If you went into McDonalds and asked for some free french fries, would they give them to you?
Same with servers, no one is going to give you a free one. You've got to either make your own (which isn't that hard if you follow the videos) or find a public server to play on.
Also, if you have a couple of computers in your house then you can play together without a server if you click 'Open to LAN'.
Patch 1.8 changed map zooming quite a bit. When you zoom a map in 1.8 it aligns itself to a grid resulting in what you observed.
That means you can create a map, zoom it as far as you want and then just travel a few chunks over the border to make the next map. It will automatically align itself to the grid without creating an overlap. There's no need to write down coordinates anymore.
Thing is I already got a grid going with a lot of already explored maps. Is there anyway to line up that grid with mine?
I've got quite a couple maps set up. After the update came out I made a new one, went to the appropriate location and I zoomed it out like usual. The none zoomed maps are locked into a grid, but when you zoom them out they're not, you always start in the center. However instead of starting in the center it started in the lower left quadrant of the map, messing up the alignment. I tried it again in another location and had the same problem. Why is this happening?
If someone is confused by my description I can post a screenshot.
Those are quite fun, but I'm pretty sure that he wants to avoid magic and technology related mods. I haven't checked out any new packs for a while, but I have yet to hear of either a technic or FTB pack doesn't have at least a couple of those.
You're right with the texture pack though. If you want a themed feel to mc, that's the way to go.
I agree - this is such a totally lame way to add this to the game - existing chunks SHOULD NEVER be altered by new objects.
I see your point, although one viable way of doing it would be to add the restriction that only water blocks can be replaced. This way you don't have to go extremely far to find them, and it wouldn't destroy anything the player might've built.
Although I doubt they would do this, they could do the same things for the new types of rock. If the game sees a large area of nothing but unexposed stone (blocks on all 6 sides) It could insert a vein of granite or one of the other types of rock.
The new underwater structures will be generated in already generated chunks.
Really? That's interesting. I'd assumed that it worked the same way as temples when they were introduced. You'd still have to explore farther for the other new features such as granite though.

I haven't actually ever tried this mod or anything like it, but judging from the previews this seems to be what you're looking for.

Sharpness 2 Sword + Sharpness 2 Book = Sharpness 3 Sword, and so on. 5 is the limit.
