Shaders can't completely be replicated in vanilla minecraft, but lightmaps can and vanilla shaders can make a good simulation in a pinch. Here are a few that might help you get started. Remember, don't take without asking and giving credit!
Bloom Lighting is a vanilla shader created by grar (author of Willpack) that was made into a separate resource pack by thebaum64.
Naturus: Better Nature by Maximus12 is a resource pack that uses a lightmap to make shadows. It does this by making the second lightest color (block light 14) in the sunlight part of the lightmap much darker than the very lightest part (block light 15). it also has redone texture and a custom skybox that add to the feel of shaders in minecraft.
If I remember right, Monsterfisher played around with waving grass in his pack Conquest. You'll want to look around in the ctm (connected textures, in the mcpatcher folder in the resource pack,) for it.
I hope this helped, and that you can use one of these (but get permission if it's not just for personal use!) to create something you are happy with.
Here's a rather bright but usable pallet I made, in some different versions and sizes.
My progress so far. Using Steel's pallet.
I've got 3 cobble random textures not shown here. Blocks that are probably gonna change are the dispense + dropper top texture, and haybale side, smooth granite, jungle log and podzol (it's too bright) and maybe brick.
@Alvoria: This seed has all biome within a 2k block radius of 0,0. I suggest you use small biomes, and make a command block teleporter at the hub for quick transport during the video (less cuts=much wow very efficiency)
does someone know a good tutorial about creating palettes?
I searched but found nothing helpful o.O
I don't know of an tutorials, but here's a few tips I've thought up
I you don't need a colour, don't put it in!
if two colours are similar, combine them
keep with a theme (around the same saturation, etc) when choosing colours
Copy colour ramps onto others with a low transparency. This makes color ramps look better together (ex. butternut [my pack] has yellow copied all over)
use hue shifts, but don't over-do it. Make sure your colour ramps get darker and don't just change colour (ex. yellow->orange->pink->purple, looks weird same brightness)
give the most of the colours you will use the most. Don't give 13.445 pink colours, and only 3 greys! a blue-green ramp and a yellow-green ramp can be seperate, but I prefer to make my lighter greens yellow-ish and my and my darker greens blue-ish in one ramp
If you plan to make your colours snake around and connect to eachother, here are a few tips for that
Don't choose how many colours you need by how much room you have. Spread out, and don't be afraid of placing a colour twice to fill up exra room
I like to connect the dark greens into the dark blues, the light greens into the bright yellows, the dark yellows into the browns, and the dark brown into the dark greys. The dark blues and the dark reds can both connect to a purple section, and pink can come off the purple or one of the reds. lighter reds should tend to be yellowy, and have oranges, and not turn pink.
Is it possible to add more paintings to the minecraft painting image? I seem to remember Sphax doing something like this. Are there any MCPatcher files I need or can I just do the same layout as the Sphax one?
EDIT: WIP Paintings! Still stitching together. I have 3 extra 64x64 (4 by 4 block) paintings... Not sure what to do with them
EDIT2:: Seradicus, I tried.... c:
2 versions, lighter on top, darker on bottom Not sure if attatchments will give full quality, but to lazy to do otherwise :#
So I experimented with shading... or, rather the lack thereof.
Opinions?
Don' listen to them! This is gorgeous! Acacia sapling is my favorite. Dirt my be too saturated, but I'll wait to see some other blocks before I really decide on that

Whedro has also made an amazing custom lightmap for his (even more amazing) resource pack. Definitely check this one out.

more,
btw, this is not my finished pack! still a wip
Malcomb, I really love the ore blocks and bed! It's great how you make different textures flow together by using the same type of brush.

Drazil12 'n SpeedyCube, your palettes are so hard. Definitely a challenge, I haven't even managed to make a nice grass with them.
I made a palette (14 colour) just in case I want to participate, but I like using it so much I might keep it to myself }:3

Yes
It is a yellow themed pack. Butternut is an orange squash that grows in fall, when leaves are yellow orange and red too.
