Packard-Bell do some nice ones with decent-ish integrated gfx chipsets (around 256MB when I got mine back in 2008).

Integrated = Absolutely crap, worse than absolute crap, **** stains all over the back of your legs crap, just SHITE. I could get better graphics by throwing a hamster against a wall repeatedly and swinging a cat against a cactus.

Anyway, Build your own PC, it costs half as much, or even less... is much more reliable, the parts you will be getting will be better, and you will be able to maintain it better. It also takes very little skill, just the ability to read an instruction manual and put things where they were designed to go.

    Holy hyperbole Batman!

You guys ever think about how the OP doesn't know how to put together a computer, doesn't want to learn or doesn't want the spend a money on the risk they are getting the right parts? It is pretty easy to do the research, but it is still research amongst thousands of computer parts. That is a lot of assumed knowledge.

Dell makes somewhat decent computers. The preinstalled software is crap, but most is. If you live in a big city, you can find a local college shop that puts together custom built PCs for the customers. There are computer companies on the web that will do the same thing. Google 'custom computers' and that will get you started.

That Dell computer will do fine. You can get more powerful for cheaper with a bit of research, but you take the support hit (assuming you get the support option with the Dell). If you approach the Dell purchase as something average in gaming power but it will do fine for 2-3 years with quite a few games, you won't have any problems.

posted a message on Poll: Do you even HAVE a mob farm?
Yes. I make mob traps out of dungeons that I find. They are simple mob drowning traps. The main thing I use them for is getting bonemeal and arrows. I think zombies should drop something different than feathers, and I have too much string.

Congrats on the 3rd vid. It is looking much better. This episode could be named "Creepers gonna creep....then blow up!" Honestly, I had fun watching that one...very entertaining.

I don't know what Video editing software you have, but if you can, maybe do some 'audio normalization' on the face video or play around with the audio levels more. I like hearing the in game sounds but at the height of the adrenaline my eardrums did get bit overloaded.

When I am making square/rectangle type rooms I typically do a varied level ceiling. It would be like this:

:stone: :stone: :stone: :stone: :stone: :stone: :stone: :stone: :stone:
:stone: :stone: :stone: [] [] [] :stone: :stone: :stone:
    :stone: :stone: [] [] [] [] [] :stone: :stone:
    :stone: [] [] [] [] [] [] [] :stone:
    :stone: [] [] [] [] [] [] [] :stone:
    :stone: [] [] [] [] [] [] [] :stone:

with the closest to the floor portion being 3 blocks between, with the highest having 5 in between the floor.

I like that. Vaulted ceilings. I am so doing that on my next house.

Another option is to place a fence (or whatever) block so it lines you up with the door.
    Top View:
    :cobblestone: :cobblestone: :Logs^: :cobblestone: :cobblestone:
    [] :_: [] :Glass:
Where :Logs^: is the steel door, :_: is the button on the wall, :Glass: is the block that lines you up with the entrance. Press the button, walk right in - no bumping on the sides while the door closes. Not as elegant as a fancy redstone circuit but very simple and works well.

I've used the T flip flop circuitry too. It is fun to do.

posted a message on [POLL] Worst Looking Block in Default Texture Pack?
Glass. That is the first thing I changed about a week after owning Mineraft. Until about a month ago I used the default, then I needed clay and was ticked that I couldn't see it unless I was right on top of it. And in some cases I needed to mine it before I knew it was clay. It looks to much like smoothstone to me. So now I use a modified version of Painterly so the clay block is red.

posted a message on Branch mining 20 blocks?
My branch mines are 100 blocks in length, I mean the finger parts are. I put torches every 10 blocks. Yeah it's a bit of overkill, but it makes for easy counting when looking back.
    :--+: [13] [12] [11] [10] [9] [10] [11] [12] [13] :--+:

The main corridors are 106 block long x 3 blocks wide. Useful for rails when a minecart system is put in.

OMG....Boxxy. About a week ago my curiosity was peaked enough that I went out to find out about this unknown thing. Gah! My brain nearly melted after watching about 1 minute of it. How pathetic to ***** themselves out like that.

Just finished watching your second vid. Quite well done despite some technical issues that are mentioned above. One reason I like watching amateur stuff like this is to see how quickly they grow and improve what they are doing. I liked the reactions to killing monsters, as you've said in your first vid that you usually play on peaceful. It will be interesting to see your reactions to other random things that happen because of mobs.

I'm thinking it may be better to use sockets instead of UDP or TCP straight on, as a socket takes out the need to know which route your taking through the pipes.

    Hmmmm.....

Using the physical layer of data packets I presume is what you mean? This means the server will only run in a specialized environment. One of the advantages of using TCP and UDP sockets is this can scale all the way from a single computer running SSP, to a Virtual Private Server (the current solution for SMP), to large scale deployments that people are speculating about in this thread. At least that was my direction of thinking, maybe I was way off base reading through the other replies.

posted a message on Furnace glitch :D
Notch has tweeted that in a future update the buckets will no longer be consumed in the furnace. That will make lava buckets slightly more useful. At least then if you have a whole bank of furnaces, you can make many stacks of sand and smoothstone without having to worry about fuel waste.

It really is shocking the number of people that seem to think adding more programmers will be beneficial to Minecraft.

And that's all that I am going to say about it. Continue the with Internet pillow fight.

posted a message on How many people should be working on minecraft?
    Back for another dip eh?

OK. Here is what I think. Notch is the creative soul behind Minecraft. He shows all the classic signs of that type of person: protective of his own idea, resistant to new ideas that aren't his, and shows disinterest in a project when it nears completion.

At this point, he should completely pass all development over to different programmers and he only be the creative lead - but only because I respect people for their prior work. If he still can't divorce himself mentally from Minecraft, then he should completely cut the strings and move onto something else like another game.

    That is all my opinion.

The perfect size for a programming team is 4. They can almost self manage themselves, but still need deadlines to focus their work unless they are already doing that. Beyond that, too many programmers is too much. Like the old saying goes "Too many cooks in the kitchen spoils the soup". Same applies to technical teams that don't directly complement each other.

Open Source projects notwithstanding. But the difference there is the timelines tend to stretch into multiple years.
