posted a message on Minecraft graphics update and BT
    Quote from SirenWing»

Has it been confirmed yet if Sony will at least be part of the graphics update if not Better Together?

That sentence doesn't make sense. But anyway...

Nobody really knows whether the playstation versions will receive any updates or not. It seems unlikely they will get anything more than possibly bug-fixes, because the other older console versions are not being updated (although they are being supported) - for example, the Xbox 360 version is 'discontinued'.

There is no "bedrock" version of Minecraft for the PS3 or PS4, and none has been announced. Sony and Mojang were unable to agree on terms for cross-platform play (example article about it).

Maybe eventually they will work things out, but for now the official word is, Mojang are "still in discussions with Sony about PlayStation and have nothing to confirm. We would love to work with Sony to bring players on PlayStation 4 into this ecosystem".[ref: FAQ]

posted a message on Minecraft Crashes When I try to load up hidden versions of Minecraft
    Quote from Scythal»

For some unknown reason, Minecraft crashes when I try to launch the following versions:

    2.0 (April Fools Version)

    Indev

    0.31

    Survival Test

    Early Infdev versions

And other versions not usually found on the launcher. (EDIT: It now crashes when I try to launch ANY version)

Running such old versions is challenging and, of course, not supported.

Firstly, you would need the correct version of java. For example, indev was 2010, so that'll be Java 6. Using a newer version is likely to cause errors.

Secondly, you may need to remove all of the 'modern' Minecraft files to get it working; the older versions were not able to run in their own directory, and if there are files in the folders (such as a modern options file), that can cause problems.

They may also require an older version of other system software, such as OpenGL, LWJGL, and so on.

The launcher still says, "Initializing No Sound" and "(Silent Mode)" but who cares, it works.

    my second pet's play video
    Please leave me feedback

I was disappointed to find that "Pet's Play" was just a typo; I was hoping to see a cat playing Minecraft :-) Only joking.

Your English is great. The microphone is not so good, but it's easy to understand you. A better mic would be great.

Why are you wearing that crappy gold amd chain armour? Iron is far better.

You cannot combine your mending and infinity bow; you can only have either mending or inf on a bow - as you found out. Enchant books, and put unbreaking (3) on it some time.

Your villagers in the farm, that "despawned" - they were probably hit by lightning. Next time, put a roof over them.

Strongholds are often 1000 blocks away, so it's best to throw 1 pearl, then walk about 500 blocks before trying again. When it changes direction, then go 500 that way. Then 250, then 125.

It's better to throw them in a clear area, and pillar up a few blocks. It is even worth cutting down trees, if you need to. When you throw it, be ready to look all around to see which way it goes, and keep watching, to see where it lands. Always try hard to collect it (if it does not break).

When you have the 'transparent blocks' - ghost blocks - it is when you have a fast tool. You can try to place a torch where they are, and they will reappear.

In the stronghold, break that silverfish spawner. They're not useful.

I think you should get better armour before going to The End. But... good luck!

I have also done the glass/bookcase trade to advance the trade unlocking occasionally. Just tend to use paper tho, perhaps its become a (bad) habit ...

The first time you trade a certain item, an offer is always unlocked. After that, it's only a 20% chance.

There is no need to trade paper more than once; then just buy one bookshelf, then buy 1 glass.

like most piston breaking designs, the breaking doesn’t make the dropped item go in the direction you’d expect

A little tip for you: if you put a line of iron fence above the water, it eliminates most of that problem. Not quite all, but most.

No need to get fancy with BUDs or observer-based designs that break the plants immediately. A good old row of pistons on an Etho clock

    I totally agree.

Personally, I often make it even simpler than that - I use a daylight sensor to fire it once per day.

At the very start of a new world, I plant a couple of long rows of about 64, and harvest them by hand - to get enough for my first level 30 enchanter. On any convenient terrain, such as a straight-ish coastline, or just a long trench in desert. And I just harvest them by hand once or twice. That is, unless I get books from a village or two, in which case I might not bother at all.

After that, a few stacks per day is surely more than anyone ever needs, for ... well, what? A bit of paper for maps, and rockets... maybe bookshelves but I tend to remove a stronghold library full of those. And they're not a good villager trade, compared to easier crops (carrot/tater using bonemeal or farmers).

posted a message on Adjacent Nether Fortresses?!
    Quote from mrobaer»

Has this ever happened to anyone before, adjacent fortresses? I didn't think it was possible....

Yeah, it happens. It's not common, but it's not that rare.

It's worth knowing that fortresses generally form along the same x-axis, so if you find one, and head due North (or South), you're more likely to find another. Conversely, if you can't find one, head East or West until you do - because if you just go N/S, you might not find one for a very long time.

Sometimes, they intersect, creating one larger fortress. This can also result in two blaze-spawners within activation range, which is quite nice. It can also be really good for expanding part of the fortress to make large, open areas for wither skells to spawn in.

Remove and reinstall Minecraft. If it's still a problem, post in the relevant support part of the forum - this is 'discussion', not support.

posted a message on Snapshot 17w43a, no sound (EDIT: FIXED in 17w43b)

In the recent snapshot, 17w43a, I get no sound at all. This happens on a fresh, vanilla install. Previous versions work. The launcher log shows lots of "Missing sound for event". The problem has been logged with Mojang by several people, and they are redirected to MC-121276 which, despite the misleading description ("Loading files from data packs and sounds ignores sub folders"), is apparently related.

    [Client thread/INFO]: Reloading ResourceManager: Default
[Client thread/WARN]: Missing sound for event: minecraft:ambient.cave
[Client thread/WARN]: Missing sound for event: minecraft:block.anvil.break

    ...etc, for all sounds, then...

[Client thread/WARN]: Missing sound for event: minecraft:weather.rain.above
[Sound Library Loader/INFO]: Starting up SoundSystem...
    [Thread-2/INFO]: Initializing No Sound
    [Thread-2/INFO]: (Silent Mode)

As it is a snapshot, bugs are expected - but unfortunately, no sound makes it unplayable. Which is a shame - it seems a LOT better performance than previous versions, so I hope it gets fixed soon.

Have others got it working? Does anyone know of a work-around to get the sounds?

    fast!

    missing out on sound

I have exactly the same results; the snapshot seems much faster than 1.12.2, but sound is not working.

See MC-121276 - the description there is a bit misleading, but it is really a bug logging several people reporting just 'no sound'.

Check the logs, ff it's the same for you, you will see lots of "Missing sound for event:" messages.

Of course, being a snapshot, this sort of thing is expected. It's great to see the performance has increased...I just wish I could play it more to try other things, but without sound, I wouldn't last very long. I did play it for about 10 mins, and everything just seemed so much smoother (than 1.12). The FPS fluctuated more than it used to, but I think it was, on average, 2 or 3 times what I got previously.

I've posted separately about the error in the support forum, "Snapshot 17w43a, no sound".

Oh look, yet another example in my previous post above; for some bizarre reason, it puts code like div class="quote-body" into the text.

I'm sure we ALL, here, see that all the time, if we post a lot.

There's so many bugs, it's hard to know where to begin, but hey, if the forum owners don't care about it...*shrug* - I guess this forum already has enough reputation to survive for a while.

Just a shame that things are not being addressed, there are SO MANY issues with the software.

If the forum owners can't be bothered fixing things, it's a bit silly if I care. I think I'll quit for a week or so, take a break; the bugs are so frustrating, and the lack of response to the problems is, really, quite pathetic.

Not 'rage quitting', not drama, just ... had enough of the problems, and hope one day they get fixed. For now,

    cya
