LOL ur parents would be willing to pay a potentially large lump sum to fix the computer instead of paying a lil extra to get a better plan. lame.
If you bother to read the original post, you would notice that the OP was willing to pay up $100 as a lump sum, not the OP's parents. I would venture to guess that the OP's parents are much like your own, they control the bills and what goes on them. Both you and the OP are actually in the same place, just your parents are more willing (or able) to pay more for certain services.
Well anyways i didnt get around to taking his card out so i dont know, Ill have to do it next time. Would be nice to know what was stealing it though.. I still personally think its something chipset related, Because the RAM is 1600MHz and in startup the bios said its frequency was 1333, And if im correct, I remember the slots support up to 2200MHz.
Off the top of my head... it's possible as well that the 8500GT is one of the dreadful abominations supporting 'TurboCache', which is where a low-end Nvidia card can steal system RAM and pretend it's video RAM.
Well I disabled the CPU'sonboard GPU and it hasnt affected the RAM what so ever, So ill try removing the 8500GT and plug into onboard graphics and see if it changes.
So my friend bought some parts for his computer (H55-USB3 Mobo, DDR3 Ripjaws (1600Mhz), and an i5 661 CPU) and i put them in for him and installed Win7 Ultimate 64-bit. So anyway the problem is, On the system page its saying theres 4GB of RAM, But theres only 3.8GB usable (Roughly, I forget the exact number). And being 64-Bit it should use it all, So my thoughts are theres something to do with the chipset/bios of the mobo, Or the RAM is faulty? Or im an idiot and its something that is easy to fix..
Well im not familiar with the peformance of ATI cards, But i would assume its the graphics card since the CPU and RAM are fine, You might want to consider getting a bigger PSU though because that is quite small of you plan on getting a peformance card. (Im talking from experience btw because ive ran Half-Life 2, and Portal on high setting (no AA), Running a 2GHz Dual core, 1GB of DDR1, and a 9400GT, And it ran absoloutly fine.
Hmm ok thanks, I checked out the site and i think i might buy some of their AS Bubblerap in the future, But for now i just bought some of those little sealable AS bags off ebay for $11 for 10 of them or something. And since the hardware was already on ebay, I needed them fast and i bought them from Australia.
So from my experience ive found that you can be quite rough with computer hardware and not damaging it (By rough i dont mean putting a hammer to a CPU's pins). Anyways im selling some old hardware on ebay and am curious about packaging, is anti-static packaging a must have or a safety precaution, because the only anti-static bag i have is the one that my GPU came in. Also, Is there an alternative, Or will i have to go chasing up anti-static bags, Thanks.
By the way im selling a Motherboard with RAM, and a CPU with a Heatsink.
I frequent an IT forum where a user claims he has a good understanding of PC hardware, yet he manages to use the risers to screw his motherboard straight onto the tray, and then bends half his CPU pins by forcing it into the socket the wrong way around. Monumental cock up which cost him a good bit of cash.
Hopefully someone can point the OP in the direction of a better quality prebuilt system.
You do mean he DOESNT screw the mobo on the stand-offs (Risers). :biggrin.gif:
Also, isnt it just common sence of how to put the CPU in rather than having knowledge about computer hardware?

The CPU has a built-in GPU, And he also has an 512MB 8500GT Card, and i cant think of anything else thats relevant..
