Here's a suggestion/ mod request for 1.8: Cobbled new stones! (Is it too soon to request this without forge or mcp or something?)
When you mine the new stones they drop as cobbled versions of themselves that can be used as normal just like regular cobblestone.
Polishing requires smelting the cobbled stone first, then crafting as normal.
Can craft the new cobbled stones (I'm thinking of simplifying the recipes for the new stones so that all require just one stone and one quartz each, where the stone is in the middle, and horizontal (granite), vertical (andesite) and diagonal (diorite) placement of one quartz results in new stone
Also Rammed earth - has a higher blast resistance than dirt:
Recipe: (sand, dirt, clay, gravel = 1 rammed earth, any order)
Where can I find the new block textures? (I can't find slime, andesite etc) I want to edit them and make my own texture pack. I can find the rest in the textures folder.
Also I have little idea of what i'm doing . If i just copy the edited folders (zipped) into the resources folder is that pretty much it?
(Before I get started if this is in the wrong section, can somebody move it?)
I want to change the textures of the new stones in 1.8, but don't have have any idea how... any help?
Also, is there any up to date tutorials for modding 1.8? Here's what i want to modify (aside from textures):
Blocks: I want diorite, granite and andesite to have cobbled forms, and can be in most crafting recipes that use stone. Actually, I want to modify pretty much everything to do with the new stones.
Horses: I want to modify the model so they don't have so many vertices. I essentially want to simplify them.
I want enchanted golden apples to have a lower tier gold recipe, plus they must actually be enchanted using enchanting.
I want wolves to drop wolf hides.
I want untameable hostile wolves to be added to the nightly mob roster.
I want something that will reveal an entire map, rather than having to go back and forth on foot/horse. Is not fun.
Please, I'd prefer dwarf fortress style raw modification, but advanced world gen is a very, very close second on my list. A photo finish, etc. etc.
F yeah Dwarf fortress!!!
Also On topic, one of the best suggestions I have seen, although I could care less about the mobs spawn control.
I hope mojang employees see this!.... BUT with the mod API coming up at some point in the near to distant future they may not bother to implement this. Then again they might if most of the work is done already http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/2003553-wip-010-world-control/
I remember 2 years ago before I had to get a new laptop, I had one which was barely alive. I had to play with the fog (now render distance) set to low. I never knew what it was like to play on far, so it didn't really matter. It's like not being allowed sugary cereal when you're a kid and you don't care because cereal is nice, but then when you get good cereal you can't go back.
no support, i would actually prefer they made all the other mobs more complex, like a tiny little tail and hooves for pigs, hooves for sheep and cows, and tails as a part of their model rather than a flat texture, knees and elbows should be on most mobs too, and seperate part of the model for the skeleton of pigmen, instead of just a flat texture, like it's whole fleshy body being a hat layer, ghasts with wriggly tentacles that flow, actually hollow skeleton skulls....
honestly, looking good doesn't change that this is minecraft, this is the game they envisioned as early as the adventure update (before that it was a totally different game, completely different), and i think it looks great.
At least your vision of mobs has them fitting in well wiith eachother aesthetically, which I can respect. I just want the opposite, but if they did make all the mobs like what you say, then I wouldn't mind it that much; it would just be a bit of a drastic change.
It's just currently, horses feel like the odd one out to me (visually).
Anyway here's just a few points i want to puke up about minecraft, specifically 1.7.2. First off I'd like to say I do actually like minecraft, just not as blindly as some. And to those who say "just mod what you don't like", I say I've already thought of this and do not have skill, or can't be bothered. (And I play solo, and am pretty pro-vanilla, although I wouldn't mind a few things being changed.)
Also it's much easier to point out what I don't like about the game (the good parts are pretty bang on).
If you want a jungle, try this seed: -123775873255737467 (default); there's a massive jungle not far to the east of spawn (AMIDST shows it starting at X = 100 and going until X = 2600 in a southeasterly direction, also up to 1600 blocks wide and with several jungle-Ms); there's also a desert about 500 blocks to the west of spawn:
That is a nice seed! But alas I spent too much time on the last one and have given up on minecraft for the time being.
The new generation is probably Mojang's answer to threads like this one; now if you want something reasonably close to spawn you have to find a seed for it. Although maybe they went a bit too far.
That thread sums up alot of my problems, there's another similarly popular thread somewhere that says the same. Mojang kinda messed up the terrain generation this time. Hopefully they will correct it.
My secondary problem was mapping. Mapping should be better and there should be more incentive to do so.
I'm surprised you're not complaining about the Ocelot then, which also have joints and multiple skins. You also can't rule out the Enderdragon either; it's still in the game, pretending it's not there while complaining about the horse is borderline hypocrisy.
I don't see how horses are not "Minecrafty" (My god that word is stupid), They are made out of blocks, that's basically all that is needed for a mob to go with the block theme of Minecraft. Yeah, it has joints. So what? There's no rule in place by Mojang that banishes joints of any kind, joints are often depicted in official artwork for the game anyway. This is like saying that the snowball does not fit minecraft because it depicts a circle. I'd actually love it if the other mobs were on par with the level of detail that is in the Horse's model and textures.
On the note of horses, you should consider using them if you hate the way biomes are placed now.
If you like their model that's fine, I'm just saying as a very common mob they should be less complex and fit in more with the other common mobs - also I feel they are too much of a nod to modded horses. I exclude the enderdragon from my argument, because there is ONLY ONE. It's meant to be special. I mention enderdragon because it's always used as a counter-argument for my horse model problem. It's just horse's model i have a problem with, not snowballs not carrots not ocelots not wolves. They, to me, are sufficiently minecrafty ("my god that word is stupid" there's no need to mean kid, please be civil). And horses as i did mention, are awful for travel in forests and extreme hills, but thats OK since I've no problem with their function, just their aesthetics.

Redstone is just awful. I actually dislike it. But then it's pretty useless for a Solo survivalist who dabbles in building castles.

I think they should add in map marker blocks or something in the game that show up on your map as a star or blip.

I like minecraft! I did make a point of it...
I know this is a rant, but I believe all or most of my points are rather valid. So the thread title may be a small bit misleading. Also here are two other threads (more popular) that have similar views on terrain gen. http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/817769-did-the-terrain-become-boring-update-6513-17-is-a-biome-update/ and http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1246755-terrain-seeds-are-useless-and-heres-why-poll-added/
There's more than a handful of people that think the same way and aren't just haters.

I just felt like adding them in. But I felt my mapping problem spans all updates.

I posted a similar thread here, but it mostly complains about mapping with maps. http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/2148670-my-critique-angry-rant-about-172-maps/#entry26347660
