posted a message on Morph - Turn into almost any mob!
I've looked around in here but haven't been able to find a clear answer. Does anybody here have experience adding abilities to certain morphs? I'm currently using this mod with the Animals+ mod, and while I can morph into the animals from that mod, none of them have supported abilities. For example, as a butterfly, I just flop around on the ground uselessly, haha. I wouldn't mind editing this myself (someone said something about an "abilities" json?), I just don't want to mess everything up in the process!

Hi! I'm having a lot of fun messing around with the 1.8 preview, so I thought I'd let you know of a few interesting issues I bumped into! I'm not sure all of these are necessarily caused by the patcher, but I figured the more information the better.

Firstly, I noticed that I started experiencing a lot of lag after patching. It was very similar to server lag, except I was in singleplayer. I'd break a block, and it would drop its items, and I could walk over the spot where it had been, except the block would still be there! It would often take several seconds for the block to disappear, and sometimes I'd get to see through the world for a few seconds where it used to be before the textures behind it updated.

Secondly, and way more interestingly, I discovered a weird world generation glitch. I've been playing 1.8 a lot since it came out and did not experience this glitch until after I installed MCPatcher, but I think this may have been a coincidence. However, I'll put it here just in case! I was exploring my recently-generated world, and came across this chunk that didn't seem to have loaded properly.

Once I entered the area past the funky generation (where my character is currently standing), I couldn't move, as if I was stuck in a block. So I logged out and back in, only to discover that the terrain had regenerated! Here's a picture of the exact same spot after I logged in:

So anyways, those are pretty much the only bugs I've experienced so far since I started using the 1.8 preview. Thanks so much for putting so much work in this, it's wonderful!! :)

    Nice!

It would be nice to have the jungle and desert temple too, as well as the new ocean monument. And don't forget about the banners.

Also can you set the spawn point to the main room instead of the roof?

Oops, I didn't realize the spawn point was on the roof, that's my bad!! Heh.

So many ideas! I'm loving them! I think I might just have to add another long biome-box-style hallway with all these naturally spawning structures and a few example builds.

I'm a little worried about how I'd do the banners though. I have a white banner as a sort of general example, but I wasn't sure how many different banners I wanted to put up in the end. After all, the number of unique banner styles is something like 809 quadrillion... and I think I'd waste away into nothingness before I got that many banners up on display, haha. Do you think I should stick with the 16 base colors?

Kab probably used the hardened ice. Hardened ice is very useful in adventure maps because it looks so similar to ice except that it isn't transparent.

Kab (or more accurately, the awesome minecrafter that took over his map for him) used both--since it's a texture pack showcase map, and people might make different textures for the two different blocks, it's sort of a necessity to have both ice blocks displayed on any good texture showcase map. There's no question that both types of ice are displayed. I just want to know how the non-packed ice is being kept from melting, as I've tried the icemelt command and it doesn't seem to be working.

Either way, the point isn't about this other map--I used that as an example, but my interest is in the ice in general.

    I like this map.

Perhaps having some example builds put together on the map would be nice :)

Good idea! I'm also thinking of adding a section with a naturally-spawned village, so maybe I'll but them together somewhere.

It's very nice, or "swish" as some might say, but i think that you could do with moving away from default colors a little more. Also having the edited deault glass is a big no-no, as it's Mojang's property.

Hi! I'm not sure if you actually read this post or not, but just so you know, as it says in the title and the post, this post isn't about the partially-made texture pack I was using, it was about the actual showcase map :) So comments about the map itself are helpful to its development, but comments about the texture pack are sort of pointless as that's not what this post is for. Thanks!

Hi! I was wondering how you keep your ice from melting on this map? It's in a very brightly lit area and never seems to melt, yet whenever I try to place ice in similar areas on my own maps, it melts! It's incredibly frustrating and I was wondering what your secret is XD

Hi! I'm currently working on a 1.8 texture pack showcase map, but I'm having one incredibly annoying problem: my ice won't stop melting!! I've noticed that in maps such as Kab's Texture Pack showcase, he has the ice block on display, even very close to glowstone, and it doesn't melt! Does anyone know of a way that I, too, can do this? It's incredibly frustrating not being able to place ice around without it melting :/

    Thanks in advance!

Ambient occlusion is basically smooth lighting, and the "shadows" that appear on certain blocks to make them look 3D. Glowstone, despite being a light source, does cast these shadows (transparent blocks like stained glass do not). The glowstone block probably got overlooked when Mojang made the models, and somehow the bottom face got a brightness value of 1.0 instead of 0.5.

Not sure if it's important, but it wasn't just one face--it was the whole block. I even laid a wall of them out to double check the tiling of the texture, and all sides of it looked great. It glowed so beautifully!

Do you think it's possible for me to change it back to its lovely glowing state?

If the game is crashing, it's probably a modding issue. Resource packs alone generally won't cause the game to freeze or crash, because they don't really change any of the integral code or files in the game. You should probably check out the FAQ or troubleshooting forum for your Shaders mod if there is one, or any other mod you might be using, as it's more likely to be those than the resource pack.

If Minecraft was working on your computer before this, then it's probably not your computer either, but you could always try allocating more memory. I doubt that is the issue though.

Have you been able to use MCPatcher and the Shaders together before without Minecraft freezing or crashing? If not, try uninstalling the Shaders mod and reinstalling through MCPatcher--it has its own mod support and it can get temperamental with mods that weren't installed with it. You can find a guide to doing this on the main MCPatcher thread in this forum.

Probably glowstone used to have ambient occlusion off in its model, but has it on in the current snapshot.

Ooh, a term I haven't heard before! How exciting. What is ambient occlusion? Can I change it for the glowstone in my texture pack using any of the Patcher mods?
    Thanks for the tip!

Did anyone else notice the luminosity change in the glowstone recently?

A few days ago, I was running Minecraft on snapshot 14w06b when I tried out a new glowstone texture I made, and was VERY pleased with it! It looked REALLY luminous--I loved the way it actually looked lit up. I was quite proud of myself. The next day, I updated to snapshot 14w08a, and the luminosity was completely gone! The glowstone still gives off the same amount of light, but the block itself just doesn't look nearly as luminous. All I did was update the client and the patcher. Anyone know what happened?

EDIT: I am wondering if maybe the odd luminosity I liked so much may have been a bug itself--but even if it was I'd like to try and get it back!

    Hello again everyone!

I thought I remembered glimpsing a solution to this somewhere, but for the life of me I can't seem to find it. I've been using the lovely new grid format for all my grass and leaves since it first came out, but in the latest versions (I've had this problem in both 4.3.0 beta5 and 4.3.1_01, I took a bit of a break in between) I can't seem to get the grid palettes working. They were definitely working before 1.7.2.

Thanks to anyone who can help!

May I see what you've done?

Sure! It was pretty close to this:

Do I just still have certain places too bright? I know the lightning is taking over as it was originally purple, and everything turned purple xD Then I changed it back to yellow, and everything is yellow. The game looks quite funky!
