It's been more than 30 years since the author and the forum topic. And now, as then, a beast approaches. Patient and confident, savoring the meal to come. But this beast is made of letters and numbers... ...words and titles. An army of hyperlinks, vast beyond imagining, ready to devour the tiny community. Ready to snuff out the world's one hope for reason and justice. A beast approaches... ...and it was the Minecraft forum itself which provoked it.

I like your style, +1. Would read again. And did.

It's a shame that people choose to spam and advertise themselves here.

Anyway, I found this pretty fascinating. Perhaps others won't:

My question is when you do a Forum post. to make my own forum topic. Do i use HTML code to make the heading and topic and tabbed links like your post has?

I think it's BBCode, but if you want to see specifically what I did, you just hit quote on my reply and flick the light switch button on the upper left of the posting text box to turn on editing mode or something like that, which will let you see the actual code behind the format.

Unfortunately, No. The format of the code for the link is the exact same as all the previous ones. I'm fairly certain that the thread reached some link critical mass and can't handle any more. Some day the next time my interest is revived in minecraft I think I'll try to prune the list of stuff to get it more under control. I wish the forum would just not bug out like that...

If you want to get at those URL's, the only way is to try to reply to the thread by quoting the main post, which will allow you to see the naked URL inside the BBCode.

I think this is a great list. But I think either a new one be made, or have this one seriously filtered. A lot of things on here are pretty outdated or have been reinvented with way better designs.

I completely agree, however I don't really have to time to edit it personally like I once did. I don't follow minecraft very much anymore, don't read the forums really, and just don't know what is really outdated and what is just old. Some things will always be cool, like the architecture stuff.

I don't want this thread to become a relic of the forums, as it's over a year old now and I'm rather proud that I have committed to give it some degree of maintenance the whole period. I have decided to let the community edit it, and I'll just be the caretaker. Since no one ever posts suggestions or anything, then it slowly becomes more and more useless. It makes me sad, but I don't feel like dumping hours of whatever time I can give into a community that can't even be bothered to make a "I found this really cool thread >here<" post once a month let alone ever, but can do a "wow these links are old" or "someone should edit this" post and then look around expectantly for someone to do the work. I didn't mind doing it when I actively played, as it's really little more than a bookmark list with some formatting, but I'm not willing to donate time to a group of people too lazy to help themselves.

Either people don't care to have a thread like this, or they're lazy, but since there's 19 pages of mostly "wow this is cool" going on, I'm leaning toward simply lazy. The decayed state of this thread is a result of...

    You.

Bottom half of the post seems a bit mucked up :o (May just be may to be honest).

Massive credit to you for spending time on this, cheers!

Yeah, I'm aware. It got messed up after a forum update, and I suspect it's probably a forum limit to the number of links in a post or the amount of allowed BBCode because everything is formatted exactly the same as previous links in the post that work properly. I posted to get help from moderators and got no response at all, so yeah...

    that is just epic :D

Yeah, that is pretty awesome. Couple problems, it's unverified, and it's a game-breaking bug. Now, free diamond duplicators are undoubtedly cool, but it would probably be patched quickly as it hurts multiplayer. Thanks for the suggestion, please keep suggesting more!

    Simple minecart terminus
Very simple minecart station terminus, store one minecart on a loop, bring it out with a button, and launch or store it with another button. You have to shove the cart about a little to get it to go in the right direction if you bring it out and want to store it back, or arrive at the station and want to go back.

This is actually a pretty good intro video to minecarts. Couple problems here too, firstly being that the minecart is on a perpetual loop, in motion, until called. Back in the olden days when that was how activated boosters worked, minecart momentum values would cap out and just freeze the cart in place, breaking the system. It's far easier to have it go to a power rail against a wall, which when activated pushes it back to the player, plus being cheaper to build. Secondly, it's too basic to go on here, unfortunately. I'm not above linking tutorial type links, even basic ones, but you would have to make up for lack of awesome content with awesome presentation or being extremely informative. Thanks though, and keep posting suggestions!

I'm also aware that a lot of links on the first post are not accepting the BBCode since this forum maintenance, and since it's exactly the same format as the working links and there's not a mistake at the beginning of the broken links to screw up the nesting, then I'm going to assume it's their fault for now. Or, there's just a limit on the links in a post on this new format, whatever. I'll work on it later.

Yeah, a lot of the older links suffered during a forum migration a long time ago and left posts linking some youtube videos with just the youtube tag (in this case: TbkxvXEYsLA) that you can still find if you plug it into http:// . I should probably screen some of the older stuff because that's simply not that cool anymore since it's brain dead easy with pistons, but that is how we had to do it in the old days.

    Thanks for your compliments!

posted a message on Why the Hate on the USA?
Sometimes I'm ashamed of being American (this is probably why we are sometimes called America, as it's somewhat tough to say united statesian), other times I am glad to be here. We have a lot of very vocal minorities that give very weird impressions of us, such as the bible thumpers, the tea party crazies, and the crazed patriots. Most of our good leaders are in different industries because the government is just so mired in its own ****. The population is very disillusioned with the whole system, and even during the presidential elections voter turnout doesn't peak 60%, let alone the ~35% that show up for off-year senatorial/house elections. If you hate our government, you should see the assholes that line up for our government positions that we have to choose between.

I wouldn't say the government is corrupt so much as it is poorly led and drowns in its own bureaucracy. It's really tough for Congress to get anything done, which should be evident after we recently nearly had the government shutdown because the Republicans refused to compromise about tax hikes and raising the debt ceiling and the Democrats had to capitulate to all their demands. I mean seriously, what kind of government is willing to risk shutdown in order to get what it wants? Where are the adults? Every law that gets passed is filled with pork in order to bribe votes, and bipartisanship is practically dead as far as I'm concerned. It makes me laugh when Obama gets blamed for everything, considering his only true hard counter to get Congress to heel is the veto, and that's trumped by the two-thirds vote. Nobody listens to anyone else, and the only way anything gets done is when enough selfishness conveniently agrees on something enough to get it passed and proceed to go back at each others throats.

Anyone that votes makes decisions based on stupid things, like people's looks or whatever dirt others can dig up on them, as well as their overall "feelings" about candidates instead of important things like specific policy decisions etc. Case in point, the uproar over the "Obamacare" legislation proposed after they voted Obama in after he spent the entire campaign talking about how he was going to handle healthcare, and lo', amazing how that he actually meant what he said. When dumping money into TV spot ads predictably boosts your vote totals, you know that A. people are too damn stupid to follow the issues, so they need it spoon fed to them and B. that they can't handle thinking by themselves so they just go for whatever scare tactic hits closest to home for them.

Trust me, if you guys had political systems like ours is, you would be a little blase about it all too.

Hey, just found this thread from the dregs of the forums and just wanted to bump it for the acclaim it deserves.

I don't think the thread creator is maintaining the list anymore, but if you guys want your best work immortalized, I would be happy to link it in my thread that's on the Survival section (link in my signature). Lots of neat stuff I had missed on my own list! Cool!
