posted a message on Need some ideas of what to build

^-- you know, i was just thinking of that too and was going to add that. pick a real-world historical setting, such as the old west, and build up something for that.

or modify or build up an entire new biome.

also i just found a thread around here that helps with deciding what to build: http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/minecraft-discussion/creative-mode/2847987-dont-know-what-to-build-click-here

ever seen any of the minecraft books? theres always inspiration in those. also, just modifying existing structures is always fun. or to take it to another level, find an existing structure, such as the desert temple, and go somewhere and build a bigger and more glorious one. so for the desert temple, aim to build one thats at least three times as big, as well as a bigger underground section, and set a bunch of traps in it. stuff like that.

i like big composite/ community builds, such as a castle and walled city, a shopping mall, or sometimes i find the caves under villages where the v-gers like to drop in and congregate, and turn all that into an underground city with homes and shops and even farms for them.

go through your favorite books/ movies and rebuild your favorite structures from them.

if youre into abstract art, you could set up a map for things like optical illusions with various colored wool blooks set in a spiraling tunnel, or a recreation of mc escher (like so: https://minecraft.wonderhowto.com/news/m-c-eschers-gravity-defying-relativity-illusion-recreated-minecraft-0130040/ ), or things like that.

actually i believe the real answer is supposed to be "make friends". the more you play with others online or in multiplayer, the more you can learn from your friends, and you can pass along some of your knowledge to others as well. minecraft was designed to be a very social game, so things like that can bring people together. i have made accidental discoveries playing with my friends/ family and watched people on youtube do the same just by playing together in a group. youd be surprised what the chances are of making new discoveries of how to do something new or find a new way to get an item just by having extra hands on board.

other than that, you go to online resources if you can't manage to figure things out by trial and error. there are also a good number of books that you can buy in pretty much any bookstore, walmart, or whathaveyou.

posted a message on Book and Quill Novels

haha, i do write with the book and quill sometimes, but im too possessive of my writing to give it out to others. xD i might consider it just once though. i have a creative map on the xbox where ive been leaving books around as easter eggs and they have quotes from an rp that im playing, and theyre located in the corresponding location where each particular quote happened. i also have a map that im working on for videos where i write down my lines or a description of what im doing in that video just so i can remember what im doing. at some point im thinking of doing some fairy tales and leaving a few of those around for people to randomly find.

edit: oh that reminds me, i made a short video series where i played the legend of steve map and in one of the videos i found a book and read all 22 pages out loud in the video just because. xD

starts somewhere around the 7 minute mark. also sorry for embedding the entire video here, that wasnt my intention, but im not sure how to just link it. >[email protected]

You can put milk and cocoa beans together to make chocolate milk, and then smelt it for hot cocoa. Chocolate milk prevents poison for 3 minutes, and hot cocoa increases your mining speed.

(Heck, this needs to be an actual thing. A mod, at least...)

I like the premise of getting diamonds with lava, but going with the "believable" theme, I would say:

    - You can make diamonds by putting coal/ charcoal into the top slot of the furnace and placing a bucket of lava on the bottom slot.

I love some of these ideas; they need to be made into mods. Especially love the idea of using hostile mob drops to create a spawner.

posted a message on When you are first starting, what do you get so excited to finally find (besides diamonds!)?

Lapis, because I use it to make purple dye so I can dye sheep. :) Also sheep. XD

Oh and I like to grief my friends by placing purple wool blocks in their way, like right in front of their door or something. XD

posted a message on 7x6 cottage with loft

I'm an ambitious builder. Actually, in general, I'm an ambitious artist. I usually intend to create something simple, and it just keeps getting bigger and bigger as I go. XD Flash fiction gets turned into novels, doodles turn into entire pages of comic book... Today my project was to build a small set of stables and a restaurant/ inn, and they were SUPPOSED to be small and humble, obscured by the trees.

Well, let's just say those trees are unable to do their job anymore. XD

But I also LOVE to build large clusters of small builds (when I can wrangle them down to the right size). I don't know why.. I just love the busy look, I guess. XD

posted a message on Terraforming and Flatland Opinion

I flatten out portions of the terrain, but try to build with the hills and dips, good for building things like a split-level house. I also flatten and build at the bottom of a hill so that part of the house is nestled in the hill, and it looks like the hill is growing up around the house. I used to build only on flat land, but grew boring on me. Building on flat terrain to test build first is a good idea, although it *does* limit your building to flat lands. I don't know how to test build for a structure I intend to park on a hill without actually having the hill. :D

There are real life cities that will flatten out the land before building on it. I live in a hilly city right next to a city with lots of flattened out areas. So it might make sense to combine both types of builds, located in different regions in the map.

My general rule of thumb is for a modern house, tower, etc., I build flat. For things like an ancient castle, I build on a hill and let some portions of the floor gently rise on slabs, or build entire rooms some blocks higher than other rooms, accessible by staircase. The reason for this is because often castles were built this way, but also age causes the land to settle or the stone and other materials to wear down.

The lions and stuff designed on the bottom of the building are my favorite.
