@Ryleh: Yeah, i guess. Oh well, it was just an idea.
@VampArcher: The idea wasn't to eliminate death, i just thought their should be some things you work really hard at that you don't eventually lose. I know about the /gamerule thing.
This idea is inspired by my own experience. So, I die a lot in Minecraft, some people might say i'm not that great at it. but the most indescribably annoying thing in Minecraft is getting some great, awesome diamond stuff, and then dying in some horribly stupid way!
Has that happened to anybody else? Surely it can't just be inevitable, if we make a powerful sword and awesome armor and find enchanting books and everything, it can't just eventually be lost do to some idiotic mistake or derp moment. What we need is some way to save a few, hard to get items so you don't always lose them.
So you would craft a chest using some super rare, non-renewable boss item that has about three or so slots. When you try to put something in it, it will copy the item into the slot and you can't take the copy out until the original is despawned from the world or destroyed.
So it holds three items at a time, and you never lose your best items because five creepers decided to ninja you as you walked out the door.
I thought of a character that's a pokemon poacher escaping the law and hiding out in Toro, but would this character be considered a Villain, meaning i would have to complete such an app, and are we aloud for our first characters to be villains?
Secondly, it would appear you use the Pixelmons mod, does this mean i'll need to install it too to play?
EDIT: DRAT! I MISSPELLED MY TITLE! It should read 'Opinions needed'!
So, I want to start a Role-play server, and I have a lot of ideas. But the last thing I want is to go to all of the work and expense to pay for service and design plugins for a server no-one gets on and it just dissolves with no real success.
So I decided to explain my server ideas to you, forum people whom I would advertise to, to see if you would want to play on this server.
So to Begin: The Concept
This server would center around the theme of time and player impact on history. The first iteration’s setting would be a Conan the Barbarian-esque fantasy stone age, the next server would be a fantasy bronze age reminisce of ancient civilization, and so on. Player impact would be key and focused on; Countries founded in one server would (provided it’s still active) carry over to the next server (provided WE’RE still active) as
ancient nations founded long ago. People from this country would become a sub-race, and them if we all last until yet a third server, its own race.
So time is a big issue; every new chapter, a new server with new characters, takes place thousands of years after the last.
So our first server is in the stone-age, there should be starting out two countries, opposed to one and other to create tension and keep things from being boring. Player can found villages as part of these countries, but no new countries until there are enough players.
The two we do start with should be morally neutral; if one side believes they are evil they might eventually let themselves lose, psychologically believing that they need to be defeated; this can’t happen because then there will be no conflict.
Other races will ‘evolve’ if we let our players create races through countries, so I thought of four base races; Humans (of course), Uroks (Orc/ogre like rock people), Naga (Water dwelling creatures), and Ents (Tree people, if you didn’t know them already).
Now on to more technical matters: Plugins
Bukkit seems like it’s the most effective system out there for modding servers, they let’s use that. We’ll need three major plugins: one Race bonuses, one for Global and local Chat (that one’s easy to find) and one for Classes. I personally don’t want to use a plugin that forces players to not have an item not belonging to their class (like most Heroes servers). While the plugin should make it hard for, say, a swordsmen to cut wood, or a baker smelt iron, the ones that just take the axes and iron things away are REALLY annoying and break the immersion.
I think the plugin used should just nerf the players attempt at doing something outside their class. Swordsmen who try to cut a tree down with an iron axe would find it takes as long as it would with their fists, and iron wouldn’t smelt (or just smelt slowly) if a non-blacksmith put it in.
The biggest problem I foresee with plugins is I have a lot of ideas for personalized plugins but no experience with Java. So there’s that.
Finally, the last thing I’ve put a lot of thought into are the rules:
For a simple list, here’s what I would want for the server, though this is not all the rules the finished server would have;
1. No Cussing (Use replacement cuss-words IC; like ‘Frak’ or just do @#$%)
2. No Griefing
3. No meta-gaming (role-playing with knowledge you learned OOC)
4. No Power-gaming (Role-playing to just ‘Win’, say, mining with take any breaks for a year just so you can have and endless supply of diamonds.)
5. No Explicit chatting or role-play. Punishment for this is perma-ban
6. Always stay in character, use (( )) or Global chat to chat OOC.
Punishment for those who break all rules but 5 accidentally, or maybe they didn't know about them, or just didn't do it in an exceedingly harmful way, is three warnings and then a temporary ban, then three more warnings and then a permanent ban. Warnings are skipped if the person breaking the rules do it in spite of (or TO spite) them, like if they know consciously know about them but do it anyway.
One last thing I think I should mention; while I have experience role-playing, this will be my first server to run. Actually, the main reason I wanted to start my own is because I can never find one I want to join anymore.
THERE! I’m done!
Please leave what you think about these ideas and if you think this sounds good, I need to know if I’m going to have much hope of success before I spend all the huge amounts of time and money on this.
I can't access the settings for mob spawn rates. I'm using the 1.7 version and made sure the problem was with this mod by removing all others; it is. When I enter the 'mod settings' menu it shows, in red letters:
test 1
TEST 2
DISABLED
Instead of getting the screen where i can change spawn rates, as i expected. Is this because of 1.7 being a dev version, or is this a glitch on my end?
I'm looking for a good mod that adds Copper and possibly Bronze that works with the latest minecraft. I looked on google and all over the forums but didn't find one, so i decided i needed to ask if anyone can point me towards a good mod.

I got accepted on this server before, and left for awhile. Now i'd like to come back, but lost the IP.
Here's a link to my app: Can i have the IP again?

ARGH...
I really appreciate you feedback, crazyminer! The chat system is used on all the RP server i've played on, so i know it works.
