Ok fixed my issue.
Check if you are running 32 or 64 bit install.
If you are running 64 bit, you need to actually find the 64 bit download over on the java page, due to the default being the 32 bit, which will spit that error at you.
Yeah, so what about me, a 32 bit user, who has up-to-date java software and system software and still gets this message every time I try to do something with minecraft. I can't even open it.
