If you need to turn a long pulse into a shorter pulse, look up "pulse limiter", "Monostable circuit", "Edge trigger", or "edge detector". There are slightly different connotations for each, but apart from monostable circuit they should all give only results that describe how to send a short pulse after receiving a long pulse.

Alternatively, here's a simple pulse limiter I use regularly. Input on the left, output on the right.

putting repeaters to extend a signal will also mess your impulses...

To go into more detail on this, if a repeater has a higher delay than the length of the redstone signal sent to it, the signal will be both delayed and lengthened. Under any other circumstance repeaters will only delay and renew the signal.

I still think it would be more interesting to have a big device that does the work when you use it right, even if they decide to make only one design concept work which requires something that gets destroyed in the process.

Well the Armageddon block should obviously be removed (Either by fixing whatever code causes it or by making the game delete the block if it exists) but I think this is the sort of thing that should be handled like BUD switches, with the game-breaking glitches taken out but the rest being acknowledged as a feature, rather than like minecart boosters with the entire glitch being removed but something similar being officially added. Not really sure why, I just like the way it works now and think that a block that does the work for you wouldn't be as interesting in this case.

Pistons with the data value 7 or 15 (I think) will crash a server if powered, and I think will continue immediately crashing the server whenever it reboots.

But it's been a while since anybody's been able to produce one.

I've seen one that had a fence gate door included (i.e. not self-placed like yours) and the inside automatically went back into the ground so you didn't have to manually hollow it, but I don't know if it was as big and fence gate doors are not ideal.

Still comfused, don't they extent in 1.5 ticks.

If you still don't understand, look up instant wire on youtube. There's already some very good videos on the subject there to save us the trouble of trying to explain it here.

    SO MUCH INSTAWIRE.

But really, good work. I think somebody's made a 6 tick computer before, dunno about 5.

I like that boats break. I think it's a good balance for how easy they make crossing water. You have to steer carefully. However it just seems like a shame that we're discouraged from playing around with water currents and transporation by how fragile boats are.

They could add an Iron Boat or something, which is slower and/or requires coal power but is very difficult to accidentally break. Having iron and possibly fuel would make it a more expensive alternative in exchange for the durability.

Kind of getting away from redstone now though, the closest this gets is "mechanisms" that are very little redstone if at all or the fact that dispensers can place boats.

Actually, have you tried putting pressure plates on glowstone? The update summary said that they can be placed on transparent blocks, and only mentions stairs and slabs but that might also include glowstone.

About the properties of stairs in contrast to glowstone, can powered redstone on top of upside down stairs power other redstone one block lower? I know it doesn't work with glowstone and it probably doesn't with stairs, but it could be something else different.

I can understand emptying a water bucket, though personally I just right click back on my infinite water pool (empties it or fills it). Lava on the other hand I store despite the difficulty.

posted a message on Minecart Ball Splitter. Help!
I think it would be easier to just redesign the system in a way that the glitchy cart balls are avoided. If it's absolutely necessary however, I think that having an item on the minecart track does split the glitchy cart ball into several carts, though I don't know how one might collect them afterward.

posted a message on Odd behavior with RS torches

As shown in the video, most likely not very clearly, while under normal circumstances redstone torches do not react at all to a 1 tick "off" pulse, sometimes they react just as expected and turn it into a 1 tick "on" pulse. I don't know what causes it, but when the falling edge detector (or whatever you call it) with two 1 tick repeaters is aligned such that the long measurement is on the 1 / 3 facing axis, it works while other designs for falling detectors with identical design rotated 90 degrees are ineffective, and rising detectors with equivalent delays are ineffective in both orientations.
