There was some speculation that the 13th map was going to be Pantheon. Hopefully it will be a legendary 2 or a NR 2
3 things. One, Pantheon was at the very beginning scheduled as a collaboration between mappers as a single map, credited to all of them. Not put entirely on Vech's thread. Two, all the second ones of any map have replaced the spot the old map was in, not gotten an entirely new spot. And 3rd, both Legendary and Nightmare Realm are not broken or unplayable, or even scheduled for remakes, as Canopy Carnage and Black Desert are for.
Noobs. Before your pathetic cheaty potions, lava was just as bad as void. If you had really, really, good armor and you were close to shore, you might survive falling into lava. But for the most part, lava was void, void was lava in the beta 1.7.3 days. Either way you were dead and not getting your stuff back. Sure lava was a little bit more forgiving, but not by much.
Then they added ender pearls, fire resist, fire prot. IV, and all the other ways of beating lava, and people stopped thinking of lava as horrible. Void is now the only way in current CTM maps to simulate the old lava effect. So put the manpance on and deal with void like a veteran.
No, lava wasn't. While it was dangerous and often fatal, you had a chance of recovering some of your gear from lava. In void, it was an insta kill no items back. Lava at least had the chance to escape it and to save your items.
You should look at other CTMers, there are (imo) better map makers than Vechs.
So what. Lava is everywhere and sometimes you can just fall in it and die and you lose basically about all your stuff if you fall in (without fire resistance) and the same traps can happen with it.
I give the player a bunch of stuff, why not make them lose it easily?
Lava however can be escaped. You can endpearl out of lava after being in it, attempt to build a platform on it, crawl back onto land, etc. You can keep your items from lava with planning. With void, it's you fall in, and you have absolutely no method to stop it. You just die and lose everything.
I honestly hate void traps in anything. They seem more like an annoying **** move than an actual trap. Plus, there's the whole not being able to ever get anything you had back, which is really annoying.
Psssst. Check the Monumenta thread. There's about 4-6 openings at the moment.Collaboration, despite how highly it's touted, is very inefficient. Excellence comes from unique people with their own ideas and products, not from a committee. Particularly not when you have drama wars between the mappers, which happened to Pantheon I. I was honestly quite surprised that the first one came out at all.Long maps are also not that good of an idea in my opinion. My favorite is 3 intersections, with the standard 19-piece VM. 4 intersections is doable, but 5 or 6 is just ridiculous. Particularly when each area is massive and has sub-areas and side-areas. It takes so long to complete a map the size of Pantheon, that people are more prone to quit because they feel that they are not making enough progress. When you go 5-10 episodes in an LP without getting a single wool, you can get easily frustrated.
I have to agree on both parts here. While a collaboration between mapmakers sounds awesome, in practice the areas will have almost nothing in common, and since each person is making one area, they're probably going to want to make it shine out as a crowning jewel of awesome. The problem with most larger maps (in my opinion) is they are either going to be large swarms of annoying enemies constantly + huge areas, or highly restricted resources to make artificial difficulty.
OOGE seemed ready to ragequit Vinyl Fantasy. I've seen several small LPers who have quit even Vechs' maps. The amount of people who play any map compared to the amount of people who beat a map is quite different.
Pantheon is also an unfair example because that map was obscenely huge. That map could easily have been a 80-120 episode series. Even a fast LPer would still take a while to beat it. Someone like Zisteau could spend 9 months or so on it easily. Plus, even though I didn't assist in making Pantheon, I have heard all of the countless troubles that were involved in its making.
In any event, Three_Two is "busy" with VF3, Matt's quit mapping, etc. So I'm really just joking. The point is, don't compare Pantheon to a standard size map that isn't made by a huge amount of people.
About Pantheon, as a member of Pantheon II (before it kinda died), I can say without a doubt that size map with that many different people making parts of it takes forever. I was in it for 2-4 months, and a total of...4? 5? areas were made and shown on the forum for it. While I'm pretty sure some more of the areas were done, getting that many people to create something takes a long time.
Viks is gone now, but if you want Amlup (Author of the Uncharted Territory series of CTM maps and awesome Youtuber) has some fantastic videos on the basics.
Oh, and the villain thing doesn't faze me one bit. If you DO make a map, then I'd love to play it.
I decided to set out on my quest to be the very best CTM player, like no one ever was. To beat them is my real quest, to mock the creators is my cause.
CTM Gotta Beat 'em All!
Luckily I have the Gun of Difficulty, to shoot that dream with the Bullets of Peaceful. I'm sorry, but your quest is to late. I've already won.
For Hostile Trails #1, if I want to play it in 1.4+, do you think Vechs would accept if I give carrots with commands ? Because actually, the only way to collect some is to farm zombies...
I think it would be okay. Since the hostile trails was made before they changed the breeding/following item to carrots. Though, you could just use minecarts.
Well, I played it in 1.5 for my run, and it definitely seemed like the new AI was messing me up a lot. Besides, I make it a personal rule to always play CTMs in their native versions unless I have a good reason.
GTA V? Me wants but can't haz. I needz to save up for new laptop (High Quality one, not a derpy one like mine at this point), and then I can no longer blame lag for my deaths. Wait, hang on. Excuses are good, right?
Breakdown of Dusty's deaths: Water=15% Derpiness=55% Lag = 20% Other Derpiness=10%
The vast majority of my deaths are from my own stupidity. And then lag, followed by water.
Welcome back Vechs. Now that you're done sulking for half a year, are you about ready to take responsibility for the massive flaws in Inferno Mines and make a better map?
And to the rest of you down here at the bottom of his ivory tower with me, hey guys, how's it going? Seems that Vechs has abandoned you cause some people dared to have the temerity to say Inferno Mines wasn't perfect. How does that make you feel?
Could you be slightly less rude? Yeah, Inferno Mines wasn't perfect. But it was fun, and Vechs made it in his free time. He didn't make us pay for it, and he didn't get paid for all the hours he spent on it. It's fine to criticize the work, as long as you aren't being a jerk about it.
