Power-emoting: A person is guilty of power-emoting if they have their character (1) perform infeasible actions through emotes, or (2) perform an emote that renders an opponent unable to react.

    In-Character Information:
Complete the following biography on your character:

    Full Name: Lucarius Argonus Griffith
    Current Age: 28
    Sub-race (if any): Northerner
Past / History (include childhood, major-events, etc. 2+ paragraphs long):
Lucarius was brought up in a forested village in midwestern Salvus in the Holy Oren Empire. Lucarius is of two heritages- his father, Aeneas is a Northerner born and bred, while his mother, Daniara is a Southeron by blood. Lucarius was inspired by the touching story of his parents, and always wanted a marriage just like theirs.

In his preteen and teen years, Lucarius was mentored by his father the lumberjack, and he simply took up the family trade when he was old enough. However, Lucarius could never forget the old man, Polonius the Fool, a bard who came yearly to the village. The tales of the grand things in the world outside entranced Lucarius, inspiring him to travel throughout the land of Anthos- though he knew all the while that he belonged right where he was. Even as he grew older, Lucarius still memorized the stories Polonius told, and with his mother’s inherited wit he became quite the storyteller himself.

For many, many years, Lucarius had developed a love for Andrea Minesal, the daughter of his family’s close friends. After all, they had played together virtually since birth, and were there for each other through thick and thin. He thought their feelings were mutual, but soon after they were engaged, Andrea broke off the engagement with tears and not much explanation. Broken-hearted and devastated, Lucarius threw himself completely into the logging industry alongside his father. Just when he believed he was over his loss, three years later he caught himself thinking about Andrea again. The axe slipped. It sliced a gash in his hand in the shape of half a heart. That was his second breaking point.

Lucarius decided then that he no longer loved his hometown, and left to travel Anthos as a bard. He packed his few things and left one bright spring morning for an adventure that he supposed would take up the rest of his life.

He occasionally experiences flickers of regret at deserting his family and friends, but justifies it by telling himself that “I needed this. There was nothing more for me there.”

Ambitions for the Future: Due to the recent rejection by his childhood friend and fiancé, Lucarius resolves to put to use his storytelling abilities and also do the travelling that he has always longed for.

Personality: Lucarius tends to keep to himself and is usually absorbed in his thoughts as he travels Anthos. He may seem extroverted enough as he performs his ballads, but it is merely a façade that he utilizes to seem more amiable and thus collect the money he needs for food. Lucarius will open up if you know him for long enough, but his constant meandering makes that unlikely. He’s a wanderer at heart, still scarred by his rejection.

Because he is usually alone on his travels, Lucarius is prone to talk to himself. As a result, he is often mildly surprised when others around him respond to his musings.

Skills: Lucarius’ best skill is certainly the combination of his memory and wit, passed down from his Southeron mother, which led him to his journeys across Anthos as a travelling bard. He is fairly skilled with his voice and his lute, though he prefers to speak his tales rather than sing them. He has average strength due to over ten years of work in the logging industry with his father, but he has not trained further in this area since he left his hometown. He is not a talented swordsman, nor with any other weapon for that matter, only enough to defend himself when the need arises. For this reason, he certainly would rather talk his way out of a potentially dangerous situation.

Appearance (this must include an in-game screenshot of your skin): While he possesses his mother’s sharp mind, Lucarius takes after his father with light skin and a sturdy appearance. He is of average human height and weight, about 5’9” and 165 lb. He sports a ragged mop of brown hair and a small beard that he believes makes him appear older than he is. He has a scar shaped like half a heart on his left hand from an accident with an axe three years back. Lucarius wears dark pants, a bright blue shirt and his favorite brown vest, the inside pockets of which are stuffed with several papers containing scribbled lines to ballads, witty rhymes and comebacks, and miscellaneous notes to himself.

Any other details you wish to share about your character:
When surprised, suspicious or quizzical, Lucarius tends to raise his eyebrows.

When annoyed, he purses his lips and folds his arms.

    Open-Response-Questions
Each question in this section must be answered with a minimum of one paragraph which must describe the event in full. Please be as descriptive as possible and do not break character or lore at any point.
    ____

    1. Whilst in the mighty human capital you notice a dark-clothed figure stealthily making his way towards the Emperor’s palace - he is clearly up to no good. There are guards within shouting distance - what do you do?

