the map generator has change, so when a new chunk (1.0) is generated it doesn't flow from the old generated chunks (1.7 or 1.8). you will have to edit the map to fix it but use a bukkit mod to get brushes that can smooth the land between chunks.
I'm debating if I should host my server on a hosting site or just port forward. You people could be a great help I suppose.
What's safer to do?
Any advantages/disadvantages? If so specify.
If there is any good hosting sites you've used or hear of leave a link for it below.
1: It is safer to have someone else host it for you. If the server does get hacked, it isn't on your network.
2: It is harder to control a remote server if something goes wrong. (It has with me, I locked myself out once) It cost $$$ to have a remote but internet speeds are faster. Your home connection may not have enough up bandwidth to host. (>1Mb up) With a home server, you can control it with other means than SSH and replace/upgrade hardware.
3: Go google search it.
no u can't get a 1.8.1, and any u get off the web could have extra code that might steal passwords, just keep backups from now on. and pls stop bumping
test is with someone else than your friend, then you can find out if it is only your friend or not. (go to his house and u try logining in from there) check to see if white-list is on or not or max ppl is set to one etc. If your port forward is going to your private IP it should work.
i'm fine with the endermen but i don't want them messing up trees, landscapes, and my buildings. I (+friends) have a city that is big and we don't want to have to keep fixing our rail system or buildings. We just want to keep making new ones not guarding and fixing all day/night long. i think it is more how people play minecraft, if they want them they should have them but a option to turn off there ability to move blocks would be nice for ppl who want to play it their one way.
don't set the ip address in the minecraft config it messes things up. you can connect with local ip without port forwarding but ppl from the outside will need a public ip. you could just type in your public ip to see if you can connect it should work.
well they and you would have to update to 1.8 vanilla unless you all run cracked versions of minecraft. if you are lucky bukkit will work with 1.8 soon since the beta release of 1.8.
Thanks for your reply. I have followed the guide before and correctly forwarded ports, however I don't think I set up a static IP. I'll do that and get back to you.
EDIT: I set up a static IP according to the guide on portforward.com and forwarded 25565 again according to the portforward.com guide, but canyouseeme.org yields a "Connection refused" error. Any suggestions on what to do?
well make sure you test connecting from a different ISP than your own. I can't connect to my public ip but other people can so just test from some other people's wifi. also in the mc config leave the server ip blank.
minecraft may be having a memory leak. redownload the minecraft server jar. update java. there is not too much you can do to fix minecraft from using up too much memory since it is running in java that manages the resources. a custom server like bluefroggy99 suggested will cut back on the RAM a lot. the only thing is it may not get updated right away when a new minecraft release comes out.
SO im in a server and i was wondering how big i need to make the spleef arena... lik how tall from the ground how wide and how long?
how ever big you want it. the floor can be one block thick or 3 thick. it really doesn't matter but build it for the standard amount of ppl that will play in it.

yes. so from your modem or router (or both) tell it to forward the ports to your internal IP. you can find it by typing "ipconfig /all" in cmd.

edit: you may even want to try gnome instead of unity

winrar is shareware and just wants you to buy it. 7zip does the same thing and is free. idk why people still use winrar it is horrible.
