    Shotgun.

    They're just so epic.

Medieval, they had no shotguns in that time.

While this might be true, I've always fantasized having a sword just hanging on my wall :P

Erak had many from the Arulean ships he looted.

And actually, rereading that series is what inspired me to create this topic xD

Same here, but as to not get off-topic, I'd prefer me a good, well balanced sword. Doesn't have to be anything special, just able to cut down my enemies with ease.

Gorlog's beard, a good battleaxe is what you need. I'd say Erak would disagree with the whole sword shenanigans.

Someone's a Rangers Apprentice fan (like me) :P The correct answer is you shot him, and since you never miss, he gets killed.

But seriously, backed up against a cliff, with just a short throwing knife and a heavy knife (saxe) with a bow...its exactly like the scenario Gilan gave to Will and Horace in I believe the second or third book.

That's definately not where I got it from haha. That is actually the EXACT situation I was thinking of, and when I mentioned that heavier knife, the saxe knife is what I meant, and yes it's from book two: The burning Bridge

They actually did have battle scythes back then for war. They weren't used very often, however.

Thanks for telling me that :) I wasn't aware

    A scythe. Definitely a scythe.

    That would make my day.

Hmm I can't say I know enough to know if they had scythes for more than farming back then, but sure, a farmer under attack would probably have easy access to one.

A medieval flail is also a pretty cool weapon...

But I'm not strong enough to wield something that can match a battleaxe. Maybe I'd use a sturdy sword?

That's alright, say you were strong and experienced enough to wield any weapon. Which Medieval weapon would you choose, assuming you had the experience and strength to wield it.

Well, I'm talking in terms of looks, not actual combat. If it were to be actual combat, there's not really anything I'd be able to use.

Well think of it in terms of an armored knight hurdling towards you with a battleaxe :) then what?

Also please nobody say swords with any jewels at all, it unbalances the sword and draws attention to you. Eventually you would lose a challenge, along with your life and precious sword.

Medevil armour has a nice tendancy to yeild to bolts and arrows. Hurt, yes. Kill, probably. Crossbows/bows would be an excelent choice, if you have the patience.

That and imagine how deadly it would be if one was an expert archer AND swordsman? He could easily pick you off from a distance and then dispose of you once you got within 10 feet of each other.

    You win this round.

But back on topic, if it was just you and the raging knight with a battleaxe hurdling towards you, I think a crossbow bolt in the chest would hurt pretty bad.

What if someone swung the sword/battleaxe so hard that it wasent sticking out of them, but it went clean through???
Crossbows and bows are like the snipers of medevil times, they would be at some distance, Im sure.

Fair enough. But what if the enemy has archers? If armed with longbows, and they're trained well, they'll have the advantage because they can get more shots off than if armed with a crossbow, and then there's the problem of experience. A crossbow takes less practice because it's easier to aim and shoot. A long bow takes a lot longer to learn and by then the archer will be a lot more experienced than you. So, if in fact you do miss, no matter how far away you are, you would probably look like a porcupine if the enemy is sensible enough to use archers.

Also, if there are any faults in this, please correct me, just so that I know.

I would have to go with an Indian Crossbow. One drawback, one arrow, headshot. :D

What if you miss? You would have to go through a lot to reload the crossbow, and by then there would be a sword/battleaxe sticking out of you

So you have a bow with no arrows.

    Or a bowstring.
