There are many myths about minecraft server hosting like more ram = less lag. I agree with the above if it ain't broke don't fix it!

I totally agree with that! :)

Thank you guys for replying!! :)

It's perfectly normal for a server's CPU to only show a usage of a few percent for most of the time.

Think of it like a car; for 99% of the time, you only need about 10 horse-power, but you wouldn't attempt to drive a car that only had 10 bhp, right?

If it's not on fire, it's fine.

Yeah I understand.. you are right it doesn't need always need a lot of CPU power

Its not just the plugins/worlds that are being metered, if you have no one loading in chunks in those worlds of course it wouldnt need to load it meaning it doesnt use cpu. If there are a tone of players all over the map loading a lot of chunks that would change quickly.

It uses more CPU when someone starts loading chunks and stuff. It just doesn't use as much as I thought it would... I guess that's all it needs

It also depends on how many players are on the server. If there are no players on the server the CPU usage will be VERY low, as almost no activity will take place.

Well usually there are 4 players online and CPU usage is still very low

If you're not having a problem, then.. there is no problem.

It's not really a problem, the server is running fine. It's just that everyone says that hosting a Minecraft server requires a beefy computer and that it uses lots of CPU power and stuff... But at least in my case it seems like it doesn't use that much CPU, I think it mostly depends on how much RAM you have.

Hello there, I host a small Spigot server with 27 plugins and 10 worlds in total. I have also allocated 4Gb of RAM to the server and I have set the network compression threshold to 64. Now according to all these and especially the threshold it should use a lot of CPU power... but CPU usage while running the server is always around 4-5% I think that's just too little... I don't know I think it should use more. Btw my CPU is an AMD FX8350. What do you think? Is this normal?

Yeah; it would possibly work if "downgraded" to Windows 7, or Linux, or whatever. But it would still be pretty slow on the more recent versions.

Yeah it's not worth downgrading to an older OS it will still run Minecraft slow anyways considering that last time I played Minecraft on that laptop was 3+ years ago...

    Yes, thanks.

Unfortunately, that graphics chip does not work properly for Minecraft under Windows 10.

The computer is too old, it does not meet the minimum requirements. Sorry.

Ohh goddammit :P That explains why I could play Minecraft on it a few years ago... it was on Win 7. Well thank's for the help! :D I guess I should get a new laptop someday hahah

Any computer that is "a few years" old isn't all that decent; technology moves on pretty quick. As it's a laptop, it probably uses a built-in graphics chipset, maybe Intel? Which are terrible for Minecraft.

Well the laptop is over 5 years old and I use as my secondary computer. Point is it could run Minecraft even at low FPS and now it can't run it at all and I don't know why. :/ I'll post DxDiag in a few minutes.
