if i remember correctly coal can be used for torches as well as a burning source in the furnace instead of wooden planks where as charcoal is just for torches.
Charcoal can most certainly be used in lieu of coal in furnaces.
You say there's no goal, but I'm pretty sure the goal is to build, mine, and survive; after that, you do as you please.
It's as much of a "goal" as building your city in SimCity is a "goal".What he means is since there is no "win condition" there is no real objective, the game really is what you make of it. Hell no where does it state that mining is even necessary. Or even building a house.
The very first sign I put up in multiplayer was "mineshaft one". Wasn't censored and is still sitting there. Odd you can not.
That is because of the way the game does censoring, it looks for the specific word without extra characters. For instance "shafts" isn't censored either.
EDIT: To the above poster; with how tedious it is already to type on the xbox, why should I have to be troubled further, when the real issue is why the word shaft, which is used in abundantly when talking about mining is censored in the first place.

I've found roughly 40 diamonds using this method.

My bedrock mine is in a slime chunk and I hollowed out a large cavern. Almost without fail everytime I go down there are slimes.

How else am I to label my mine shafts?
