posted a message on Building a nice looking large boat?
there was a time lapse of a boat. built by..i think featherblade? featherbald? idk, it's been a long time. he posted it here on the forums with information on how he did it and such, but it'll be archived by now. i'll dig around for it, and edit my post with a link if i find it. either way, it was a seriously incredible boat. oh, and now that i think of it, try checking in the thread o' links for boats. i'm sure he'll have some there.

http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/99707-elites-of-minecraft-the-architect/ by the same guy who made this thread...still hunting.
and, found it! http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/151548-boats-do-you-want-a-timelapse-or-tutorial/page__p__2302401#entry2302401 hope this helps.

posted a message on Building Themes?
if you want to make a style you don't often see, try limiting yourself. for instance, for one building i used only smoothstone, half blocks, and fences. it ended up looking vaugely asian, but at the same time, it was just different somehow. just experiment with stuff like that, that forces you to think about materials/blocks in new and unusual ideas. once you're used to taking fences, or even buttons, out of their normal roles, you can implement all of that in your regular building style, making it uniquely your own. or if you're too lazy to do any of that, try building in odd conditions that force you to be inventive, like on the side of a cliff, or maybe even hanging underneath a large overhang. failing all that, then maybe just try ethiopian architecture; http://artmundus.files.wordpress.com/2010/08/betgiorgis-1300-ad-church.jpg seems different enough for me.

posted a message on When notch says there will be new terrain generator features, what does he mean?
well, there's this quote: “I like the more separate areas of terrain, instead of our [Minecraft's] biomes that kind-of blend into each other. I think it works very well. Because mentally you know where the boundaries are. I haven’t even thought about it this clearly but yeah, I think I got inspired by Terraria. I get inspired by all the games I play.”
    notch talking about terraria (http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/07/22/minecraft-could-get-terraria-style-bosses-says-notch/).
so the terrain generator changes+that quote could mean he's changing biomes a little. or not. who knows?

posted a message on Enchanted Forest Bug
not accusing you, but it's entirely possible he's just a troll, and his screenshot is just using a transparent mod thing for torches, if that's possible. i don't usually mess with mods. however, i don't see much reason for him to do that, so eh. i'll believe him for now.

posted a message on Just can't settle!
to get better at building in minecraft, the absolute best way is to just build. doesn't matter if your stuff looks awful, if you keep it up, it will keep getting better. give yourself a chance to learn. if you also want a few "rules" of architecture, make sure the building isn't too busy. not too many colors/shapes/etc. also, use the golden ratio. there was a thread on it a while ago, i'll edit a link sometime later.

posted a message on [WIP] Cylindrical Castle
i saw a circular castle, except it was different in two ways: one, it was actually a fractal, circle-based castle,so it had one main circle in the middle, then split off...and...circle...it's difficult to explain, and i don't remember it very well. and then two, they never got past making the foundations. nice job on following through with a circular castle, can't be easy in a world given to square and rectangular creations.

posted a message on I found an absolutely epic mountain
dont do just an observation deck of that size. either it has to be huge and epic, or minimalist. in between, all it does is take away from the natural coolness of the mountain, in favor of something not as cool. so go big, or go home.

posted a message on I want to make this clear.
i feel like most of you are misinterpreting the original post. he knows that there is a planned "adventure mode". he knows that beta 1.7 will be an "adventure update". what he's saying is that "adventure mode" does not necesarilly equal "adventure update", or vice versa. i actually *highly* doubt we'll see adventure mode in 1.7, more that notch will try to focus on adding content that is adventure-oriented for 1.7. (as opposed to the creative-oriented updates as of late with more stair types, more half blocks, wool colors, etc) he is also not saying "we shouldn't discuss 1.7 being adventure mode", he's saying we should not take it for granted that it is, and then complain when/if it isn't.

    Edit:
sorry, didn't realize there were 4 pages to this until posting. looks like everybodys gotten it and my post is just restating the last few pages. feel free to ignore it.

posted a message on Using minecraft to hide/ protect your personal data.
    Quote from sanguzar

Sounds a little like a William Gibson novel. How about just using the world generator as an encryption method. The world becomes a visual representation of your personal data.

What kind of world would your credit rating produce and would filing for bankruptcy cause a forest fire?

first thing i thought; hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy.

no dynamic lighting is gonna hit minecraft. the current lighting system is could never do it, it would lag everything to hell. he would have to basicly rewrite minecraft, back from the start. not gonna happen. if i'm wrong and he does add it, i apologize for the misinformation, this is just what i've heard
