I think that you should be able to put [music=*file here*] tags that play the Minecraft music repeatedly. Like, you could have [music=cat] and it would play Cat over and over repeatedly. Toggled by redstone, of course, but on by default.
Pigmen that wander in groups and attack passive mobs (except for pigs) on sight and leave you alone unless provoked. That, or humans that can be recruited into your army by giving them gold ingots. Or giants, which are already in the code but not in the spawn list.
You should add Ents in the next update. They could spawn only in certain biomes and be 5 blocks tall, spawning only on Grass and Leaves. Peaceful unless provoked. Drop Sticks, Leaves, Seeds, Saplings, both kinds of Flowers and Logs. They have 15 hearts of health, and deal 2 damage. Use this skin: http://minecraftskins.com/view/34076 http://minecraftskins.com/preview/both/9/34076
Also, try getting Humans and Giants to spawn. They're already in the game code, so it shouldn't be too hard.
I had an idea on how to implement Pigmen. They would just wander around the world at random, usually in small groups of about 5, and become hostile if provoked. They will also attack mobs that are hostile to you, except for Creepers. They will also attack Zombie Pigmen and humans (see below). Drop porkchops and sticks. Carry iron swords like Zombie Pigmen carry golden ones. Have 10-20 health.
I think there should also be humans. They'd fulfill the same role as Pigmen, but they can be recruited into following you by giving them gold ingots. They spawn in smaller groups of 1-3, and carry stone tools. They drop bread, a random stone tool and infrequently iron ingots. If you have wolves, they will also ride them, which would make for an awesome army. They have 10-20 health, same as Pigmen.
On that note, I think skeletons and spiders should have a 1/10 chance of becoming spider jockeys if they collide. You should also be able to ride your wolves, which would make for epic battles between you and your faithful hound, and an undead skeletal archer with their arachnid steeds.
