That was actually happening to me as well. Try switching your view distance down one from what it currently is. Like if you're playing at Normal, switch to Small, etc. It makes it a little more annoying to play, but it's better than the game crashing every ten minutes.
I'm currently using the real version, thanks to the 2-for-1 deal that came around when Notch got married. Before that I was using a cracked version, simply because it was better than not playing the game.
My friend, however, is using a cracked version. His parents won't let him use their credit card/paypal account to actually buy the game. Once he actually bothers to get one for himself, he'll probably pay for it. He's too addicted not to.

TECHNICALLY he accelerates at 9.812 blocks per second [Down], provided Notch did the physics properly (ignoring air resistance) and Minecraft's gravity is the same as Earth's. And apparently he will never reach terminal velocity, so how fast his final speed will be all depends on how high you're jumping from.
So, I actually went ahead and used this seed. And guess what: I took pictures! Here they are in some spoilers, with descriptions and coordinates, so you have some kind of incentive to use the seed. xD If there's anything in my screenshots that isn't in your game, it's from a mod. I use the Yogbox, so I have a bunch of them. The texture pack comes default with said collection of mods. =)
My spawn point. I turned around in order to snap this picture, so you might be facing a tiny hill of sand and dirt. Found that pretty uninteresting. The coordinates, from top to bottom, are as follows: -78 | +28 | 64
Next up comes a tiny little pumpkin patch. It only contained three pumpkins when I got there, and it was in a hidden little depression. Pumpkins are supposedly rare, though I find them much more often than diamonds, so I figured it warranted a screenshot. Coordinates: -31 | +90 | 71
Now for some near-surface iron. You just have to jump down into a little cave, and there's some staring you right in the face. It's not a large vein, but it's definitely enough for a pickaxe or two. The picture didn't turn out, but I'm happy to provide coordinates. -1 | +136 | 55
Not sure if errors continue across seeds, but I found it pretty amusing that I was able to stand in midair looking down at all the various caves and stuff. Not to mention the tons of lava lakes. Oo Be careful digging for diamond on this map; it might end up being pretty deadly. +201 | -177 | 64. If the error doesn't carry over, the spot's still pretty cool.
Overhangs. They're not really rare, but some of them are actually quite pretty. This one, not far from the standing-on-it error that I mentioned before, came equipped with two waterfalls. And a couple trees, but I chopped those down to get a better view. +301 | -177 | 69
