Search Google for 'Optimine' and 'Optifog' these 'mods' slightly alter the way the original MC program calculates new chunks and renders. These make the calculations more efficient and give fps increases.
My crummy laptop has benefited immensely from these.

May 15, 2011Poza2004 posted a message on How to get your minecraft over 115 fps *worked for 9/10 pplWooow this worked great! My laptop's rubbish but this has certainly helped. People should check this!Posted in: Survival Mode
May 13, 2011I've spent the last few nights on my SSP hunting creepers to accumulate sulphur, I finally have a stack of it so could make 12 blocks of TNT, but now I've got a significant amount, I can't think of a worth while thing to do with it.Posted in: Survival Mode
May 13, 2011"The problem with voxels has been that they often looks like small cubes, which isn't great"Posted in: Survival Mode
Excuse me buddy but 2 million people have paid for extra large cubes! The world wants cubes!
OT: Looks cool but I'm no game designer so most of it was way over my head.
May 9, 2011I say underground base in the sense of building into pre-existing terrain like cool mountains or hills etc, mainly because I'm terrible at creating nice looking houses...Posted in: Survival Mode
I'm not so fond of using caves however, not so sure why though...
May 8, 2011Posted in: Survival ModeQuote from Irodu »Purely the surprise element.
There is nothing like digging in your mine and as you break a block, that just so happens to open on a cave, and without hearing anything before 'twang'.
I fully agree, the surprise aspect is the main worry I have when spelunking.
I think it's when venturing into a pitch black branch of a cave and not knowing whether it's going to be safe or not. IMO the 'TWANG' is one of the scariest noises, though an unexpected creeper still makes me soil my underwear....
May 7, 2011Poza2004 posted a message on Post your ratio of deaths to your ratio of mob kills0:42 - I had to reset my minecraft folder not long ago cause it was a bit messed, so there would be a few more mobs killed since 1.5, but then also a couple of deaths =] I hate me those skeletons!Posted in: Survival Mode
May 4, 2011Something I do when I'm trying to build interlocking castle towers which I think is what you're trying to add to the outside of your existing cylinder, is to use Microsoft paint.Posted in: Survival Mode
It sounds like a dumb idea, but if you zoom in as close as possible then you get a gridlined area, which then you can draw in the circles and place them wherever you like etc, and then when you're happy with it looking the right shape and dimensions you have yourself the 'blueprints' to your design =)
May 3, 2011Posted in: Survival ModeQuote from Maxdknife »Quote from Infrantage2 »Wooden half blocks are just a re-skin of stone half blocks.
This. Explains why they don't light on fire, and why picks take them out quickly.
Ahhh I was wondering if that might have been the case... I may use this to may advantage in future then when making fireplaces and the like.
May 3, 2011I was trying to make an aesthetic table to sit in the middle of my new workshop room, however this didn't really work out as I'd hoped it to so I needed to destroy the dozen or so wooden half blocks I'd placed as the table top.Posted in: Survival Mode
I began by punching, something which generally works well on trees, but no it was far to slow. I quickly craft an axe, yet this can do no more damage than a swollen fist. I pull out my but they refuse to light on fire! [Maybe a tip for people wanting to create wooden fireplaces which don't combust at random every five minutes]
After resigning myself to punching away for a few minutes I by some random decision choose to pull over my pick, and low and behold this storms through the last couple of wooden slabs. *Facepalm*
May 1, 2011I've never heard of any biome effect on mob spawning, but here's my general list of things you need to do for a good spawn area:Posted in: Survival Mode
- Obviously a darkened room is where you want them to be, but in order to get them to spawn in this specific area you need to light up the surrounding environment.
- Either wait for daytime, therefore mobs won't spawn above ground, or spam the local area with torches.
- You need to also clear out any dungeons underground, as any mobs spawning underground take away from what you're getting above.
- This can be very time consuming to do manually, so if you don't have a problem with cheating a little, press F3 to show where the major caves and dungeons are under ground.
- As somebody mentioned earlier mobs will not spawn within 25 blocks of you, so you need to stand that far away, and they will spawn up to bout 140 or something blocks - i think.
Hope this helps =]
May 1, 2011The molecular make-up of both is based on carbon, however both are formed in different ways and other elements are also present. Their properties are vastly different and their qualities are useful in different ways; the abundance of coal [both real world and MC!] has so far made it a great fuel, and the strength of diamond makes it ideal for mining [again real world and MC!] not just for jewellery.Posted in: Survival Mode
On topic of MC however and OP, coal is relatively common [though clay is everywhere in the real world!!!] and as such should stay as it is, it's not used for much else in the real world than for burning so that's how it should remain in game. Diamond however, great for those pimpin boots of mine!
