posted a message on Simple Spider Farm! [Cheap, Efficient, Compact] Vanilla Survival

    Hello there, Ray here!

I made a simple spider only farm that have qualities that make it the best for the average player!

I made this 8 months ago for a different project and decided to show it after someone asked for it.

The farm is made up of spawning layers where only spiders can spawn because there is a transparent block 2m above the spawning floor which causes other mobs to collide with it and therefore fail to spawn there. Spiders are 1m high so they don't collide with it and therefore can spawn there. The spiders are removed from the spawning floors by washing them out with water. Then they fall to their deaths and the loot they drop is picked up and stored by hopper carts.

What makes my design better than others is because it is cheap, efficient and compact. The farm uses pistons instead of dispensers which can break if they are updated incorrectly. Instead of flooding all the spawning layer it only has water streams every other row since spiders are 2m wide they will away be caught in the stream. Less water updates means less lag when running it. It uses only 1 pistons to flood 4 spawning rows which makes it cheaper. All the wiring is within the spawning floors and each layer is only 2m high. You can make this farm bigger or smaller if you wish. Enjoy!

posted a message on End Stone and Torch Farm! [Infinitely Automatic] 1.9 Vanilla Survival

    Hello there, Ray here!

Today I'll be showing a machine that farms end stone and torches!

The way this farm works is by collecting the torches and the end stone blocks that are apart of the Exit End Portal. Every time the exit end portal is generated it will make a fountain shape bedrock formation with 4 torches around the center and with 16 end stone under the bedrock rim. There are several ways to make the exit end portal regenerate its structure. The most common way is to place down 4 new ender crystals at its base. But the way I have it regenerate is by making the dragon get deleted from within the game. The way I do this is by using precise timing while the ender dragon is summoned into the game, so that once it spawns it is transported away from the main island using entity processing chunk loaders. Once the dragon is 12 chunks away from 0,0 the game will see that there is no dragon near 0,0 and will summon in a new dragon 1 minute later at 0,0 as well as regenerate the exit end portal structure. The old dragon will be deleted during this process.

Now that the exit end portal is be regenerated every 1 minute I then build a farm around the portal. There is 2 machines, one that removes the torches and another that removes the end stone. The torches are removed using a cobble generator and a water stream. Once the torches fall off they are washed towards some hopper carts which will put them into chest. The end stone is pulled away from the bedrock base and then push back underneath the bedrock fountain. In the center is a wither which is stuck in the exit end portal bedrock formation. The end stone is pushed into the wither which will break the blocks since he is being damage from suffocating in the bedrock. There is water streams that end the items in a hopper. To prevent the wither from dying there are a bunch of witches underneath the wither who are aggro towards each other and are throwing damage potions at each other. The way that the witches are being aggro'd is by a snowman who is shooting them. But when the witches try to throw potions back at the snowman they end up hitting the ceiling and hurting themselves.

With a player loading these chunks it is possible to have this farm run indefinitely while still stay automated. This farm produces about 15 stacks of end stone and 240 torches per hour. Enjoy!

Ray's definition of 'simple' means that it is at least comprehensible by us normal simpletons.

Sorry, I just can't go any simpler. :(

posted a message on 1.9 Simple AFK Chorus Flower & Fruit Farm!

    Hello there, Ray here!

I redesigned my old chorus flower farm and made a new one. Now it is simpler and more efficient! It uses no redstone, tools, armor, or beacon effects! The way it works is that the player will go afk while having both the right and left mouses buttons held down by using a trick. Then the player will have some chorus flowers in its first hotbar slot. This will allow the player to break blocks as well as place blocks at the same time. Now the player will be set in a water stream that will move the player pass a row of chorus plants. With the proper angle the player will just break off all the flowers of the plant. Then at the end of the row the player will be sent back to break all the stems of the plants and at the same time plant down new flower that will grow. After the player goes through several of these modules it will be sent back up to the top of the farm to repeat the process all over again. You can afk up to 11.5 hr before your inventory fills up. After you're done afk'ing you can take the flowers you got from the farm and have them planted in an open area so that they can produce more fruit.

