Hadn't noticed it until you pointed it out, but yep. Of the two worlds I'm trying to decide between one has a lot of brown (2 thick brown bands), another has a lot of yellow. And my old world has a thick red band, with multiple thin yellows - but has a lot less banding in general than these other two.

posted a message on [1.8 + 1.7.x] RARE Seed! All Biomes within 2000 Blocks #02
I am quite a fan of this seed, though it probably won't become my home. I'm still looking.

I love that spot they've all pointed to. Particularly that you can see multiple biomes from where you set up. And if you drop into the ravine in the savanna in that area, you'll get some nice visible gifts when you get down to the lava layer to get a good start. You are also right at one of the strongholds in that spot. One thing I noticed, Amidst shows a lot of villages near spawn that aren't actually there.(as you often see when rivers go through where the village would be).

Something I'm finding as a personal preference in general as I look through these seeds, I'm very interested in the idea living in a spot with these soaring savanna plateau mountains for my view , but really can't imagine myself being excited by a spot where the foliage looks like its dying all the time. I wish that had been treated savanna like plains and not like desert when it comes to foliage.

Great job on this! I'm so glad I found this thread. Keep the seeds coming as you find them!

I've been busy in RL, so am only now sitting down to the game for the first time in a month, and was disappointed to find that even though we have so many more biomes, the bio-diversity on most maps actually is pretty awful within a reasonable distance of spawn. I play single player, and I don't want to have to go 15,000 blocks just to find the closest Jungle (for example).

My favorite spot in my old world was in a plains, where you could stand in one spot on a hill and see most of the other biomes (except for swamp).

I sat down with Amidst today, manually trying seeds for a few hours, and was disappointed to only find a few were even sort of interesting to me.

it would have been nice if when adding all the world generation options, they had an option to turn off like-biomes-next-to-like-biomes. I like variety for my game far more than I like the pseudo-realism.

posted a message on 1.5 Wither skeletons now suffocate in 2 high spaces
Just noticed this - Previously, wither skeletons that spawned in 2 high spaces just sort of got stuck there with their head in the ceiling, prevented from moving. There's a bug for it, that's still marked as open (https://mojang.atlassian.net/browse/MC-2516),

Apparently it was actually fixed somewhere along the way in 1.5 bug fixing (not sure when, only saw it today in the pre-release). Now they still spawn, but immediately start to suffocate and die.

I think some of you greatly under-estimate gaming communities.

I know people who still play nethack and have been doing so for the past 25 years. Even server based games - a MUD server I played on back in 20 years ago is still around, complete with the public builds I contributed to.

Heck, if I'm really feeling notalgic, I can go play a few Atari 2600 games and those are 35 years old now, and I'm still looking for the version of Adventure (fortran text based game - that had the extended overworld with the chapel and stables) also from that era.

I frequently get the urge to go back to quite a few old games, that I once loved. For some of them, the companies have recently or will soon finally put out new versions, 10+ years after they had stopped development.

I believe Minecraft is one of those types of games. A game that people will keep coming back to, whether its officially supported or not.

posted a message on Furnace with hoppers occasionally losing items?
Has anyone seen a problem like this?

In my store room, I have two sets of this setup - a Furnace is fed materials to process from a chest through a hopper that attaches to the top. its fed fuel from a chest through a hopper that attaches to the side - and the results go through a hopper underneath into a chest. Should be a pretty basic setup.

Most of the time, everything is fine in either setup. But Every once in a while, I go off somewhere in my base while things cook and I come back to find the furnace is off and empty, and the result chest is empty. Actually all the hoppers are empty and all the chests are empty.

This happens with just one of the two setups. The other is fine. At first I thought it had to do with the furnace running out of fuel, and there being nothing in the fuel chest. But i couldn't make that happen when I tried to reproduce it.

The only difference between the 2 setups is the one with problems feeds the fuel from the right side, and the one without problems feeds the fuel from the left side (they're mirror images). Even though its feeding from the right side, the furnace looks right while its cooking, and most of the time I get the correct results.

At first i thought I must have taken out the items and just forgot. But I saw it do it twice today when I know I didn't take the items out - out of like 10 different cooking attempts, once with iron, once with cobble.