    Answer:
    *raises eyebrows*
“I’m sure his intentions aren’t all that honorable,” I quip.
    *I stop walking*
“The taverns can wait, this should be interesting.”
*I glance over at the guards, who are laughing over some joke.*
“Whose in-ten-shins?” a man next to me must have overheard my remark.
*points to the figure, who is just about to disappear inside the palace.*
“Him. I wouldn’t say he’s there to discuss the weather over a mug of ale with His Highness the Emperor, if you take my meaning.”

The man looks at me quizzically. “Don’ you think you should… do sumpthin about it?”
    *shrugs*
“What overconfident criminal waltzes up to the palace in broad daylight to do his dirty deeds?”
    “Hm. You’re right.”
*hears shouting from in the palace*
*I see the man fly out of the palace and tumble down the stairs.*
“What a terrible idea,” I muse, chuckling.
“You’re inter-sting, you know that?” the man asks. “Good wif words an’ the like.”
“Thank you,” I say as I walk off towards the tavern. “I can probably write up a tale about this…” I say to myself afterward. “An incompetent criminal- that should bring a lot of laughs.”

    2. Whilst wandering in the deep oak forest you come across a large clearing, in which sits a small cobbled cottage. Outside it stands an unstable old man armed with a small iron blade, surrounded by two heavily armed bandits - they appear to be threatening him. You are armed with leather armour and an iron longsword, how do you react?

    Answer:
My mind races, trying to find a way to preserve both myself and that old man. Obviously, I can’t fight off two bandits, regardless of their armor. That’s given. I’m no expert with a sword, after all. There isn’t an option here that doesn’t involve some risk…

*I take a deep breath, running through some dialogue in my head*
*I walk up to the bandits, a grin on my face*
“By Jove, Samuel, is that you?” I bellow. “Long time no see, my friend!”
*The bandits turn around, puzzled looks on their faces.*
Unfortunately, they’re even more intimidating up close. It takes all I have not to start shaking with fear.
“You talkin’ to me?” one of the bandits asks.
“Who else, Sam, who else? How long’s it been? Five, six years? My, how time flies!”
“Look, I ain’t Samuel. Never seen you ‘fore in my life.”
“Oh, please, don’t give me that. You mean you don’t remember your old friend Balandir?”
I’m starting to get nervous. The bandit stares at me intently as I try to keep up the fake grin.
“You mixin’ me with someone else,” he insists at last.
“No way,” I persist. “You mean to say you’ve forgotten all that business with the halflings? That was the best!”
    *I laugh, but stop*
    “No?”
“No. Look, whoever you are, back off,” the second bandit warns. “We’s busy.”

They start to turn back, and the old man finally takes his chance. He slashes at the joint between the first bandit’s helmet and chestplate, knocking him to the ground with a profusely bleeding neck. In the meantime, the second bandit batters down the old man’s defenses.
    *I draw my own sword.*
“I really didn’t want to do this,” I grimace.
*I crouch and swing the blade into the back of the second bandit’s knees.*
It has practically no effect, but it provides enough of a distraction that the old man stabs at a chink in the back of the second bandit’s armor.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t quick enough. The bandit’s sword swipes across my right hand.
    *I drop my sword, screaming.*
I am going to die, I think. Then the second bandit falls to the ground, the old man’s sword stuck in his back.
    *raises eyebrows*
*sighs, breathing hard, still clutching bleeding hand*
    “Thank you, sir.”
“They been troublin’ me for the longest time,” the old man shakes his head. “Mightly lucky that you happen’ by when you did.”
    *I wince*
“You seem adept with your blade, couldn’t you have just fought them off?”
“They never comes with armor, ‘cept for today. That’s why I was ‘fraid.”
“I see. But the lions are laid to rest at last, and so I shall be on my way.”
“Oh, but your hand! And it be gettin’ dark, too- why don’ you stay wit me for the night?”
“I can’t pay you- I’m just a travelling bard, I have no money to speak of.”
“That don’ matter to me,” the old man grins. He is missing several teeth. “You be fine.”
    “Many thanks, sir.”
After relieving the bandits of their armor, weapons and extorted money, the old man beckons me inside to some stew and a sleeping mat near the fire. It’s not much, even with 37 more minas in my bag, but I’m grateful.

    3. You are standing within the mighty human capital when you notice a small man standing behind a colourful stall. You approach the stall and notice that the man is selling a variety of general goods - he says that he is selling just about anything and that he has no set prices. He is willing to allow you to haggle and choose prices. What do you do? (Explain: your haggling, items of choice and the discussion that happens).