With this farm in 1.25hrs of afk'ing and 4mins of manual planting you can get 60stacks of chorus fruit! :D

posted a message on How to Break some more Bedrock! 1.9 & 1.8 Vanilla Survival

    Hello there, Ray here!

Today I show how it is possible to use ender crystals to break any block including bedrock.

Ender crystals set a fire block in the middle of their entity hit box when in the End dimension. I use this mechanic to have the ender crystal set it's fire block in the same spot as a bedrock block is at. There is 2 ways to do this directly and indirectly. Indirectly is by having the ender crystal in a position where it will replace a block if one generates in that spot. Directly is by pushing and ender crystal and it's fire block into a block. Using these 2 methods it is possible to remove any bedrock in the end.

posted a message on 1.9 Dual Blaze Farm with Looting! (2000 blaze rods/hr)

    Hello there, Ray here

I made a farm that allows you to get the looting 3 effect of a sword on blazes while being afk. The way the farm works is that it uses a blaze spawner to spawn in blazes then it collects the blazes and has them crushed until they have 1 health point left. then the blazes are picked up with a minecart and dropped off in a pen with the player. The player has full diamond armor with the enchantments: prot4, ub3, thorn3, and mending. With the player and the blaze being in the same area the blaze attacks the player with it's melee attack and the player's thorn armor in turn kills the blaze. The player is also hold a looting 3 sword in its main hand which gives all loot the looting 3 effect. The player is also holding some cooked chicken in the off hand which comes from a chicken cooker. The food is used to prevent the player from starving to death on hard mode. There is also 2 beacons with regen and res2 effects to help the player take less damage from the blazes attack. There is also a dog with the player in case the thorns armor doesn't kill the blazes.

This farm is infinitely automatic which means it can operate indefinitely without stopping or in need of maintains from a player. It produces about 2000 blaze rods/hr with a double spawner setup.

Do you guys think this is something that you would use on your server or single player world?

posted a message on Help! Nether Portal keeps lighting me on fire!

This is because the nether portals work by taking you OW coords and dividing them by 8. The way it does this is by sending you to the OW coords divided by 8 in the OW first then sends you to those coords in the Nether. This means if you goto the OW coords of the Nether side nether portal you will find some lava there. I'm guessing your portal is down low near lava level? =)

According to this bug report 1.8 is also affected by the Thorns armor in hand bug (it should only take effect when worn), so you could probably take advantage of it:

MC-73710 Items with Thorns held in your hand will cause Thorns damage.

It doesn't work in 1.8. I think 1.8 was added to that bug report because the first version it showed up in was unknown.

Very interesting! Ugh, your making me want to update to 1.9 again! There's so many good things about 1.8 and 1.9, tough choice! Do you know if the resistance beacon trick works with other status effects and in 1.8?

1.9 is a lot of fun for creative, idk about smp. :P

I think it works for other low level effects in 1.8 too.

posted a message on 1.9 AFK Silverfish XP Farm that uses No dogs, beacon, or mending!

    Hello there, Ray here!

I made this farm after discovering a trick where holding a thorn armor piece in your hand will give your the thorns effect. Using this I have the silverfish drop with low hp near the player. Then when they attack the player they will be killed by the thorns effect. To keep the players health up I have him eat some cooked chicken that comes from my chicken farm. This allows the player to regenerate health before more silverfish come. To make the player hungry I have them jumping and running in place. The farm is setup for normal mode but you can tweak it for hard mode as well.

What do you guys think of this farm? It is not as simple as some xp farms but it doesn't use dogs, beacons, or mending either.

Nice find! I'm guess your server has it's seed private? I made an efficient farm design that works well with quad/quint intersections. Haven't updated it to 1.9 yet but it might give you some ideas.
