Excellent Post - Thank you for posting this. I would recommend all to read this. We put something similar in our TOS - Our TOS is in our ABOUT section and not hidden behind the "check box" on the check out screen

All persons who procure services are expected to have a higher degree of knowledge of computers, servers, the internet and how it functions. We will provide you with support on our equipment and our files 24/7 however we cannot be expected to know every mod, plug-in, program or software for every game, game server, web server or device in the world. That is the responsibility of the users of our services. We will help you on a "as time permits" schedule on any mod that you installed or want installed since it could take us away from our normal duties of maintaining the network and services for our clients. We make no guarantees, warranties implied or otherwise for this work, the mod, or it's effects since this is considered 'experimental" in nature as the software is not from a manufacture but usually a game or computer enthusiast.

posted a message on iptables and multicraft
    Quote from phatbobs

    Hi there people

I'm trying to get multicraft to work with iptables.
I have a dedicated server running the daemon and a separate webserver running the panel (listens on 25464).

My problem is the daemon can't connect to the remote mysql database and throws out errors when using the iptables config.
When the iptables is off it all works so there's nothing wrong with my configs for multicraft.

    I've whitelisted 25464 and 3306(mysql remote)

    Here's my iptables:
    #!/bin/sh
    # ip address of server
    #(example)
    SERVER_IP="10.10.10.100"
    # flush rules
    iptables -F
    iptables -X
    # default filter policy
    iptables -P INPUT DROP
    iptables -P OUTPUT DROP
    iptables -P FORWARD DROP
    # allow unlimited traffic on loopback
    iptables -A INPUT -i lo -j ACCEPT
    iptables -A OUTPUT -o lo -j ACCEPT

If anyone can help i'd appreciate it.

    Thanks ;D

    1. Your tables look fine. Does Mysql work with the Firewall turned off? You need to make sure your Mysql will accept remote connections in your mysql.conf. You might want to verify that the other server firewall is open to receive your data.
    2. It seems you are going about this the hard way. We run all dedicated service and with each install, we run everything out of the same box as the daemon with zero performance loss. Thats mysql apache etc on the machine your running. It is quite simpler just with a LAMPS install.
    3. The advice about webmin is a valid one we run that also on all our machines. It sets up your apache server and Mysql server quickly and easily. Plus the default settings will serve you well without any special settings.
    4. If you decide to setup on one machine like i suggested then in your web server just make a dns entry for your dedicated box so you dont have to use the IP all the time instead of http://111.222.333.444/multicraft/ you can call it mydedicated.mywebserver.net/multicraft/

posted a message on I Need A Cheap Server Host
If I may give you a suggestion 4 GB is good for only 80 - 92 players in Vanilla. Add in plug ins etc and the amount will decrease. It might be better to save up a little more and get the extra ram especially if you are going to run Multiverse or any ram intensive plug in. If your interested check us out in the Minecraft Hosting section but again my advice is to save your money and do it right.

I believe your best bet would be apply for a sponsorship with someone. Your ram size request might be too high for that though. 2 Gigs = about 40 on vanilla MC with 4 Gigs = 80 on vanilla.MC.

    Good Luck,

posted a message on Looking for a host: See more for needs
    Quote from rockkooky

    Greetings,
The forums seemed like a good place to find a host so here we go. I recently closed my server because my host wanted to charge me more money to support development builds and I refused to pay. I lost all my players and decided to start a new server. This server will be a mini-game server with economy. I will be having spleef, Hg, and paintball to start and will expand later. I finished setting everything up on my home hosted server and all I need to do is upload the files via FTP and my server will be open soon. Here are the requirements I need for my host:

    • Dedicated IP
    • 3gb ram
    • Custom jars (spigot)
    • 95%+ uptime
    • good support
    • A fast CP (prefrebly multicraft)
    • enough storage for 20 plugins and 2 maps/worlds
    • I will pay $35 MAX
    • Included mumble or team speak would be nice but is optional

    Thanks for your time,
    Aaron

    LowHop Networks - http://lowhop.net.

posted a message on looking for sserver to hold 30 to 40 people at a price of 25 or 20
    Check us out - http://lowhop.net

We can get you into 2 Gigs for $10.00 USD in France, North Carolina USA, Atlanta USA or Los Angeles USA - only $5.00 a gig. Promos are 25% off the full price in the LA Datacenter and North Carolina along with our Quarterly Sale which cuts your cost per gig down even further by paying quarterly.

Quarterly Price with promo works out to $3.25 USD a gig. Even our normal quarterly pricing is lower because we give you a DISCOUNT for the 3 months instead of just charging you straight rates as so many do. (check out the others quarterly pricing and see what I mean)

Codes: CAROLINA25 -Multicraft NC Data Center | LAXMC25 - Multicraft LA Data Center | QUARTERLY25 - Quarterly pricing discount for all games, all data centers.

We also have TCadmin available at all locations if you prefer that!

You might be asking for a little too much especially with a bungee, resources like that cost money - you might want to come up with a payment plan and also take a look at this thread for some good advice:

posted a message on Give me some advices for home hosting, please?
Ok - the bottom line is this - if this is for a couple friends use Hamachi. If you want to try to sell services out of your home, then be able to provide a 100mbps connection constant 24/7. If you cannot then you are going to limited more from that then your machine on how many people you can host.

Your machine limitations are going to be your ram. if you have an 8GB machine - that is 7 1GB servers with a gig left over for overhead. Minecraft is RAM intensive, not CPU unless something is going wrong with a server. If this was CSS, BF3, COD or a myriad of other games then you would be CPU limited. So ram is your big concern.

The next thing is Storage - We could argue SSD vs SATA 3 HD's all day till the cows comes home, but I would love to have someone actually show me a report from an actual benchmark test of an server using SSD's for clients servers versus a SATA3 HDD server for actual individual response time. IMHO SSD's are great for PC's for Boot drives. I have run them on Game drives and boot and once I am in the game, I never saw any advantage. My game never ran faster, my frame rates were the same etc.

The next big concern is cost. You can put all those SSD's big CPU's etc and have a server better suited for running a major corporations database versus running a bunch of minecraft servers. If you overbuild, you are getting something you will never re-coup the costs on. Do a little research besides in here. Calculate the amount of resources a single Minecraft server uses - CPU, memory, bandwidth. Then take that and times it out by the amount of servers you want to host taking into account your bandwidth available. Then build your server based on that. A server that will run efficiently, effectively and within budget.

hehe my friend, i will get 7 mb up minumum and 10 mb up maximum, no disaster happened in croatia for 30 years and i will use some cloud service to back up my world and maybe even a real hdd, battery backups are avaible if im not wrong since freddiew used them in his build, whatsoever i will even maybe use solar panels to charge battery a bit and i really dont think you need some A grade routers, maybe you do correct me please :D , no offense here but there are a lot of routers like WD n900 with tech that improoves speed and helps allocate memory to tasks that are heavier than others and now thanks to you i will only use dropbox for backup, my world doesnt get that big, thanks for getting your time to write this, a lot of help here...

Do not take offense, but didn't a war happened in the recent past????
