Just bought the game for my 2 kids.
Works fine on our Mac
Just tried 3 different Win7 machines - gives "Can't connect to minecraft.net" on them all.
Downloaded an old installer I found fron the forums, which did connect fine (but black-screens after downloading stuff)
What's up??? This is obviously a screwup in the new launcher.
And, for that matter, why give us such a crap error message? It would be more useful to tell us the problem, not the symptom - eg: can't resolve domain, no reply from server, java library returns error, can't parse resonse, .. whatever. Anything would be more useful than the nothing it tells us now - coz then we've got a clue as to where to look to fix it...
Can't connect to minecraft.net usually has these causes:
1) Windows Username has a (!) mark in the end of it.
Fix: Make a new windows user without !
2) Check date and time, SSL cert NEEDS a correct date and time to authenticate
3) Check firewall/security software on computer, make sure java is allowed through
4) If none of these work, please post a tracert to minecraft.net, the last solution involves a config issue.
That error is because you're using minecraftskins.com to directly update your skin. Their service hasn't worked since Mojang migrated their servers last December. The skin upload function does work at your minecraft.net profile page.
Download the skin that you want from minecraftskins.com, log into minecraft.net, and use the upload function on your profile there. Even through it doesn't return a confirmation page, it does still work. Check in-game to confirm.
What you're going to need is an RS latch hooked up to the pressure plate. The output of that RS latch will go into one side of an AND gate, with a 4-clock hooked up to the other input of that same AND gate.
The idea of that being, the RS NOR latch outputs an OFF signal by default. Once an ON signal comes through, from that pressure plate, it triggers the latch to output to ON, staying on constantly, even after the player steps off the plate. Both the output of the NOR latch, and the 4-clock pulse generator, will trigger the dispenser to fire.
To stop, you can place another dispenser at the end, and wire it to the "Reset" side of the RS nor latch.
Edit: Added pictures
This is your basic RS NOR latch, output is going up top, default state is off.
Once that RS latch receives a signal, from that pressure plate, it'll output an ON signal
This is the basic circuit:
The bottom left pressure plate is what triggers the dispenser, the bottom middle is the RS NOR latch, the bottom right plate resets the latch, stopping it.
The middle right is a 4-clock pulse generator, it's what gives the dispenser the alternating signal to keep it firing.
The center middle is the AND gate, it takes the 4-clock, and the signal from the RS latch, and only operates the dispenser when both are on.
Here's a look of the AND gate from the opposite side, note the redstone torch attached to the middle.
Yes, you can change it. Locate your .minecraft folder.
On Windows, go to your search/run command, type in: %appdata%
Look for a .minecraft folder, go into it, look for a saves folder. Rename the world2 to world 3.
On Mac, go to ~/library/application support/minecraft
go into it, look for a saves folder. Rename the world2 to world 3.
On *nix, go to your /home/username/.minecraft folder
go into it, look for a saves folder. Rename the world2 to world 3.

Simply renaming your current windows account will not do. It will not rename your user's profile folder, which is where the problem is.

By putting localhost there, you're telling minecraft to only listen to yourself connecting.

Make sure to use a password that has no special characters in it, only letters and numbers.

The saves folder on the mac is located, starting at your home folder,
~/library/application support/minecraft/saves

You'll want to read up on redstone circuits here: http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Redstone_circuits
