posted a message on [1.6.X] Portal Gun - Reconstructed [v1] - Rewritten... again.
If anyone wants to try it, I made an adventure map style Portal Testing Facility/failed obstacle course playground.

    viewtopic.php?f=1034&t=329514

I tried to have it make as much in-series sense as possible, while staying away from Portal's storyline.

posted a message on [Portal] Portal: Side Story [Adventure-based]

There has been no indicator that anything happened recently. You wake up, and testing begins.

Don't expect some epic rage-against-the-machine fanfiction plot, it's pretty much staying the hell alive. I have no desire to rewrite Portal's storyline, I like it too much. That said, this does have its' own plot, and I tried to have it make as much sense as possible while not interfering in canon.

    -------------------------------------------
    Notes:
I made this completely by accident. Yes, I did not intend for this to be an actual map. When I started, I was making a small obstacle course playground for myself and got sidetracked. Because of this, it is located in a randomly generated map, although you wouldn't know this while playing it. Attribute any random ambience to the Facility and GLaDOS being batshit insane.

Also, do not use the Portal based texture packs. I made this in Painterly as a playground, not expecting to go overboard and build a facility, so it's pretty incompatible with those packs.

    -------------------------------------------

    Rules:
[*:y7nmrgkw]Play on peaceful. I don't know if it's dark enough for spawns, but may as well be safer.
[*:y7nmrgkw]Don't break blocks unless instructed to via sign, or it's stupidly obvious you're supposed to. I think those only happen once each, respectively.
[*:y7nmrgkw]Take only one of each, there are extras of everything at or nearby the first location in case of death (unless you have a bad tendency to throw your Portal Device into grids).
      [*:y7nmrgkw]Change settings as directed below.
[*:y7nmrgkw]Go Zen and think outside the box for some of them. I mean really Zen in some cases. No map is impossible.
[*:y7nmrgkw]Above said, please tell me if you find anything broken or any holes leading outside the facility or to redstone wires. I went through this damn map at least 4 times in a row, each time convinced I messed something up while resetting it from the previous round.

    [path/to/directory]/.minecraft/mods/mod_PortalGun.properties Settings:
    Points of importance:
      [*:y7nmrgkw]gridMode = 2
      [*:y7nmrgkw]gunMode = 2 ## not required, but I find it simpler
      [*:y7nmrgkw]hepMode = 1
      [*:y7nmrgkw]gunRespawn = 1 ## 1 for standard/normal mode, 0 for pain-in-the-ass-if-I-die mode
[*:y7nmrgkw]dualPortals = 1 ## makes it easier to land on one
      [*:y7nmrgkw]unportalbleID = 49, 35, 20 ## You can't portal onto obsidian, glass and white wool

    Texture Pack:
Again, don't use the Portal texture packs. I built this by mistake, so they make it pretty unplayable in some cases, and destroy the mood in others. How/why? Yeah.

    Required mods:
[*:y7nmrgkw]iChun's Portal Mod (and prerequisite Modloader v3 and Audiomod). It's really not hard to install if you are capable of reading.

So... are you going to rename this mod to "Better Than Achievements?" I mean, they did just update their game without your consent.

posted a message on [CAVES] Cave Labyrinth; Pumpkins; Irony
    Seed: -2349324023411
Spawn: -86, 64, 63 (13 pumpkins somewhere near this spot, by some trees)
Caves around the mountain area at -84, 70, -0.5

Almost-massive cave system (I've seen larger, but this is in the higher rankings). I went in horribly unprepared, and spent about half my expedition trying to figure out where the hell I was. It's like a maze down there. It almost goes down to bedrock, no dungeons as far as I could see though. You'll note the lack of a sword or armor -- my computer is way too laggy lately, so I had to turn it on peaceful. Pros and cons at bottom.

Tons of waterfalls. As you can see, it's very easy to mix them up and get lost.

Bring signs. I spent a full half hour going in circles trying to get back up from this area. Hint: it really helps to bring two full stacks of sticks for torches/picks.

The caves are crawling with coal and iron. Decent amount of redstone too.

Seriously, screw these waterfalls. They make it too easy to get lost.

You would think that it would be harder to get lost once the water is replaced by lavafalls. Spoiler: It's not.

    Total Haul:

Not shown: Screenshot of the 13 pumpkins where I found them (they were near my spawn point, by some trees); 64 coal used to smelt iron and gold; around 24 iron used for picks and compass.

Pros: Great to explore, tons of passages and interconnecting areas. If you have a faster computer than mine has been lately, there should be a ton of monsters around there. Lots of coal and iron, good amount of redstone. Also has the largest amount of pumpkins I've seen in one spot to date.

Cons: I don't think I missed exploring any caves, so, as you've probably noticed, NO FREAKING DIAMOND that entire trip. It's worth exploring it just to laugh at how unlucky that was. No apparent dungeons either, but I may have missed a few side branches.

posted a message on [NAT MAP][CAVES]Nice Random Map Seed
Figured I would share this, I thought it was a great map. Found it while playing around with the random number gods. Couldn't find a seed thread to share it, or maybe I'm just being blind.

It has massive amounts of early-game coal (mainly at an open-ground stone/coal quarry I spawned on), a bunch of caves nearby (at least one leading to an enormous cave system that probably goes several routes to bedrock, I've been at it for over a day and still haven't been able to explore it all), and almost 2 stacks of clay right by where I spawned (not shown in pics). Map reverted to original state, minus my inventory and random torches I had placed earlier. No clue why.

    Seed: 8874335602228030383
    Spawn: 0, 64, 0

Spawned at quarry. Having game issues atm so I can't take any more screenshots of the area; not shown - smallish mountain and clay deposits directly past quarry, plus lots of trees. Desert biome to left. An excellent spot to throw a roof over it and have a quick base.

Hole in ground. Hills/mountains in background. Ignore the boar.

Running into nonstop coal and iron on the way down. Thought there was a zombie dungeon from the number I was running into, but it was just coincidence.

A route almost directly down, buttloads of resources on the way. So far that vein in the background is the only lapis I've seen though.

Thought I had explored it all, went down to get the iron and coal and saw obsidian out of the corner of my eye.

And found water, leading to a waterfall, leading to an entire other bloody cave system.

    Starting to ignore coal.

And at this screenshot my game fizzed out and stopped saving them (ignore system time, laptop battery is screwed up).

Not shown: two massive caverns that branch off into even more caves, and another waterfall that leads directly down even further to more caves.
