posted a message on Can Someone please give me some advice?

It's certainly not a game meant purely for children- and even if it was, what does it matter? Coloring books are considered to be for children, but it's been found that the stress reducing capabilities for it are pretty great, and they've started releasing coloring books aimed at adults with more complex patterns. As long as you've got a variety of interests, as well as the ability to balance your responsibilities... I don't understand the problem.

Maybe he doesn't think it's masculine to be playing something he sees as childish? But if that is the case that's also ridiculous, in my opinion, to force your concept of masculinity onto someone else. Or maybe it's the view of it being childish alone- which as myself and others have stated, it's not so.
Between the creative/logical thinking you can build while playing the game, and the more 'behind the scenes' aspects of it like community interactions and technical knowledge about programming and such that can be imparted... It's got it's merits, it does. And it's meant for everyone.

I'm 22 (will be 23 in March), and have some friends who are 27-29 who play it as well. My father is 64, and while he doesn't play it himself (he's not much for videogames you see) he enjoys it too.

I believe everything everyone has imagined exists... somewhere.

Especially with the idea of infinite dimensions, each with different properties and all... So that means, somehow, somewhere everything exists.

Thats actually a crazy idea, infinite infinities... It is quite the idea to think.

    Infinite infinities... oh jeez.
Well going on the theory that the universe is still expanding, I suppose infinite infinities would be the appropriate way to describe it.

Also, if there is a dimension with Darth Vader in a pimp suit- I'd very much like to see it. :Pig:

That would just make things entirely too easy. That and it isn't really mindless digging if you know the spawn levels for the ores and know the signs of places they will probably be.

If you get that desperate, there's always xray- which is a tool that allows you to see through the ground and it highlights ores/coal/spawners.

I hope notch wont make it a total ***** and hire stupid-ass moderators who delete all posts for no ****ing reason

I think you did that on purpose.

Except for the issue of not making the options menu too complicated (and this would probably be in a separate area, like profile options rather than game options), I'm fine with there being language filters on the client side-- that is, the swear word goes out intact, but when it appears it gets censored (replaced by asterisks or @#$%'s) on your screen only if you have profanity filtered. If you've ever played Kingdom of Loathing and noted the chat options for that game... well, yeah.

After that, it's up to the admins of servers to decide if they want to keep language clean, and the parents to make sure that their kids know how adults generally react to curse words.

I agree with this entirely. I don't think you should FORCE language filters on people. That sort of thing gets really annoying- especially when it interferes with normal typing. (In example, I have played games where it will censor anything with 'nig' in it, so saying goodnight of course has plenty of difficulties.)

World of Warcraft has a language filter, however as was suggested for Minecraft, the censor is client side and can be toggled in the preferences. Anything further is up to the admin's discretion.
Client side language filters, imo, are perfectly acceptable. It allows people to speak their mind, while at the same time giving the people who would rather avoid that type of speech the ability to do so.

    -Firefox

    -Photoshop *CS3 at the moment*
    -Skype

    -3DS Max
    -Teamviewer
    -Hamachi
    -Notepad

I'd add Xfire but I really don't use it much anymore. I use iTunes because I do have an ancient iPod, not to mention my favorite local radio station has a stream set up through iTunes radio, and I've gotten very used to the organized music listing.

Command line progs are great for automation. You can specify all the params/args in a config file or on the command line and then execute it automatically via batch file or whatever.

And this is why I really don't care about whether or not iTunes has a command line, seeing as I have NO idea what any of that really even means.

posted a message on Our fantasy, reality elsewhere?
    Ahoy!
Just as a warning, this will probably be a wall of text, and contains issues that are heavily under debate in the scientific community. I'd also like to mention I'm not very educated on some of these issues, and the thought came to me while half asleep at 4am.

    On with it!

Fire breathing dragons, magic, floating sky structures and countless other things are all considered pure fantasy here on Earth. Now, I'm not saying these things by the book exist in other places (i.e just because there's a book series on it, doesn't mean Hogwarts exists)- however it all comes down to the physics and limitations of where we are now.
(Elaboration: Reading that over seems really silly. I don't mean that there could be a planet with mages or whatever, just things with similar properties or... something. I don't know, I'm having a hard time explaining all of this.)