    Answer:
    *walks up to the stall*
“You have just about everything, eh?”
“Thaaaaat’s right, young man! I’ve got weaponry galore, the finest the capital has to offer! I can replace that dingy old longsword of yours with one much better- and you get to pick the final price!”

    *raises eyebrows*
“I like my longsword as it is, thank you. But tell me, sir, what do you have in the way of tales? Ballads, books, that sort of thing.”
“Oh, so that’s your interest, eh? I must admit I had you pegged as a military man, a mercenary perhaps.”
“I do my combat with my tongue, thank you very much,” I quip with a grin. “My wit is much sharper than my sword, and I’m easily twice as adept with it… let me see what you have.”
“Oh, I have quite the selection, my good man. Histories, battles, religion… romance.” He winks at me.

The merchant brings out a variety of books, and two of them in particular catch my eye.
*I point at the ones I want*
    “How about these?”
“Ooh, now that is a fine book, a fine one indeed. Chronicles of the Undead, a fine read. The Wandering Wizard Revealed, too. Good choices, my good man.”
    *I nod*
“How about the price?” I ask.
He scratches his head, as if deep in thought. “These are antiques, you know,” he claims. “Passed down from generation to generation, I was told. Books of such value… I’d have to say at least two thousand minas for the both of them.”
    *raises eyebrows again*
“You’ve got to be joking. I wouldn’t pay a quarter of that.” I don’t even have a quarter of two thousand minas- just the spare change I keep in my bag. Sixty-two, last I checked.
“What do you take me for, a fool? I tell you, they’re worth much more than five hundred! Tell you what, young man, I’ll settle for seven-fifty minas.”
“He who asks an impossible price for his wares, that is a fool indeed,” I retort. “From their condition, they’re not even worth a hundred minas.”
“You must be joking! But I concede, I offer five hundred minas. That should be affordable for a strapping young man such as yourself.”
“Flattery only flattens yourself, you know. Fifty minas.”
    “Two-fifty!”
“Sixty-two minas.” That was a bad decision, I realize. An odd number like that is a telltale indicator of my total assets.
The merchant’s eyes narrow. He picked up on that, all right. “Now, what do you mean by coming to my stall without enough in your pocket to pay for any merchandise?”
“I probably could have pocketed those books easily enough without paying,” I lie. “Count yourself lucky that I was willing to bargain.”
“Me lucky? Oh, there’s the rub. Not only are you too poor to pay, but you would steal from me?”
“Calm down, sir,” I try to fix things, but it seems that I only made the situation worse.
“Get out of here,” the merchant bellows, “and I don’t want to see your sorry face again! Now! Shoo!”
*I hurry off, embarrassed, hoping that the spectacle didn’t attract too much attention*

Well, I may have to consign Patchwork Islands to the dust heap of obscurity. I guess it can't really hold its own among the better maps out there. 250 downloads doesn't really cut it. I may update it eventually, but considering that I've gotten little to no feedback, I'm about ready to give up.

posted a message on [SURV] ZomBeatBox 1.2 - Unique Zombie-Punching Action! [1200+ downloads!]
As several other people have said, the kicker that made this map so incredible is the innovative concept. I played this map for several hours with the intention of exploring everything (rather than generally surviving.) As I found when my brother played through it later, I failed miserably, considering that I missed several species of zombies which he subsequently found :P That gives you several points anyway, for thinking up 70+ different kinds of zombies. But besides the concept and variety, I loved the Aperture Science-esque humor and other snarky remarks, not to mention the story, that took the edge off of the repetitive bashing of zombies- plus the well-designed XP shop.

If I were to make one complaint on an otherwise fantastic map, I didn't really appreciate the swearing in the journals. I understand the emotions you were trying to convey, but it doesn't seem to fit with the overall theme of the map.

That said, great job with everything else. This map should have more rep than it does, let's keep it up on the first page!

Patchwork Islands is officially updated to Version 1.1, with Minecraft 1.5 items and several new features! From three new custom villagers to an island of creepers and TNT, not to mention a bunch of small changes to make things run more smoothly, Patchwork Islands is definitely better than before.

As usual, I'm still open to suggestions, whether for new content in Version 1.2, or to point out a bug I may have missed, or general thoughts and criticism. I want Patchwork Islands to become a great map, and I can't do that by myself.
NOTE: I forgot to set the time before I set the updated map up on Mediafire, so it's almost noon when the player enters. I'll fix this in the next version, but for now, think of it as a challenge.

