posted a message on [WIP] Fairy Factions mod!

Hey there, it's KodaichiZero, the original creator of this mod.

I wasn't sure where to post this, but this seemed like the best place for fans of the Fairy Factions mod since my other thread is locked. It's been a long time since I stopped modding for Minecraft, and due to my current situation I don't really see myself ever going back to it. Times have changed and so have I. But I still often look back on the time I spent here, and I'm really proud of the content I was able to create and how much enjoyment my fans got out of my work. I think that the Fairy Factions mod was probably my greatest accomplishment for a few different reasons, one of which was the design for the fairies themselves. So I'm taking that character design and actually doing something bigger with it:

I've decided at this point to start making a Unity game! Why? Because making a full, proper video game is something I've always wanted to do. I've been working with the Unity engine for a little while and I'm pleased with how easy it is to work with and what I've been able to accomplish so far. The most important thing to me was to be able to make the game feel nice, and I've already figured out how to make the player have a hover ability and controls that feel really nice for a 3D platformer. I also want to make the game have a bright and colorful aesthetic, with cute and cartoony character/enemy designs, great animations and a lot of humor. Now my next step is to do some 3D modelling and make a simple model of my character. For this, I need a proper 2D profile picture showing a front, side and back view of the character. I'm not very good at drawing though, so I need some help with this. Here's what I've been able to mock up so far:

    Fairy Drawings

As you can see I'll need a proper artist to render the fairy character in a non-blocky, multi-polygonal fashion. I'm confident that I'll be able to make a good-looking 3D model once I have a 2D image to work off of. So if anyone who was a fan of this mod happens to be a good artist, I could really use your help. After the model's done, I'm going to work on a quick mock-up game (a couple months' work) with a few untextured levels just to give people a taste of what the final product might be like (a couple years' work).

So if you want to contribute in any way, or even just chat with me about anything, feel free to send me an email at [email protected], or add me on Skype with "kodaichizero" (I'm in Canada). Don't PM me on these forums because I probably won't see it. I hope you understand why I reluctantly can't come back to modding, and I also hope you might get some enjoyment out of the game I'll be making.

Looking forward to talking with some of you!

    Welcome back! ^-^
Would you mind updating the Ghast tentacles to look less blocky when you get the chance?
umm... no? everything in the game is blocky, man...

And also I've started work on a new minecraft project thingy that's part of some youtube thing, I'm not gonna reveal too much now because a) I don't know if I'm supposed to and B) It's not really all that interesting anyway.

    Hey Guys,

Sorry for being gone for like a million years, I've been doing other stuff and kind of lost interest in modding and minecraft for a little while. Don't worry though, I'm going to update all of this soon, and have a few new little surprise thingies with the updated release. Expect a nice "V2" within a couple of days.

Because you deserve to have things delivered to you on time and for free because you're a super special and awssome person, I'm just a ****

Someone on reddit managed to animate both elbows and knees. He also put in an improved 1st person view where you see the legs and arms and all that. Here's the post.

Notice that the video doesn't show what happens to the item in your hand.

The maker of the 3D Items mod said that his mod probably won't work with Better Animations? That doesn't seem to make sense.

Which "edition" are you using of his mod? Even if one edition was actually not compatible for some reason, I'm sure one of them would be. And, that's because I'm sure it's NOT directly an incompatibility with Better Animations itself.

    Also, Mod Order Matters.
    1. Start with a clean (unmodified) minecraft.jar file. Temporarily revert back to the default texture pack first. Also, you will NOT have to delete the META-INF folder using this method. Do NOT use MCPatcher (at any time).
    2. Get Magic Launcher (do NOT use MCPatcher).
    3. Get OptiFine (do NOT use MCPatcher).
    4. Get the most recent "Recommended" build of Forge.
    5. Get the "Forge" edition of 3D Items.
    6. In Magic Launcher, add "Forge to the TOP of the list."
    7. In Magic Launcher, add 3D Items (Forge Edition) as the second item in the list.
    8. In Magic Launcher, add Better Animations as the third item in the list.
    9. In Magic Launcher, add OptiFine LAST in the list. Ignore the error it shows.
    10. Launch Minecraft using Magic Launcher, select the texture pack you want, and play the world you want.
Better Animations and everything should work fine together.

