posted a message on I found an unknown item?
I've found both records in dungeons.

I thought the skeletons on spiders thing was a hoax for a long time, then I finally saw one. Then I saved the game to reload and show someone and the creatures respawned (no skele+spider) :sad.gif:

posted a message on Pork vs Bread
Coal isn't all that rare if you have the least in the way of a cave system. I spend the majority of my time in caves, so I usually have plenty of coal to spend on cooking pork. On one of my maps, there is a rather large plain, so piggies spawn there pretty frequently, giving me access to fast pork; it's a pain to have to get 7 pieces at a time (to use up my coal efficiently) so I'll usually cook pork alongside iron, stone, or what have you. I found some mushrooms, so I've been making some soup lately, although mushrooms are kind of dangerous to try and collect most of the time. I have several fields, but I tend to only use bread when I'm out of pork and I don't want to bother (or am in very low health) to go up and get more.

posted a message on Intercontinental Subway
I just built (and tested a few times) my intercontinental subway. It is 300+ blocks long, straight, 3x3 (mostly, I left the majority of a partially-explored cave). Using a powered minecart pushing my minecart, it takes about 20-s I'd say, to make it all the way through, which is much more fun than holding down "W".

So what should I do next? I tried making a trap for a skeleton spawner I found, but that's going to take a bit more work. I've been making gigantic staircases all over the map (I really like tunneling out 3x3 for about 40-80 squares, then making a gigantic staircase by digging down and leveling out). I have a port, a pseudowall, several mines/explored caves, ceiling-bases (even one on a floating island). Maybe I should get lost and start over. But only after I burn through a few stacks of coal on my new subway .... :biggrin.gif:

Anyway, has anyone else built a sizable subway? Also, I was thinking of making a video (pictures don't really do much justice), does anyone have any good suggestions for that?

I really, really, really hate snow because it lags down everything. Snowballs are fun, but not really worth the FPS sacrifice. Maybe think about making a new world without snow? Also, maybe increase fog?

In terms of presentation; I enjoy your voice (are you Southern at all? You remind me of a friend from Alabama), but I don't feel terribly excited by your presentation. Maybe make a catchphrase and incorporate more profanity (seriously, when you dropped the F-bomb it made me super-happy). You play minecraft because it's fun, and you clearly enjoy it: make your enjoyment of it audible :smile.gif: Just relax and have fun, but let us know you're having fun :biggrin.gif:

    EDIT: Haven't seen epi 3 yet... :wink.gif:

EDIT2: Watched Epi 3. Quality is much improved. It may be that you're getting more acclimated to your world, but it feels more comfortable and easygoing now than the first time around. I still think you need more profanity :smile.gif:

    Neat.

I did something similar without battlements, linking two towers (my main base and a piggy spawning place) and a port. It's interesting because when I use overhead maps (which is rare, since I'm on a mac) I can use the wall as a landmark. I got bored with the process after a while though and started looking for dungeons and scouting out the nearby continent.

Minecraft is the type of game where there is always something epic that you can do :biggrin.gif:

I successfully ran this on my wife's PC, and it works really well, but it's a pain to transfer 20+mb files back and forth, so I'm trying to get it to work on my Mac.

So, I've done the ff=unix thing, and pointed the .sh file directly to the .jar, but now it gives me this in terminal when I try to run it. I know really very little about running programs in Mac relative to PC, so if there is something stupid that I'm missing, please let me know.

posted a message on I think the monsters are conspiring against me.
I vote that you go find some iron and a lava fall, then bring it back and napalm the bastards.

That said, doors work really well if you want to climb down and hit them with a sword. I had a similar situation a few days ago where I ended up with three doors all in a row so that I could smack monsters from behind the doors, then when it cleared a little bit, put down flares, break down the doors, and move on. Of course, doors have a crappy tendency to open when you are frantically clicking on them :sad.gif:

I love RP. I have played D&D for years, including multiple campaigns and a few stints as GM. I have played in a few MUDs and MOOs, including ArethMUD where I have a pair of adept (level 50+ characters). I have also RP'd in webforums like this one, where I have been part of civilizations and communities, etc. Also, I have greatly enjoyed single-player survival so far; looking forward to something new and interactive. I'm more of a functional builder than an artistic builder, but I'm willing to work with other people to make an interesting town. I really want to learn about how community works in minecraft, and figure out ways to add to the community as the game progresses.