I've tried several things to reliably reproduce it so I can bug report it, but i'm not sure what the right combination is.

    i am still on 13w04a.

posted a message on WASD or Arrow Keys?
WASD is not a comfortable position for anyone who was taught to touch type in the stone ages. To me the idea was good, but the choice of keys (because w indicated walk) is a dumb one. Turns your hand into a bit of a claw, and you are always reaching for the key you use most. I've always remapped every game to DSFC, which is a much more comfortable hand position for me. My fingers resting on FDSA, and the raised dot on the F makes it easy to know you are on the right keys without looking. D is the forward key. C for backwards is the only one off home base, but I don't go backwards as often as forwards.

I also remap a lot of other keys so that for the most part, similar behaviors in different games use the same key.

I gotta say, I like these. I can see myself playing with a few of these on. I got used to my server where the creepers didn't blow up builds (to prevent griefing) and I really got used to it.

Another thing you can do is look up some of the old Lets Play videos on You Tube, from some of the long term LPers. There's quite a few who have been doing it since Alpha. Look for ones that are more than a year old. Just remember, don't assume something you see in those older videos still works that way, because a lot has changed.

posted a message on Recreated 1.3 maps in 1.4 - different locations for abandoned mineshafts
I don't think the button (which sits right next to the Rename and Delete buttons on the single player world select) does anything different than just retyping in the seed. Basically, it gives you a Create New World dialog, with the seed value already populated.

    Quote from BC_Programming

Sounds like you don't really need to be using bukkit, and could probably just use the default server.

I've thought about using bukkit, just for some of the fun plugins it offers, which is probably why the OP is.

posted a message on Recreated 1.3 maps in 1.4 - different locations for abandoned mineshafts
I recently made a 1.3 map that I really love, has a lot of nice features for my playstyle for the long term, that I had explored extensively, but I hadn't built much in it yet. So, I thought I would use that handy new "re-create" button and start it over in 1.4 (yes, I know that's little more than just copying the seed), get my village carrots and witch huts, etc.

Initially, everything looked identical. Surface biomes generated just as they were in 1.3. My 2 nearby villages were just where I left them with carrots and potates. My near-surface dungeon was there (and first zombie it spawned for me was a zombie villager). My caves were just where they were before. My swamp, exactly as it was before but also had a nice new witch hut. Stopped by the stronghold, the jungle and desert temples. Same chest items and everything. My 4 nearby nether fortresses were just as I remembered. (ya, i love this seed)

And then, I went to find my extensive abandoned mineshaft with really great attached dungeons (including a double, side by side zombie and skeleton). and it wasn't there (I actually tp-ed into stone)! I doublechecked I was in the right place, and nope. Not there. In fact, the cave system that went to it was similar, but slightly different. Mostly I could traverse my usual path, but there was a lava pool where there wasn't one before, and a new waterfall. I checked on a few other abandoned mineshafts I knew about, and those also were missing.

At first I thought I didn't have any at all, but I did some x-ray and found one, in an entirely different place than it was in 1.3. And overall, this map at least, has a whole lot less of them than I had before.

I have another 1.3 map that I know pretty well, and I'll check on that one as soon as I get some time.

I just wasn't expecting this "side effect" of 1.4.

Anybody else see this, or is it just my one beloved map?

I think I was lurking because I was wishful for one last chance to log in, look around, maybe take some screenshots before the server shut down completely. There's some beautiful building that was done there. I know I wasn't there long, but I had grown fond of the place. Going to miss it.

How did you find us?: Minecraft Forums

Why do you like our server?: The rules in place and choice of plugins suits my play style and personality very well. I also spent a fair amount of time looking around at the building and was impressed by the creativity and maturity it showed across your playerbase. The chat was pleasant and helpful, not full of bragging teens. And I really like the emphasis on using the farmworld to keep the normal world attractive.

Any suggestions?: I'm relatively new to multiplayer (and only slightly less new to minecraft), so I don't really have the experience to make suggestions at this time. Give me a few weeks, I may think of something.

Have you read our rules?: Yes, I have.

Anything else we should know about you?: I'm probably older than your average minecraft player, and while newish to minecraft, I've been around online computer games for very long time, I like to be creative, and have fun, but I'm a fairly quiet person.