    :)
Listen to this man, I've personally never used Magic Launcher and he seems to know a lot about it :P

ALSO: I've heard from a pretty reliable source (a friend in real life who is a part of the EvilMinecraft team) that 3D Items was stolen from EvilMinecraft, so just know that you're using and promoting stolen code. Thanks.

hey thanks for the mod creepers r awesome !

Tails for cows would be welcome. Don't ?
Cows don't have textures for tails, I can't really just add them if no graphics for it exist :/

With the "dogs lying down and rolling over" extra, I found that the puppies don't roll over (and yes, I held up the meat). Are they supposed to roll over?
No, I prevented it because their heads are way too big. Their head goes into the ground and their legs float into the air. Believe me, it looks terrible.

I've read through a few pages and couldn't figure it out...Is this Single Player only, or SMP compatable?

Sorry if it has already been answered, I couldn't find it.
It's partially working in SMP. some things don't show up.

Hi, I made another video for you. It would be nice if you post it on the startpage of this mod, but you have not to, because there's already a lot of crazy stuff. But check it out :D

Duuude that was great! Even better than the top one I got now! See, this is the difference between a demonstration and a trailer. This is the kind of video I like to see. Great job! :D

Splatacular Modulifacation, but I beleve the non poofy tail extra and the sit down wolf extra use the same class file so compatibility would require recoding wolfs so that standing wolfs and sitting wolfs are different class files wich would be very hard to do. (you see, I'm not a modder but I think I have an Idea of how they work) I would suggest a extra that is non poofy tails combined with sit down, wolf.
That you for implementing or not implementing my suggestion beacus you can't do neither.
Anyways, great mod the ghasts are my favorite part :D
So in summary, four different files:
      poofy tail wolves (file 1)
      regular tail wolves (file 2)
laying down poofy tail wolves (file 3)
laying down regular tail wolves (file 4)

And you think it's reasonable to keep four different versions of the same file updated why, exactly...?

Because I'm not gonna do it. Next version, the regular tails are staying, but all wolves will be laying down, no non-laying down wolves. Hope that appeases most of you. Just take time to think about what you were putting up with in vanilla before this mod was made, and be thankful for what you get.

look's kind of good but it's too big

ragdoll physics is probably possible cause i saw 1 mod before that added ragdoll physics to blocks if you know what i mean so reagdoll people may be possible. I think ragdoll for all mobs and player would be cool.
I don't think you know what ragdoll means... one block is a solid object with no limbs attached. that doesn't qualify as ragdoll.

    hey...have a 1.2.3 version of the mod w/ extras? thanks :)
No, sorry, I'm not gonna make a seperate version of every file just so you can use this with the yogbox.

Wow.. this mod is truly amazing.. all I wonder is if it lowers the framerate any.
some things like the ghast and the squids might in large amounts, but I doubt it would be noticeable except if you compared the framerates bewteen massive armies of modded models versus those of vanill models

I don't think Lie Down, Doggy works all the way on MP. My dog lays down but I pull out some meat and he doesn't roll over. I'm sure you know of this before. Not sure if it is known or not, if so sorry for repeating it. And yes the dog is mine.

Sorry for some reason the images won't work right and my laptop is to laggy to try and fix. :l
Does your dog even tilt its head in MP? if it doesn't, then it's not my fault, it's a vanilla issue.

Ok I didn't know that Lying Down will not work with the regular tails. I don't expect you to make four different versions of the same thing, it was just a response to a question.
Okie! Glad you see my point :)
