posted a message on First Mod: The Art of War [WIP.... the title is too]
I'm about to start creating my first minecraft mod. The premise is strongholds belonging to different factions, which will send out patrols and periodically launch major attacks on each other, possibly capturing the enemy stronghold. You can gain and lose favor with the two factions, which start out neutral. Picture millenaire and RPG mobs with a touch of Tale of Kingdoms.
Ideally the finished product would have castles you can own and expand, barracks where you can train troops which you can have follow/patrol/garrison, etc.

Sounds ambitions, I know. Before you write me off I do have experience with Java and I've moded Fable, Mount&Blade, and a few other games.

The first step in this mod is creating the garrisoned strongholds which will spawn a few dozen more troops at regular intervals that will automatically, as a group, attack the nearest enemy castle. I'm probably going to make a specific map that is necessary for this mod, later I will set up the castles to randomly generate.

    My questions are:
Will cannibalizing code from other mods get me in trouble, even if I give them credit?

Is pathfinding to specific areas >40 blocks away difficult for mobs, and is setting distant destinations for AI even possible to code?
If so, does it have to be to specific coordinates?

Has anyone managed to create groups/squads for NPCs (If yes could I just set the agression distance for spawned armies to ~100 blocks to answer the previous question?)?

......Is there a guide somewhere that will answer all these?

Any other comments, concernes, advice, offers to help?

posted a message on Minecraft Map Maker
[REQUEST] I'm looking for a flat-ish map. Something that's just much flatter than normal minecraft, but it still has hills, forests, and some water. I'm tired of having to flatten out areas to build, but there's something about the completely 2D custom maps that are just depressing.

    I would be eternally greatful

    Thanks!

P.S. I might not need a custom map for this; If it was possible to fill in an ocean with dirt that would be great. Not all the oceans, I mean a mod that would let me fill in one. Thanks!

I want modloader for 1.7 NOW.

Dudes, how about a please? These modders aren't getting paid here, they do it for fun. We're not really in the place to make demands.

No. It hasn't been updated to 1.7 yet. Wait a day or two until it is updated. Risugami is probably working on it now :]

I saw on another thread (can't find it now) that it may be possible to update modloader ourselves? If so, how would one do that?

Yes, I'm addicted to minecraft, I can't wait a day or two. Go ahead, rub it in.
