. Example, if you dump a bucket of water down and there is a step down (or a hole) within 5 blocks, it will not spread out as you might expect, but rather head in a straight line toward the step down or hole. (See attached pic - 1st pic, a flat area - second pic, exact same area, flat except holes placed 5 blocks away from source) And if you scoop up a bucket of water from along the edge of a shoreline it will create a current as the source block is not renewed (best to take it from corners of the shoreline or a block or more away from the edge). A 2x2 hole with water in each corner will create an infinite water source, it will renew itself every time you take from it, you can do this with a 1x3 line (or longer) providing there is a water source block every two blocks. Water will only flow 8 blocks then it stops, unless it goes down a block when the 8 block rule refreshes.

Other people have been experiencing this too, myself included. I contacted them about it, but didn't really get a good answer. Really hoping it's something they're working on fixing...

posted a message on Adult Minecrafters Unite

I'll be 44 later this year, been playing video games since my early teens, been into Minecraft for 5 or 6 years now I think. My sons got me into it when they were still in their teens. They've long since grown out of it, but I still love it. However I've mostly played solo though, bit of a recluse (quite a shy person), don't really have any experience of multiplayer - videos I have watched on YouTube have seemed rather chaotic and off-putting, but it might be a nice thing to try some time with other dedicated mature adults. All I ever hear about Minecraft in the news / media is what a great game it is for kids, and when you say to people 'Oh I play Minecraft' (or even just video games) you get a strange look sometimes!

posted a message on Do Your Parents Play?
I am the parent, I've played Minecraft for about 4 years - my boys, who are both now young adults themselves, introduced me to Minecraft and it really appealed to me, I love the freedom the game allows. I have played together with them in the past, though they don't play it as much nowadays. I haven't really played it much in multiplayer, but I love the single player game and I'm still adding to my main worlds. I'll be 43 soon, and have been a gamer since my early teens when I used to play on my old Atari 2600 and Commodore 16 in the '80s, so I've been at it a little while, in fact I can't imagine not being into computer games :)
