tree's can begin forming branches at 6 blocks high but are more common at 8+ blocks high. if you dont want branches build a block 9 above the sapling (room for 6 wood 2 leaf) this makes it easier to harvest
however if you prefer big tree's that branch out you can build a small platform 3-4 blocks high that surround where the tree will grow, this forces the tree to grow above the platform and usually gives branches. by planting more saplings at different spots inside a grown tree and forcing them to grow large can result is MASSIVE trees

im talking about the big trees with forks in em and branches, i havent seen trees like them in the wild, i've only seen them when i hit a sapling with bone meal. Im not talking about the regular big trees with random bits of wood thrown around either they look real
idk if anyone's talked about this yet but has anyone noticed the giant epic trees you get now when u plant saplings?
i dont have a screenshot but they look crazy realistic and have branches begging for a tree house to be built in there perfect forks.
