posted a message on best block for building house?

If the house is out in the open, use a combination of rock blocks. You don't want wood to be vulnerable to lightning strikes.

If my house is inside a hill I usually use what I want though, since I'm covered against everything.

posted a message on The Mystery of the Disappearing Sheep

I tried different designs of pens but things kept disappearing regardless. So I came up with a new design and nothing has ever disappeared since (I too keep all colors in different pens).

Dig a 1-block deep hole made of dirt and wait for it to become grass. Then put glass on the borders. After that, put the fences on said glass blocks, and light it at will.

This way, if they every glitch and lodge into a wall, said wall will be glass and they won't suffocate.

By the way you're writing this, it already seems you're extremely annoyed and angry at your world

If this can help you remember its name, "terracotta" is italian and literally means "cooked earth", which is what it is.

posted a message on What was your first house made from?

My first shelter was a small room in the side of a hill, made of dirt, with no door, no lightning, no nothing. I went out looking for stuff, came back and found a creeper inside. It blew up everything and I fled into the night, dying soon after.

Then I retried with more knowledge. I carved again a room in a hillside, but this time I made doors, torches, and whatnot. I built a full-fledged house out of it, made a castle on top of it (I mined the whole hill off; I didn't mind cobblestone so I used that), walls, every kind of pens for sheeps and stuff... needless to say this is my main base even now in my survival world.

posted a message on No variety in biomes

    Thanks for the replies everyone.

My main problem is that I tend to connect all my bases, but building 10000km roads isn't feasible while walking in the Overworld; that's why I resort to the Nether.

As I said, I'm not abandoning this world, because I sank so many hours in it; I decided, though, to start another one with mods, while leaving the first world intact and modless. Hopefully some day I'll feel like resuming my research for a better land, but for now, I'm too disappointed by my boring discoveries.

    (Wouldn't like to cheat)

    Damn, that's horrible to hear.

I love that world and it's too dear to me to start anew. The only compromise I can, and will accept, is starting another world but loaded with mods. And that's what I will do; do you guys know if Biomes O' Plenty is a good mod?

posted a message on No variety in biomes

    Hi everyone.

So I have my vanilla world which I've been playing since I bought Minecraft. I made awesome bases and found plentiful resources and cannot complain about that.

However I cannot found anything other than plains, deserts, and oceans. Some sparse forests and ONE taiga.

Traveling through the nether, I went as far as to build outposts 1500 Overworld blocks in one direction and 2000 in the opposite one. What did I find on the other ends? Two deserts, two plains, an ocean.

I can't take this anymore. What do I have to do to find a jungle, or a somewhat cold biome, or some temples that aren't sand ones? Am I bugged or something? Do I need to travel super long distances to find different landscapes?

posted a message on How to connect two underground places?

Thank you for the replies guys. As I said, I forgot all about coordinates (just re-started playing) and was lost. I don't think I'll go to Y=12; I don't need more valuable resources than I already have, and maybe I will stumble upon some interesting caves to give a bit of scenery. I'm probably not going to decorate the railway or add more space than necessary, though, since I'd just use it to quickly get to the End. The easiest route would be making the fortress above the Stronghold my main base, but it's in a desert and I don't like it.

Speaking of which, my world seems to be made up almost entirely by deserts and plains. Going 1500 blocks away revealed a taiga, though, so maybe hope is not lost. I have started expanding my Nether rail; I take it the best way to go is just going 100 blocks straight in the Nether and then opening a new portal, as Corageous_Marinade hinted?

Hit F3 and get your X/Z coordinates for the destination, then figure out which direction to go and start mining. That's how I keep from getting lost in the Overworld.

I admit I didn't even think of that possibility. Thanks!

posted a message on How to connect two underground places?

    Hi everyone.

To keep it short, I want to make a railway from the basement of my main base to the nearby stronghold, so I can just ride it in a matter of a minute instead of taking my horse. But I don't know how to be sure I'm going in the right direction while mining underground to make way. How do I do it?

I play unmodded Minecraft if that means anything.

posted a message on Stronghold Not Found

As far as I know, it was previously possible that the Portal would be overwritten by a ravine. Then they changed it so that strongholds spawn after ravine are generated, and thus cannot be the cause of the portal disappearing.

At any rate, it is possible there is none if your world is a veeeeeeery old one.

As far as buildings in the end, I was thinking of building something similar to my End Portal building (pictured).

Very elegant design. I appreciate those who can craft harmonious buildings in a landscape. I wish I could do the same, but I always end up creating cubes or underground shelters, with a very heavy/imposing look. They aren't fancy, but they are monster-proof at least.
