I am really tempted to try this again with the Regrowth pack, combining building a city with recreating a viable world. I feel like it would flow fairly well overall.

So right now, the only real rule change I have planned is more one just to make the world look better. Once I get to iron (Need it for dirt), I will not be allowed to add new buildings until I have enough dirt to serve as a place to build on top of. Since I can grow dirt once things get going, this isn't a big downside, just means I can spread out grass to just make the barren world a little nicer.

Speaking of barren... This is my starting point. Usual for Regrowth, but yeah...

But at this point, I am sitting at A nice little house with enough supplies to go to the next stage...And digging for cobble in this blasted map with no cobblestone tools. Whee

Oh man, I haven't looked in this in ages. I should do one again...Not on a Skyblock, though. Definitely not a Skyblock again.

I haven't decided if this is normal or sheer dumb luck, but any world that has nearby the 4 main trees, 2 villages, all 5 animal types, and an open air dungeon is awesome in my book.

Yes, I do have all of that in my Vita world I am doing the challenge in. I wish I had a way to see if this was common.

hmm, i think ill try it... and for an added twist, maybe ill build my city at the bottom of the ocean(cause i just love ocean bases)

Twists to the challenge are always fun, just as long as you don't get bored doing it. I figured my skyblock-style one probably would have gone better if I were doing it with someone to share some of the boring parts (That beginning was just...Ugh.) but it was overall an interesting way of doing it.

Certainly took the "The gods have abandoned us" part seriously. 9 pieces of dirt and a tree? The gods were mocking me.

In other news, I got Minecraft on my Vita, which therefore means a City challenge there, because it's just fun to do. Unfortunately it does make it hard to get pictures.

Alright, so I finished the Agrarian Skies Map (mostly. Everything left was tedious sitting around), so I decided it was time to pick out a new modpack and get started on this again.

I ended up choosing the Horizon's modpack (with a few things turned off), mostly because it had most of what I wanted in terms of mods, plus it took out Forestry, so I wouldn't find myself distracted by the bees and trying to get specific styles of wood again. I don't know why I keep doing that.

Anyways, I'll start adding pictures once I get to the end of the wood age.

    So...Bit of a fun issue.

So I've been working my way along the skyblock challenges, even worked on a new building (Needed a place for bee-related things), but I've hit a problem...I can't get my world to load. So while I wait to see if I can get things fixed, I figured I'd start on a less skyblocky version of this challenge, using the mentioned Direwolf20 pack. Once I get things underway I'll start tossing out pictures of that, and if/when I get the Skyblock map back up, will finish off my bee-work/building and show that off, too.

Or maybe the Yogcast Complete Pack. I dunno. I mostly just want Thaumcraft for the Paving Stones of Travel for roads.

I have been doing other things between builds, mostly the challenges that come with the skyblock map (and there are a lot). I'll have to see how I feel after letting things sit for a bit, though. I may try to finish it when I get closer to finishing the actual skyblock map, otherwise I'll just start again with a new mod that has actual land.

Also, it keeps crashing when I try to load it. >.<

It's a shame to see that you won't be progressing any further with your challenge fusion, I'm impressed by the patience you had with it though! I think one of the dangers of my challenge is that it can be a bit intensive on the blocks side of things and as a result you end up doing a lot of materials gathering and it ends up that you can't see the forest for the trees. I've considered what could be done to break the monotony a bit and thought that perhaps some side objectives encouraging variety could help - what those would be though, I'm not sure.

My main issue was the fact that the town really didn't have much character. I suppose I could go around adding the kills and things to make everything less flat, but it's just adding more tedious work into what I have already done. As it stands, I plan on building at least some semblance of housing if I need any new buildings (I shouldn't, but who knows) so I won't completely abandon the challenge, but I can't see myself, say...Building a giant area for the castle I technically need to do.

Any that includes tinkerers construct! The tool progression goes so well with this challenge, I'm personally using a Direwolf20 pack from 1.6.4. You can see my previous posts in this thread for videos if your interested. (And I love magic) Stay away from 'tech' till later on (I use basic redstone only during the iron age) to stay true to the challenge. I'm starting the gold age soon and will be making machines and farms in earnest now (instead of my tree orchard and fields of wheat, etc).

    Happy building!

I'll have to keep this in mind when I pick a modpack to pick up the challenge again. I hadn't decided on one yet, but this one has the one part I really wanted (Namely, Thaumcraft for Paving Stones of Travel for roads)

I hate to say this, but I'm going to have to stop my crazy skyblock city challenge. The sheer amount of work going into just building safe land for buildings just got to be too much.

My plan is to finish the skyblock map, then find a good modpack and restart it there with an actual landmass to work with. I'm not sure what modpack it'll be, or when it will happen, but I just can't build a decent city when I need to build all the land as well.

Stone Age is by far the most difficult, once you get to Iron tools and can make the area of effect tools from Tinkerer's Construct (Lumber Axe, Hammer, Excavator) it gets WAAAAAY easier to gather resources.

    Keep at it!!!

Going to point out this is true regardless on the mods. There just comes a point where things get much, much easier. Right now, I'm there material-wise since I now have the power to keep everything running constantly.

Though part of me wants to do this challenge in a non-skyblock modpack once I finish things with the modpack...It'll be an interesting change. More work for the materials, but a *lot* more room to work with, since I don't have to build all my land by hand. More character to it, I think.

Though I just realized I need to set up land for a castle...Oh boy.

Honestly, my life gets...Somewhat easier now that I can (and did) make the computer. So much easier having all my storage stuff in one place.

That reminds me, I took a picture to show what my eventual play was for the Church. I've barely gotten started since glowstone is both scarce and in demand, but I made enough to give a small idea of what I was doing.

So I've finally (more or less) finished with the buildings I needed to get to the next era, and let me tell you, I *never* want to work with nether quartz again.

    Anyways, some pictures.

The library/where I will be working on Thaumcraft whenever I get started. I may have to change the back area so that everything can fit properly. Also, no doors, because there are blue doors and I want those for this building. Also missing a lot of books, because I didn't have hte time to sit around breeding cows for it.

Updated Town hall with the extra rooms. Kinda empty right now, though.

And the church, monstrosity as it is. The plan is to add what amounts to red glowstone lights in the gaps along the walls, but that required technology I just don't have right now.

And inside the church. Again, not 100% complete because of how I want to do it, but it's a start, and satisfies the requirement, at least to me.

A nether church, such irony! That aside, I'm interested to know how those blocks look in your build!

To be fair, the church does house my Blood Altar from the mod, so it's actually pretty fitting. I'm about a third of the way done with the roof, though the walls have holes in them I can't actually fill yet because the block I want to use I can't make yet, since it requires more technology than I am comfortable using at this point.

I have a lot of technically complete buildings that I want something I don't have access to yet, but considering it's a matter of not being able to do what I want, I'll probably continue once I finish the church.

Small update. Assuming my math isn't bad, I need just over 9 more stacks of Quartz Blocks to finish the roof for my church.

I'm going to just say I'm not dead, nor have I stopped trying...

I just stupidly decided that Chiseled Nether Quartz was a good idea for building my church out of, and am regretting it immensely, even when I can get nether quartz without going to the Nether.