    Best. Analogy. Ever.

I've tried this once, but found it a bit dull. Never finished it. I'm more of a Creative Mode person anyways.

Completely off topic, you know what would be freaking awesome? A server that emulates Dwarf Fortress in Minecraft. Everyone with different jobs and such.

    Quote from Laughing_Man16

Seeing as this part mentions me I'll keep my comments to this part.

I believe that he would ignore me because, well... The lessons of youth are best learned and most remembered, when learned the hardest way. When it comes right down to it it is his choice, and being an adolescent he will want to ignore the advice that doesn't push him quickly along the path he has already chosen.

It's reminiscent of Eureka Seven in my opinion. And the interplay between Renton and the various adult of the Gecko State, as well between Renton and Charles and Ray.

If you've never watched Eureka Seven I would strongly recommend it. To the OP and any one else reading this. It's a wonderful Sci-fi coming of age story. Of course if you haven't seen the show the above analogy won't make sense. But it's the best one I have, as FLCL doesn't fit this situation as well, seeing as that is more on the 'personal exploration and discovery' side of adolescence, as well as dealing with issues of self confidence.

Yeah, that's true. I see what you mean. If this turns out badly, hopefully he'll reconsider his stance.

Also, I can't say I'm currently looking for something else to watch, since I still have Merlin and Death Note to finish before Doctor Who comes back on at the end of the month; but all the same I'll stock Eureka Seven on my To Watch list. It sounds quite interesting.

posted a message on Gonna ask (hopefully) my first girl friend out using minecraft
Okay, so here are my thoughts. You are, as you said, 12 years old. You also said that this will "hopefully" be your first girlfriend. Laughing_Man, the guy who's said the most on here so far, is around 10 years older than you. So why are you ignoring him when he's suggesting to do it face-to-face instead of in a game? He obviously has experience with this type of situation. Seriously, you have to be open to people giving you advice. I can promise you that you will get hurt otherwise. Trust me, you can't run through life like that. As hard as it is to believe, neither you nor I nor any other teenager knows everything about life.

Second, in agreement with TheOtherDrew and Ricequake, I don't by any means agree with someone only 12 years old getting into this relationship mess. You only have so much time being single, and it's the only time in your life that you have to be free of the strong attachments that relationships bring. You should treasure it. I'm 16, and never been on a date, never had a girlfriend. I've had several opportunities to do so, certainly, but one of my other main motivations for turning them down is the impact it will have on my classwork. That's the other thing you have to consider. The attention and temporary happiness you'll have doesn't stack up to the future you can have if you focus on getting through school first. Just be careful, it's way easy to get distracted, and before you know it your grades have descended.

That's my deep spiel that, to be honest, not many people care about. It's 'not their style.' There are things they don't want to give up, and I don't really blame them. Relationships are pretty enticing. And, of course, this is my take. Sure, there are probably people who can manage grades and the attention demands of a relationship at once, but that's not a skill everyone has.

Long long story short, it's completely your choice what to do in this situation. However, as the saying goes, "Love is blind." Be careful.

posted a message on [CHALLENGE] The Wizard Challenge
Okay, so despite the (minimal) results of the poll, I've begun work on a quest-based adventure map that utilizes the concepts of wand combat and enhanced use of brewing from the Wizard Challenge. It will be called the Wizards of Cerimon, and though I don't have any idea when it will be finished, here are some things about it:

Just about everything you need will be traded from villagers, wizards in the small village you live on, via bottles of enchanting (or Magical Essence.) From a command-block system, you will exchange xp for Magical Essence, which you then trade to the villagers for various items important to the map.

Villager trades allow for some interesting multi-level crafting options. You will craft wands for battle by first combining a certain ancient artifact with a book, and then combining the resulting empowered artifact with an empty wand to create a complete wand.

No more checking the wiki over and over again! The potion masters of the village will sell codexes of brewing, which provide all the steps you need for combining ingredients into deadly or powerful potions!

The somewhat complex storyline will be told through a series of quest logs you receive at the beginning of the map. For each quest line, you will turn one page for each step. Unfortunately, this means that you will have to flip through a lot of pages when you close the book in some of the longer quest lines, but since the map is not linear, I can't use command blocks for communication. I haven't found a way to get around this.
