posted a message on Snapshot Survival Question
So I've never wanted to play snapshots, until the 1.7 snapshots. I'm just curious if I start a survival world on one of the snapshots not everything is implemented yet will everything update or will I have to restart once 1.7 releases.

Ex. The trees have not been retextured or replaced the oak placeholders. When they add this, IF they do will it change all the trees or will I have to restart the world.

Ex. Before the Red sand if I had started the world would it have added red sand to loaded chunks already, or would a restart be needed to implement that feature?

Basically I'm asking can I start early or would the world need to be restarted when 1.7 and whatever features they add is released?

    Thanks,

    Inkless

    Quote from teckmaster

just for comparison, I have a better rig than you and I get about 30fps. sometimes its in the 20's. I used to get a few hundred fps. my specs:

    hd7970
    1055t oc to 3.8ghz
    8gb ram 1450mhz 7-7-7-19

I wouldn't quite agree that you have a better rig. The only thing that looks better is the 7970. The 1055t is basically the same as the 1100t just that the 1055t doesn't come with pre unlocked cores. The 1100t is just easier to OC and it does run faster at stock than the 1055t. For you to be only getting around 30fps is a little concerning. Unless you are running mods, something is wrong with your rig. You may be experiencing bottlenecking or outdated drivers to be causing such an issue. The ram for comparison is debatable. Why I say debatable is due to the fact many tests have been run and higher frequency does not mean faster and tighter timings does not guarantee better performance. Just look it up in google you will see a debate that has been going on for years.

In other words, I get more fps with opengl off. If opengl is on it keeps my fps at a constant 30ish fps. Is that common for OpenGL to cause such a dramatic change on a higher end card?

Alright, thanks BKrenz. The information you provided is very helpful. I will remove my allocated ram and check the results. I'm aware that anything above the refresh rate in fps is pointless, but why I am asking or posting this thread is to see if my hardware was running fine. Or if something was wrong causing it not to achieve maximum performance. I'm just curious if what I'm running is about normal or not.

    Thanks,

Alright this post is not to brag about my setup. What I need to know is what kind of fps should I be getting around? I have Minecraft runnning at a resolution of 1920x1080. I have 6gb dedicated to minecraft (-Xmx6144 -Xms3072). The fps I usually range around is about 75fps-110fps. I'm running everything on max. Now my question is should I be getting more fps from my hardware or is this about average amount of fps for my rig? I'm just seeing people running Minecraft with 500fps+

I would imagine my graphics card isn't too outdated to run a higher fps, but it's 2 years old.

    Drivers are up to date.
MSI Twin Frozr III 6950 2gb OC Edition with unlocked shaders. Usually running around 50 Celcius.
    8gb of ram (2x4gb's) timing is 9-9-9-24 and frequency is 1600 OC'ed to 1656
Amd Black Phenom II 1100T OC Edition running at 3.8ghz running around 35 Celcius
    Windows 7 64bit

If any other information is needed to make a judgment, just let me know.

    Thanks,

    Inkless
