posted a message on How to set up your own Local Area Network (LAN) Server
I don't know about anyone else, but I'm having problems getting my mate (on my laptop) to connect. I think I've got the right external IP, because my server program is saying he's taking too long to log in, but I can't figure out why it's saying that. That means my server knows he's there, but just isn't letting him in. >.<

But...why? I can't figure out what to do. I'm pulling my damn hair out over here.

I had the same issue, Try disabling your firewall and virus scanner.

I use avast and once i disabled that it worked like a charm! :biggrin.gif:

    Your router is OK then.
Is your server running on the same computer as your game?
Do people outside of your LAN network lag?
Have your tried hosting the server on the other computer?
Have you checked your CPU usage on the server's computer while it is lagging? (google check cpu usage)

I normally play on the same pc as the server, Until the map starts to get abit bigger and needs more pc usage then i turn on my spare pc and use it.

I myself do not lag when logged in by myself but as soon as my girlfriend logs in the server lags, I have tried restarting the server and only have her connect and it still lags.

I did try hosting from another computer with the same results

Running the LAN speed test just then got a speed of

    Write: 15.9105911 Mpbs
    read: 21.7335510 Mpbs

so i dont think my router is the issue? :sad.gif:
P.s cant remember if i said this, both drivers and firmware are up to date

Hey guys! looking for help once again :sad.gif:

I have been trying to play some adventure maps with my girlfriend but i have been having some non-understandable lag. We are playing on the same network, connected by a router and we are getting lag as if we were playing on other sides of the world!

    The server computer is running:

    AMD Phenom 9750 quad-core ~2.4GHz
    4gb ram
    5406 page file available

Running the basic minecraft server, Have tried both .exe and .jar version, Does anyone have any suggestions on what i can do to fix this?

I have tried setting affinity to CPU0 and changing priority - Btw im running Windows Vista

I have recently started a private servival server for myself, my girlfriend and a friend. However we are having abit of lag issues, Me and my girlfriend can play the game fine however my friend is experience lag that he said makes the game unplayable.

We are using a dedicated computer to host the server with specs:

    Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) 9750 Quad-Core Processor (4 CPUs), ~2.4GHz
    Memory: 3582MB RAM
Page File: 2500MB used, 4878MB available

I am pretty sure im running the newest version of java and i am also running minecraft server version Beta 1.2_01

Can anyone give me any suggestions for running this server alittle more playable?

Note max people i plan to have on this server is 3