For example- There's scientific laws with physics for Earth, however these laws can not be directly applied to say... the moon. The different mass, gravity, etc. all have various effects in the physics and scientific laws of that area.
Do you guys think it would be possible for things deemed fantasy and impossible here, to be possible in other places? Maybe in another dimension, or possibly even in this universe- just in galaxies we have yet to come anywhere near exploring.
To me, at least when I thought of this in my sleepy state of mind, perhaps a lot of this stuff only seems impossible due to our existing lifeforms and materials, possibly even our location in the universe.
In the same way that moon rock or martian objects have different components when compared to rock and dirt here on Earth, it wouldn't seem too hard to believe that there could be other planets/galaxies/dimensions with far more obscure and fascinating materials, only dreamed up in what we see or read- possibly even things that dwarf our works of fiction in abilities and make-up.

The universe is vast. There's a lot we have yet to understand. I wouldn't say I believe in 'aliens', and I'm not particularly religious either- however, just the same as I wouldn't be surprised if we were to find out we ARE alone in the universe, I wouldn't be too shocked to hear if we're not.
If you're an evolutionist, chances are you think the universe was created from nothing. For me, it's hard to really pin point what nothing would be like, and how something could be created from nothing... and if there was absolutely nothing, what the HELL is the space where the universe was created in?
What we can see in existence around us is pretty mind boggling to begin with, so when you go even further back and factor in all of the possibilities... it just seems there's a lot of things we deem to be impossible that on some level/plane of existence, that it seems theoretically could be possible.

I really hope I was able to word this in a way that makes any kind of sense. If not, maybe if people comment I might be able to clarify a few things. Uhm... Yeah. Just thought I'd share! :Pig:

instead of sand, why not using glass so its inside a little crystal tank, gives a use to glass other than windows, and u can see the hermit crab running around and sometimes "sleeping" inside its shell, if u break the glass tank, becomes a normal H. crab that u can gather back doesnt need to eat rly, having a little companion like this, makes single player less lonely, and makes scary nights more pleasant
    Recipe:

    :Pig: being h. crab

    Yesssss. That would be great!
Right now in my under water base, in the bedroom, I have this little 'window' thing. Since I couldn't even get water down that far, I hallowed out 2-3 blocks into the rock/gravel, filled it with reeds, torches, and flowers- then put some glass in. I think fish tanks/hermit crab tanks could create a similar air, where regular windows aren't available.

I really enjoy the idea of seeing random hermit crabs scuttling about over the beaches as you're digging up sand. Getting attacked by a larger crab would be pretty cool too!

"I can't kill them. make them easier based on my predefined notions about what video games should be"
    shut up ghasts are fun
hell is supposed to be CHALLENGING.
the ghast is supposed to be something to be AVOIDED, not shot out of the air with some godly powerful **** cannon you want added to the game. Ghasts are there to add a looming sense of fear when you are in hell, not just to be a string enemy. They are supposed to unpredictable. If you establish a proper fort, you actually CAN engage them on fair terms, but if you run around in the open liek i assume you do (as you see them as unkillable **** monsters) you will get blown up. STRATEGY MY FRIEND, STRATEGY.

In a way, this. Notch has already mentioned doing something to knock the Ghasts down a couple of pegs, seeing as they are currently very hard to engage using normal combat. They are not impossible to kill currently- it just takes some effort.
I don't believe they're terrible mobs at all- I just think they need a little bit of tweaking... which, as has been said, Notch is going to be working on.

It hasn't even been TWO WEEKS since the Halloween update was released, and Nether travel alone is still under construction (i.e: Portal glitches). In tomorrow/today's update, Zombie Pigmen will eventually forgive you for smacking them around, so they won't follow you around the Nether and back to slaughter you.

Your argument did have some valid points, however everyone needs to be a little more patient.
