It's funny how people complain about the lag it causes yet I have never had this lag. I play SMP and SSP and have never experienced lag from XP orbs.
Possibly for the same reason I don't experience lag, I didn't buy my computer off the shelf at Walmart I got a custom built rig for gaming.

I'm not sure where exactly to post this, but lately on our SMP server, creepers are spawning in our houses. The doors are closed, the area is fenced off with plenty of light in and out of the house, but the creepers just manage to get inside anyway. Obviously, most of the time we're caught off guard and they blow up ruining our creations. Is there anything we can do to stop those creepers from spawning inside our houses? The server is vanilla with NO mods installed.
Any help would be appreciated.
Best advice I can give you is make sure you keep your brightness set to moody so you can see dark places in your house and make sure there are no dark places in your house.

That is 14 items of food and 4 of them are stupidly easy to obtain to large quantity very quickly. We don't need more food. We need new items, new blocks, new ores, new tools, FURNITURE, HOLY CRAP, How about furniture, sure can't sit on a sandwich, well I guess you could but then nobody would eat it. Maybe tables, or chairs we can sit in, How about the ability to select pictures when hanging on walls, Custom pictures, custom records. The Aether, yes lets have Notch work on the Aether. Or Fix the way NPC villages spawn so you don't have roads 10 blocks below the doors. Maybe Better looking NPC villages. Heck Id love Notch to have the SMP server program integrated into Minecraft so we can migrate our single player worlds to multiplayer servers without loosing our inventory items and bed spawns so we could invite other players over to our world without having to move the world file around between .minecraft and your server folder. You know like how Terraria does.
But no no, Sandwich is a great idea, Id rather have that.

There is one thing that really bothers me when it is about decorating my house on Minecraft: the paintings!
They are nice and stuff, but get the one you find that fits better with a certain place can be a pain most of the times. To me, at least. It just happens that to get the picture I like, I have to place and remove the frame so many times, that sometimes I pass the picture I want by accident and have to do it all over again. Or worse! When i finally get the one I like, I find out that I placed it on the wrong place and so I have to remove it and try AGAIN.
So my suggestion is, that in a similar way of how we make signs, paintings would present us a screen with the pictures available when we place a painting on the wall. Like, we put the frame on the wall, the screen comes up with all the pictures, we chose which one of them we want to be on that painting and presto! The picture we wanted is on the wall. Got it on the wrong position? No problem! Just remove and chose which one again. No more left, right, left, right, left, right, left, right, left, right, left clicking until we finally get the image we want. That is annoying after a few seconds!
I agree. Hell the phrase I agree does not do justice to how much I agree with this. Also Custom Paintings would be cool.

Um, This has been suggested already. You can use string to make wool, so thats another use for it. you can make finish rods as well as bows too. also, you spelt "String" wrong in the discription. :s
Ropes would be cool, maybe a grappling hook?

No, and no. In a normal game of survival, animals will not respawn. They will only spawn when a chunk is newly generated.

Since animal breeding isn't in the game yet I've started capturing animals in a fenced in area so that I can start breeding them when that comes out hopefully in 1.9
Sep 23, 2011If a creeper gets too close to you and explodes and you survive but take damage from it you have a 5% chance of being infected by the Creeper Virus, it causes you auto charge towards hostile mobs, other players, or npcs on sight and you have you fight the urge by mashing directional keys away from them to keep from getting in too cause cause if you do you'll "ssssssssssssssssssssss" *BOOOM* and die.Posted in: Suggestions

