posted a message on The Shining - Overlook Hotel

Allow me to explain some of those things. I purposefully left some areas dark for a couple reasons, one to give them more of a spooky feel, and two because the Torrances probably wouldn't have left all the lights on. I just figured it'd be kind of neat. Also with the exterior, it's basically impossible to fit the whole thing inside of that because of the inconsistencies with the set in the actual film. It wasn't rushed really, I took my time with that, but it wasn't something that could have been avoided really. You're not supposed to go back there anyway, I made sure to close off that part of the map so the only way to get there is by flying.

Wow, I really like it, your maze is definitely a lot better than mine! I sort of rushed that part.

posted a message on The Shining - Overlook Hotel
    Greetings!
Have you seen the 1980 movie The Shining? If so, then you must remember the hotel, the Overlook Hotel to be exact. Well, that thing always fascinated me, so I became inspired to create a full scale replica of it in Minecraft! I suppose I'm not the first, I saw a video of someone else's version, but to be honest I think it sucked. I tried to get mine as accurate as possible.

    Comments are greatly appreciated!

    Here are some screenshots.

    The exterior.

    Another view of the exterior.

    The lobby.

The Colorado Lounge. I made it a little too wide, but it's not a big deal.

Another view of the Lounge. (Updated ceiling)

    The Gold Room.

The Red Bathroom, with working mirrors :D

A view of one of the hallways, complete with that trippy iconic carpet pattern. Well, the best you can do in Minecraft, at least.

    Another hallway view.

    Staff quarters hallway

    The kitchen

    The Hedge Maze

That's about it. I also built the manager's office, games room, room 237, and plenty of other hallways but didn't bother to take screenshots of them. There are also a couple of easter eggs I'm sure you'll be happy to find c:

Other important things: I want to give special thanks to Bryant Arnett. Even though I don't know him personally, he went to the trouble of mapping out the ENTIRE hotel and making it into a Duke Nukem level. I used that as my main reference, and it couldn't have helped more. Download it here: http://www.theshinin...om/download.htm
Also, I welcome anyone to turn this into an adventure or survival map. But if you do, I request one thing, PLEASE give me credit for being the one who actually built the map, and it'd be nice to provide a link to this page. That's all I ask.

    Enjoy your stay!

Started it. Just finished mapping it out 2 days ago. I have the hedge maze, lobby, and Gold Room completed. Might be done in a month or two, as long as I don't lose the incentive to work on it every day (which I might)

I don't know if you know or not, but someone else already made one. But there are two things wrong with it. One, there's no download link. Two, it kind of sucks. It's like they just took all the rooms and threw them into the building, and they don't even look right. I'm actually trying to get the layout accurate as well. Wish me luck :D

P.S. Most of the first floor is as detailed as possible, but I'm gonna go a little slack on the second floor. Just a few hallways, and of course the area around the caretaker's quarters. The second floor is mostly empty anyway. Also matching everything up with the exterior is a bit of a b*tch, but I'll manage.

    Maybe this will help?

I have absolutely no knowledge on coding, so I wouldn't know if it's good or not.

I think it's a good idea, in fact, I think I'll download it. I don't really care for the new texture.

posted a message on .minecraft folder is mostly emty
I need help, all that's in my .minecraft folder is the bin folder and lastlogin, so I can't play it. I've tried re-downloading it, and that didn't work.

If I try to play offline, the option is greyed out and it says "(Not downloaded)". But if I log in, it asks me if I want to update. If I click not now, it just goes to a black screen. If I click yes, it tries to update but stops and says "launch failed" and gives some error. So does anyone know anything I can do to get it working again?

posted a message on Minecraft won't run anymore, a little help please?

Okay, on one of my computers Minecraft won't run at all anymore.(On the other one it's fine) But on this one it used to be I had to run it off of a flash drive for it to work, which was all fine and dandy. However, now when I try to open it up it says "Error, cannot run the java virtual machine"

I tried re-installing java, that didn't work. So I looked up some solutions, and out of all of them only one worked at all and that was putting some javascript code into notepad and saving it as minecraft.bat, then when I open that up it opens some sort of command thing for a few seconds and then the Minecraft launcher comes up. However, it still won't work. If I try to play offline, the option is greyed out and it says "(Not downloaded)" which is weird... So if I log in, it works and asks me if I want to update. If I click not now, it just goes to a black screen. If I click yes, it tries to update "Launch failed" and gives an error.

What I've noticed is that in my .minecraft folder for some reason now only contains "bin" and "lastlogin". Everything else is gone, and I'm not sure why. I think this may be the cause of the problem, but I'm not sure how to fix it.
