posted a message on Looking for mods that encourage movement/exploration
Call me crazy, but you know what one of my favorite moments was? Getting run out of my base by zombies. A creeper blew in the wall (and a primary light source) and zombies flooded in, forcing me to evacuate. I left the base behind to create a new one to regain strength so I would one day be able to retake the stronghold that I once called my own.....of course by then the zombies had despawned, but I liked having to move and adapt to dangers created in the enviroment around me. I want to experince this again, I'm sick of being safe and sound in my little base. I literally got a seed with an island, and I have had no reason to leave it. I had everything I could ever want on the island. I want more reasons to move around, and I don't want to end up with a super mega ultra omni base that I never need the leave the confines of since I have everything.

Hello, my IGN is Outkin and I'm a male aged 17.

I've been interested for a long time in finding a server I can settle down in, contribute to, and get to know every one. I end up server jumping alot since I haven't had a lot of luck finding where I fit best. I want to try out a realm instead since the people there won't change very often or only active people will be on since you have a limited whitelist. However to be honest, my time spent in minecraft can vary greatly. I can have an 8 hour marathon, or get hooked on other games, go outside(GASP), and I also have a job to worry about which can eat of alot of my time. I will do my best to make an effort to log in when I can, and if it doesn't work out, I can surrender my whitelist slot.

I am aware that you are able to customize gear on a mob if they are able to equip it, and apply effects to them, but is there a way to make mobs causes effects on the player? EG: Zombie that poisons you.

I wanted to mess around with my realm world offline, but didn't understand how to use the file they gave to me when I downloaded one of the backups. How do I use them?

Enderpearl thrown as I went down. Look shabby, but I lived in the end.

This actually doesn't require command blocks, or even creative if you want to start it later on.

I've seen more compact and simple designs as well, but you get the idea.

And if that fails, there's always programs like xpadder that allow you to turn buttons into keystokes (A is space bar (jump) up is W (foward) etc.)

Open your launcher, and click the edit profile button in the bottom left corner. The second area will have an option for which version to use, switch it to whatever your heart desires. Save profile, and click play!

To take it a step further, you could create additional profiles that allow you to switch between versions just by clicking the drop down menu. Simply click new profile, give it a name at the top (1.7.4 for example) and switch it to the correct version. You can even change the directory to save it in a different place, allowing you to keep your worlds, textures, and servers separate.

You need to take one more step if you want forge however. It installs it's own unique profile when you install it, so why did I just tell you all this? Because you need to install the version of minecraft it applies to first. EG: Forge for 1.7.4 requires you to have played 1.7.4 at least once.

From what I've been able to determine, it seems that almost any mod will not run on 1.7.9 right now. Part of the reason appears to be that Forge must be installed and it so far is not compatible with .9 So, now what? I've seen suggestions of downgrading to a lower version of MC, but a couple of questions. First, what will this do to my saved game, and secondly, What will be different in MC? I don't play online so if that's an issue, I'm good.

    All answers very appreciated.

    Thanks

    TL:DR: You are fine.

You can see what sort of changes will occur based off the digit

    1.7.9

First digit: Major changes/Milestones. The transition between beta and release for example
Second digit: New features, blocks etc. added. The new world generation is an example of this
Third digit: Minor tweaks and bugfixes.

Basically things barely change between 1.7.2 say and 1.7.9 since it was minor stuff. You cannot join a server will a different 2nd digit, and some servers can be dependent on the last number, but it depends on the version and server it's self, but you said that doesn't matter. You will not lose any features, but may see some old bugs to pop up (like texture glitches on doors and beds)

However, if you want to switch between bigger versions that's a different story. Upgrading it fine for the most part, but when you generate new chunks you may notice a sudden border as the generation changes. The new chunks will be filled with new mobs biomes and loot that was present in the new updates however. You may also experience a change in biomes if the world is really old though, and if it's too old (we're talking ancient, like, alpha) it may not open at all.Downgrading may present issues. Blocks mobs and features may disappear outright (your pet sheep franks loses his name and your horse disappears), and loading new chunks will have border issues and be missing new loot and mobs. I've also heard of world corruption in some cases.

posted a message on Enchantment: Awareness.
One minor thought, perhaps the detection area could differ depending on the tool? This would allow the sword enchantment to still alert you early enough to be useful, while the pickaxe is kept in check in terms of power.

I don't think Rei's minimap shows underground caverns.

Try the X-ray mod. (It's not a map, but useful.)

Rei's definitely maps caves. However, this functionality is disabled on servers. Also, you will not be frowned upon for using Rei's minimap (since it disables features like that in multiplayer) but you will be frowned upon for x-ray, possibly banned even,