When you build a base you can set up rooms with certain conditions met that let an NPC move in, and certain NPCs will not move in unless you have met a requirement in the game
I would work it more like this
Condition 1 for NPCs - Your base/town must be fairly safe
The NPC's quarters must be fully enclosed with a door and proper lighting
Condition 2 - The NPC must have comfort objects
The NPC will require a place to sleep, a surface that functions as a table, a chest to keep their goods in. and unless their quarters are inside of another building one window to see the outside world
Condition 3 - Proper Marking of their quarters
The NPC will require a sign on a block adjacent to their door that states the room is theirs, without this sign they will move out.
Condition 3 - Dependent Upon the NPC special conditions will be required for them to move in.
-Villager - The Lifebood of your settlement, they require Conditions 1 and 2 be met, Condition 3 for individual homes containing single individuals or families a Blank Sign will be placed outside and their family name will appear on it. If the Sign is just marked as Villagers then multiple families can move into one room and share a space, the max number of villagers will be determined by the available room. if the area is properly lit and has 10 beds, 10 single chests, and 1 table per family or individual you can have up to 10 villagers
Villagers keep your economy alive by buying and trading amongst themselves, if your village is prospering they will gift you resources. If it is failing they may move out.
-Merchant- Sells general goods such as Food, Tools, and Animals, They require Conditions 1 and 2 be met, their Quarters must be marked by a sign reading "Merchant" they will not share their quarters with other NPCs and require their own private living quarters in their shops (A bed). They will require a crafting table, a double chest, and a furnace. They may occasionally send you out resource gathering so they can make new goods to sell. (this is optional and can be done whenever). They require at least 3 Villagers living in your settlement. When a Merchant is satisfied with you they will start carrying Diamond Tools in limited supply in their shop.
-Alchemist- Sells Dyes, Gunpowder, Water & Lava (for empty buckets), and Glowstone dust. They require Conditions 1 and 2 be met, Their sign must read "Alchemist" a crafting table and a double chest. their own private living quarters in their shop, a Merchant, and 8 Villagers. They may occasionally send you out to collect resources so they can expand their shops inventory. When they are satisfied with you they will start carrying Dyed Wool, TNT, Glow Stone, and potions that do things like make you stronger for a period of time (faster mining), or make you less hungry (hunger bar depletes slower for the next 20 minutes)
-Doctor- Heals you for a price, sells new health related items. They require Conditions 1 and 2 be met, a sign outside their quarters that reads "Doctor" They require a double chest and a crafting table, and their own private living quarters. Once your village reaches 10 villagers The doctor will request you expand his shop into a clinic or build a clinic. A clinic will require room for 1 doctor per every 10 villagers (Special NPCs like Merchants, Alchemists, etc included in this count, other doctors are not counted towards the total and your total NPCs not counting Doctors can not move past 10 until you have 1 doctor per every 10 villagers/merchants/etc.) At this point the doctors will heal you at reduced cost and start selling healing potions that restore some of your hearts when you use it after taking damage regardless of the state of your hunger bar, the sign outside the shop must be changed to read "Clinic" at this point
-Farmer- They will tend your fields and deposit Wheat and Melon Slices for you in the closest double chest to the farm, They require a Farmhouse with one bed per farmer, one single chest per farmer,one crafting table in the farmhouse, and a a sign outside the farmhouse reading "Farm House" Each Farmer can handle a 4x7 area of crops and will work the closest field to the farmhouse with the other Farmers. For each crop they harvest they will take 1 piece of wheat or melon slice for themselves and replant the seeds from where they harvested the crop if they have the available seeds. They will not deposit left over seeds in the farm chest. If the farmers like you they will sell you left over seeds and baked bread.
-Engineer- The Engineer will sell you redstone, redstone devices like levers, torches, repeaters, etc. and minecart tracks and such. They will require One double chest with at least one stack of redstone in it, and one stack of iron, a crafting table, and their own living quarters in their shop. their quarters must be marked with a sign reading "Engineer" They may occasionally send you out to collect resources. Once they like you they will sell you Powered Minecart Tracks, and drop their prices on regular minecart tracks and minecarts. You must have at least 8 Villagers before they will move in.
-Monk- They will act as a source of inspiration to your villagers and other NPCs making them like you faster, they will help the community by volunteering at other jobs. They require their own quarters with a sign that reads "Monk" They must have one bed, one single chest, and 15 Villagers including other NPCs and Doctors in this count. You must also have traveled to the Nether or The Aether (if its ever put in) and survived in either location for at least 20 minutes before a Monk will move in. Once your village grows past 20 villagers the Monk will request you build a Temple that can house multiple Monks, It will require you have been to both the Nether and the Aether, one bed and single chest per monk, and a sign outside their quarters that reads "Temple" when the Monk(s) like you enough they will start making beer and gift it to you on occasion.
These are just my ideas for NPCs and probably a bit too complex for this game. but its a thought.

Yeah, you've gone a lot more indepth with your thread though so I'll do my best to improve this one instead.
Notch really should implement some way to get flint easier.
Well since you are migrating your ideas to my thread I will edit my original post to mention your idea about how it should have a higher chance of dropping flint when you mine by hand vs shovel.

Apparently a lot of people like gravel. I'm not suggesting a new use for it though, I just want that tinder.
Well since I forgot to search this before posting an almost identical idea I will say the idea of getting it by hand at a higher percentage is a good idea, but for all the people who want it to remain as is I do understand their reasons, Gravel has alot of great uses, Scaffolding, placing it between walls so if a creeper blows up your wall the gravel falls and auto-patches the wall as a temp fix until you make a proper repair, as well as being good for roads and streets, although I prefer using cobble for my roads.

Launcher - login screen - 84,732k
Playing game for about 2 minutes 749,572 and climbing rapidly at about 3,000k per second
5 minutes in memory seems to attempt to stabilize around 740,000k but fails and slowly starts climbing again after about a minute at a rate of 100k to 1,000k per second occasionally dropping but not by enough to matter on its next climb
10 minutes in the memory has dropped back to around 740,400k after climbing up to around 760,000+
25 minutes in the memory seems to be stable around 740,000K-750,000k
a bit over an hour in everything seemed stable until I realized I needed glass, I head out to explore turns out I'm near an ocean biome where its chunks upon chunks of nothing but water, so i sailed north hopefully the next continent I find would be a desert, meanwhile on my right monitor I'm watching my memory jump up like crazy. getting to 850,000 So I believe the out of memory error comes from chunk loading had I kept going I'm fairly sure I would have crashed.

while leaving my base to collect some lava from an above ground stream I looked back at my base and saw a creeper hanging out on a ledge by the side wall, I moved closer he turned to look at me and promptly vanished
Sep 10, 2011If using a workbench and you leave an item on it when you pick it up you can get an extra item, I did this with cobblestonePosted in: News
1-put 1 cobble stone on work bench, had 63 in inventory
2-exit workbench, had 64 + 1 in inventory after picking up item
3-moved the one to a different inventory slot, 64+1+1 in inventory, but the last +1 was a phantom stone it didn't stack with the others.
Sep 10, 2011When using a workbench if you leave an item on the bench when you back out it drops to the floor where you can pick it up again, however the item also stays on the floor can not be picked up again and again, and if I knock out the floor blocks under it the items fall like they are there and can be picked up. I do believe this is related to an item duping bug others have reported.Posted in: News

1gb video card (dont know what it is since hes replaced the gpu since I built it, I do believe its an Nvidia though)

Athlon 64X2 CPU
350gb Sata 3.0gb/s HD
He says he used to get around 60fps now hes pulling 20 or less, and the game seems to run really fast then bam lag spike everything freezes up, its become unplayable for him
Now on my end I can confirm the game does run slower now as of 1.8 I used to get 60+FPS now I'm doing about 50-55
I have a Phenom x6 2.8 cpu
8gb DDR3 ram
and 1gb ATI Radeon 5850 (specifically the XFX XXX edition one)
750GB HD sata 6.0gb/s
