Like the other guys said branch mining is the best method but if you want to have fun while mining diamonds you should go for caving.
(In my opinion, branch mining is super-duper boring)
I am really good at mining. I can find diamond ores really quick like in my first caving in 10-20 minutes. Because my instincts are really good at telling me where the diamond ores are.
I have lots of exp. in survival. I really rarely login to servers. Because I love playing survival with my friends. Sometimes we even do PvP survival. From begining we split up for surviving; after a 1 or 2 hours of surviving, we continue with PvP.
I am really bad at redstone like my head explodes when I try to learn it xD (Copying from YouTube is the best :D)
Also sometimes I am really good at building. But in this game, the thing I love most is caving.
Very expensive. If you have that much slimeball than you must have been playing the world for a long time. If you played this long, than you should have a Silk Touch Pick. (Sry for bad English)

I have a problem. Game not opening for me since I installed NEI. Whenever I delete the files (ChickenCore and NEI) the game works fine.
My forge version is 804.
