If you were near the surface it could've been a cow.. lol. The new cow sounds like he's about to die himself.

I would really like it if they implemented a minimap instead of me having to go get a mod for it. Maybe just an option or something... Makes it much easier then having to hold it

In my opinion, I like the new sounds. I don't like complaining about stuff Mojang did for updates. And I doubt the sounds will be changed, the opinions of only a select group of the MC community is not enough. If all of the community absolutely hated the new sounds they'd change them. I'm sure you can find a mod out there to change the sounds.

Apparently as far as I know the only way a mob will drop exp is by causes of player actions.

I use them to ward off creepers.. Also to make your house not be engulfed in awkward silence. Every 2 seconds you got a cat going MEEEWW. Really brightens up the place!

It seems mobs have been using portals a lot most recently, they've always been able to. There was always a warning that a ghast might get through if you didn't have a small enough room. However, just building a small house in the nether around your portal might contain them from wandering to far. Concealing your portal in the overworld with an iron door, will be enough to stop them as well. Hope this helps!

I'll tell you the same way I convinced my friend! (I had a similar situation).

1. Explain to him that information on Minecraft can be hard at times, and that he will possibly need a source of information. However, make sure he understands that the sources of reliable information on Minecraft can be limited, or sprung down to the bowels of this forum.

2. Also, show him some facts about how the wiki has helped you, maybe he will get a pin pointed fact from you that it can be resourceful in information.

3. Try to show him that "Yes I understand the wiki can be edited by anyone! However some of the facts are true, on the MC Wiki misinformation is less common than most other wikis. Sometimes you can find that true for some game wikis. Although some facts can be predictions, the wiki is a valuable treasure town of information on Minecraft.

4. If none of these worked or helped, maybe the wiki just isnt for him.

Yes I believe its something to do with my computer. Possibly a missing network driver somehow messing with it.

Are your key bindings correctly bounded? Such as pause isnt bound to left click or right click? Could be connection issues game error or server issues.

My Minecraft wont connect to minecraft.net, even though my friend has no trouble at all connecting. Is there an issue with the login right now? If anyone else is having problems reply! If you have the fix let me know!
