    -September 29, 2017-
    v0.17.0 is now live. There's too much to list in detail here, so here's a summary: Ported pack to newest Minecraft version, remade stone and ores, added some entities, added beds, and remade the torch.













    Theme
    The goal for this resource pack is to provide Minecraft with a more appealing and defined visual experience; just enough to retain the pixel-art aesthetic of the game, but with a high enough resolution that there isn't a constant shortage of pixel definition. I think 32x is the perfect resolution for this goal.

    As for the design of the textures, they're semi-faithful; they don't deviate from the default appearance to the point of being completely unrecognizable, but their style is somewhat different. Compared to the vanilla textures, Polychromata's brightness range varies more noticeably, hues are more dynamic, and saturation is generally more subtle and easier on the eyes.

    Basically, everything is produced with a higher standard of quality than the default textures, with more harmonious visuals and immersive details. The texture designs are made with logic and immersion in mind, based on their crafting recipes (if any) and their uses. This pack is essentially what Minecraft might have looked like if someone who knew what they were doing made its textures.

    Development Plan/Stages
    Alpha (0.X.X) (Current)
    In which I make as many new textures as I can. This stage is very progress-oriented, so I won't focus much on improving textures I've already made.

    Beta (0.X.X)
    The pack will reach beta status once I've made every vanilla texture I plan to. During this stage, I will focus on improving textures and adding that extra "polish" of quality, in preparation for the full release. Polychromata might not be drastically altered during beta, but it will see many improvements and optimizations.

    Release (1.X.X)
    The pack will reach this stage once I'm satisfied with it, and I've deemed it capable of being called "complete." This is not the end of development, however. In addition to the inevitable improvements to be made, I will begin adding mod support.

    I'm not even sure what you're suggesting. If you're suggesting an optimized texture to cause as little framerate loss as possible, it would have to be very flat (i.e. no fine detail) and have a very small palette. Think Sphax, but heavily aliased and saved in an 8-bit (or lower) format.

    But that doesn't really make a difference, since even the pixels for a flat black square are all still loaded and consume video RAM. The only significant difference is that the files would use a little less space in hard drive memory.

    The only way to improve the framerate is to use textures with less resolution than default (i.e. 8x8, 4x4, 2x2, 1x1). Anything above 16x is going to use more memory, no matter what.

    Alpha rendering makes a few of the pixels look strange, but I don't think it's too noticeable since the texture is constantly moving.

    I do think your grass could use some more detail or random variants with flowers or something like that. It looks, in comparison to that nether-brick, almost like a lower-resolution texture. But I still love your pack













    I'll think about adding some flowers and more detail to the grass. Flowers are going to be a rare tile, though. ;)
