Perhaps all floating chunks of blocks should fall down, except for a special block (obsidian?) that can be used to make floating things. Floating islands would need obsidian veins to stay afloat.
This sounds awesome. Imagine mining the last chunk of obsidian, and having the whole damn island plummet into the sea. Also, trees that fall over when you chop them down?
1) Select your 99 stone blocks
2) Go stand near the edge of a cliff
3) Mash Q repeatedly
4) ???
5) Epic win
The above applies only to indev. I just realized you were likely talking about plain survival mode, in which case following those directions will result only in fail.
Something like this might be good for creative mode. In survival though, if you want big crazy structures spiraling into the sky, you'd better be willing to risk life and limb to build them.
I agree. Right now, you can still see well enough at even the darkest darkness level that torches are more of a convenience than a necessity. It should be pitch black in areas where no light penetrates.
Distressingly though, Notch has said that dynamic lighting will be toggle-able via the options menu. This leads me to believe that he intends for darkness to be merely an atmospheric element of the game, rather than a serious game play mechanic. After all, what is the point of skulking in darkness, or building a lightless maze to thwart your opponents, if they can just turn dynamic lighting off and have a clear view of everything?
While the inventory system might be exclusive to survival (not sure), I'm sure that dynamic lighting, the new sound engine, and the new map generation options will be available for creative mode. I imagine fire will also be available for creative mode in a non-destructive, non-spreading form.
You can set yourself on fire, jump into water to extinguish yourself!
Frog girls can catch fire, though there is no animation for it.
Fire will cause TNT to explode.
You can snuff fire out by clicking it.
Floating deep hell islands are ridiculously awesome. I do think hell shouldn't have live trees and grass in it though. Perhaps it should start out with barren earth and leafless trees.
